Television The Walking Dead

I like the show but sometimes I find it too slow.Personally I prefer Fear the walking dead
I think the show has reached a point where people see it for the closeness and affection that has to their characters. Something like the last seasons of Lost.

Terribly written show, full of moronic characters repeatedly doing retarded things when not giving cringeworthy little speeches to each other.

It's never going to improve is it??

The cringy poorly-acted speeches can stop.

The dedication of screen-time for periphery characters (such as the nurse) can also stop.

Jeez far to much whinging in this thread. I enjoyed it. After the frantic episodes of them taking the quarry herd and the attack by the wolves, this is them dealing with the aftermath and showing them all that Rick was right. We the viewer like Rick and his crew are experienced in this but the folk of Alexandria this is a whole new experience, one that was coming and they need to adjust and survive, as what they have there is worth saving. I'm enjoying this season a lot so far.

I was really disappointed in fear the walking dead. I wanted to see the world go to hell as that would have been when the chaos was at it's greatest, worldwide ,but instead they gave us a few interesting social ideas then quickly returned to form of survivors in one location sealed off dealing with inner power struggles, as opposed to seeing all the munching going on and the collapse of various civilised services. By the 6th episode it may as well have been up to the point of the current series as it was the same, abandoned streets no one around etc.

Pretty typical season arc so far expect some filler until the midseason finale. Been good so far though, first few episodes were up there with some of the best imo.

Agreed with that. I dont mind the one or two slower episodes as long as the one that follows is action.
Action, slow, action, slow, action (midseason break) etc, isnt the worst thing. As long as the slow ones are pretty logical (I wouldnt even mind if the slow ones were centered around one character or showing a different perspective from the same time).

Yes, all these shows are missing the big picture, be a little more informative . See what happen to the governing bodies and as everything falls apart. To see what happens to presidents of countries and as the armies react , something like different scenes in different locations. For fear the walking dead
What happened in the world while they were protected by the army in the neighborhood. However in this show I like the characters, the thing that they don´t know what is happening. But I did not understand very well that the streets are empty in los Ángeles just days after the general collapse

They actually jumped ahead a few months in the timeline after the chaos started. So the 'emptying' of the streets took place in that time period.

Thank @Nik70 , I had no idea, I thought that had been a shorter time
Now looking forward to see what happens in the yatch

Third episode in row now I've found myself dozing off whilst watching then fast forwarding. It's an absolute chore to get through.

Yeah i keep watching because the show has got everything it needs to be really entertaining, except good writing.

Honestly feels like it's been written by a bunch of 12 year olds.

Yeah I dont like the argument of "why are you still watching". Its because there was a draw to the show, youve invested time and you have the hope for it to either get better or have a great ending. The hope (kinda like being a sports fan). I felt that way with Lost. And feel that way with TWD.

Edit: Also it hasnt really been mentioned, but Maggies baby (well shes preggers now, which makes sense why Glenn wanted her to stay behind and she agreed, and why she turned back with Aaron) - that will be the second baby right? The two saviours of the world, baby Glenn and Judith.

Well that is a decent argument but personally I wouldn't waste my time on a show that I thought was poor.

I'm in Dexter territory with the show. Yes,it's annoying 90% of the time but I've been watching it this long so I want to see a payoff. Preferably in the form of everyone getting their face chewed off, except Carol, Morgan and Maggie.

Its the hope spots. Every few episodes they are awesome, or have awesome moments which makes you want to see what happens next. Just the way it is. I dont think its terrible, but I do think its got some really stupid moments and could be better.

I really enjoyed it. The world falls apart your world shrinks and this is the format TWD and FTWD has chosen. You won't see wider context stuff.

Worst episode so far, typical walking dead some very good episodes followed by mediocrity, and you get the feeling Glenn is still alive which would be horse sh*t.

It was a bit slow after the great start to this series.

Not excusing the episode (as it was terrible) but that was always going to happen. I reckon they'll slow it down until the usual mid season brreak then there will be a massive cliff hanger for a few months and we will all forget how sshit these episodes were!

Not much to say about this weeks episode, it was terrible. I reckon it was possibly one of the worst I've ever seen.

I feel like this show would actually be pretty good if it was 8-10 episodes a season. Unfortunately we get god-awful filler episodes like this in the middle of every fecking season.

I've enjoyed this season a lot but if ever there was an episode to a show you could skip and miss absolutely nothing, this was it.

I mean of course there will be slower episodes and fillers here and there, but this had literally nothing. How did they justify budgeting for that episode? It was completely unnecessary!

The only thing I even remember from it is that Carrrrrul is back to being and absolute cnut again. Only this time he has unspeakably shit hair.

I agree with this completely. I think that helped season 1 where it was only like 6 episodes and pretty much transitioning well. 10 episodes for one setting would be great (that has helped GOT, Spartacus and other shows)

WHy have they just decided Glenn is dead. I mean we've seen him surrounded by loads of walkers and he really should be dead. This "he'd have let us know by now if he was alive" shite annoys me. Like Rick was only back a day wasn't he? SO they're only missing a day or two? Or am I wrong?

If they were alive and they had got back to Alexandria and had seen the place surrounded by the herd of walkers, they would surely be thinking of a way to get the walkers away from the walls. But they didn't have vehicles, so it would take time to plan that. There are any number of scenarios that could happen if he was alive that would stop him from getting back there yet. But because we're supposed to believe he's dead, they make a big deal about Maggie "knowing" he's dead.

To top it all off, I have a feeling we're going to see Glenn alive and well next week.

Yeah I like how they arent mentioning the guy with Glenn either. What about wondering if hes alive.

Then they are like "were doing this for Glenn.... oh and the others out there who could be alive, but are sure are alive, even tho we havent heard from them either but they werent in a situation that were not supposed to know about, like daryl, michonne, etc"

haha

was thinking about the frustrations but this show is going to be slow - is there another choice?

it's the nature of a show featuring small pockets of people living in isolation

the only real storylines are going to involve;

  • power struggles within their community/issue over resources
  • threats/issues arising with different groups of people

the only other option would be to turn this into a soap opera with Rick's love life a major focus and we don't want that surely

Basically what Cina said, The Walking Dead would benefit from a 10-episode season, not fecking 15 or 16.

The symbolism of Gwen wiping Glenn's name off the wall makes me believe that he's still alive.
