You know I just randomly decided to watch some youtube clips of D'Angelo, just reminds me of how utterly brilliant his character his, not many ever mention him, but for me, he's one of the most smartly characters in the show, such a tragic character.
That smiley didn't really help, I've never seen The Shield, are you saying it's better than The Wire or garbage in comparison?
Ones considered the greatest of all-time, ones pretty good but will never be on the same level(<----- The Shield).

I prefer The Shield to The Wire, it doesn't mean that I didn't like the latter.I put it up there among the best ever TV shows I've watched.The difference is down to a matter of personal taste just like I place The Sopranos above The Shield.

I'm no god, but I rate the Sopranos and the Wire devant everything else, as do many other things, but certainly there is nothing wrong with you choosing one or the other based on personal preference. Just enjoy

The Wire does get the praise the Sopranos gets, its just a different kind of praise and it just happened to start coming like right at the tail end of its run, and then exploded after it finished. If they put on a sixth season on now, it'd probably do Sopranos-esque numbers, well maybe not THAT good, but definitely much better than it did in it's run.

Sopranos is twice as good but I enjoyed the wire too.
I'm struggling to get into season 2, I watched the first series a few months ago and quite enjoyed it so I'm trying to give it a chance. I've read so many good reviews and had such a number of recommendations that they must be right.
Season 2 becomes great keep going and it will just happen.
I felt like that for the first 2-3 eps of it. But having watched the enitre series i have to say, season 2 was arguably my favourite. Frank Sobotka was imo up there with the best.

I loved Season 2, the whole docks thing was a nice contrast to the first season.
Sopranos is 1% better, but this is a mindblowing show.
Loved The Wire. Just started recording The Sporanos on Sky Atlantic - missed it first time around so looking forward to watching it. Of course there are plenty of top reviews for it and recommendations just hope I like it.
Btw is anyone watching Boardwalk Empire. A slow burner for a first episode but I'm starting to get into it. Looking forward to Saturday's episode.

The Wire was indeed fantastic, and I had the same issues as evra did during the second season. It wasnt until about two thirds of the way into it I started to really enjoy it, and then was only able to really appreciate it in hindsight after I'd finished it. I think a reason is the first season we saw the entire unit form a bond of sorts, and then the second season they were all spread around and there wasnt the comaraderie any more
I've seen the whole season quite recently, it's like a twelve hour long Scorsese picture.

I love Deadwood, Rome, Carnivale, Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Twin Peaks..but this is on another level.

I was watching a couple of youtube videos the other day, top 50 characters and the top 100 quotes. For anyone who has completed the show, check these out, its a great reminder of how great this show was.

One of my favorite scenes is when Bunk is going over a murder scene again in an empty apartment. There's no dialogue, just him bending over looking at things and the like and murmuring swears to himself. Pure class.

Who else were extremely disappointed with the changes of the themes? I only thought 2 versions of the song were good. The one in season 5 is one of the worst theme's I've heard. It just made me mad.
No doubt... The first two were class. The R&B groove to the vocals in the fourth was atrocious, and the fifth was annoying and monotonous.
The third was meh.
I actually quite liked the different versions of the song, thought it was a nice touch. I really want to watch this again now.
I really liked season 4's version (probably my favourite with season 1) and season 5 wasn't that bad imo. The only shit one was season 3. But it's each to their own I guess.
