Not sticking your nose in at all!

She requested two new inhalers from them the other day so surely they must know. I've asked her to call them but she doesn't want to block the line when it specifically says on the message that people should not call to ask when they'll get their vaccine.

If she’s getting breathless every time she walks then she should get a review of her inhalers, instead of just asking for new ones. If she’s not on a steroid inhaler (brown one) she might need to be. Getting that review could also bump her up the vaccine queue. That way you’re not contacting them about the vaccine, you’re asking about her asthma.

She keeps forgetting to take the brown one but carries the blue one on walks. I'd say every time we go for a walk she uses it once and then she's fine.

We're not sure if it's just down to us not having our regular commutes, exercise, etc..

Ohhhhh I see, tell her to take her brown one ffs

My drs are good at the reviews and keeping tabs on medication tbf but I’ve not had to use my blue inhaler for about 5 years. That’s not to say that’s achievable for everyone but once every walk is a bit much, reminds me of me when I used to not take my preventers regularly!

Sounds more likely to be down to what you say in that first sentence ;) Steroid inhalers take a while to work and need to be taken exactly as prescribed.

Best of luck anyway. @Wolverine posted the uk guidance on how bad asthma needs to be to get an early vaccines. I think regular use of a steroid inhaler should qualify her.

The European Commission will call for tougher controls on Covid vaccine exports after it accused the UK-Swedish firm AstraZeneca of failing to honour its contract to supply EU countries.

The proposals, to go before European Union leaders tomorrow, stop short of a ban but could inflame tensions with the UK.

Under the plans, any shipment of vaccine would be assessed on the country's rate of vaccinations and vaccine exports.

Meanwhile, millions of AstraZeneca doses have reportedly been found in Italy.

La Stampa website says some 29 million vaccine doses due to be shipped to the UK were being stored at the Catalent plant in Anagni near Rome but were discovered by Italian inspectors as part of an investigation by the European Commission.

When asked by the BBC about the report, the foreign ministry in Rome and the Italian prime minister's office refused to comment.

The plant has a contract with AstraZeneca to "fill and finish" its vaccines and is set to do the same for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, also approved for use in the EU.

The reported discovery comes weeks after the Italian government blocked the export of 250,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to Australia, as part of new EU regulations allowing a shipment to be stopped if a company is seen as failing to meet its obligations to the 27 member states.

Doesn't sound good? I'm 33 and no underlying conditions but a couple of weeks ago was expecting/hoping for my jab in May given the current rates but each day it seems further way, unless I'm just being glass half empty.

Has she had any recent trials with Liverpool?

According to Reuters, the 29m doses found in Italy were bound for Belgium.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...nd-for-belgium-italian-official-idUSKBN2BG1XT

29m doses is almost double of what AZ has delivered to EU already (of the 120m doses initially promised up to and incl this month.)
I wonder how such a large shipment can just disappear of the radar in times such as these.

It didn’t disappear off the radar though. Seems it was en route to Belgium when the Italian authorities intercepted it, for reasons best known to themselves.

Do you really believe 30m of 120m were meant for a population of 11m?

Every comparison requires statistical significance. Otherwise you can’t rule out that the findings are down to chance. Toss a coin three times and get three heads. It’s a fact that the coin has landed on heads 100% of the the throws so far. But you can’t claim it will have 100% chance of landing on heads every time you throw it. That’s why statistical significance matters.

These studies were all powered to demonstrate efficacy in terms of preventing covid. As soon as they had enough cases to reach statistical significance for that endpoint they were analysed and submitted to the regulators. But they didn’t have a high enough number of severe cases to make statistically significant claims about hospitalisations/deaths etc as the numbers were too low.

As I said, the trends are all in the right directions so it’s all encouraging stuff. Plus the real life evidence in Israel (and in the UK) look great. I just take issue with claiming 100% efficacy in an endpoint that didn’t reach statistical significance.

Agreed.

Having said that its the same for all the vaccines, so numbers higher when you add them all up.

But as you said the real life evidence is more compelling.

They were in Italy to be filled before going back to Belgium for distribution. 13m to COVAX countries and the remaining to be distributed across the EU in April. So basically the Italians have raided a vaccine filling factory and discovered it contained...vaccines!

Source?

That video from Vox is so informative. I feel much more confident going forward when its my turn.

Jesus that was the most incredible experience, got a text at 07:30 inviting me to come in, booked an appointment for 09:30, arrived at 09:15 and was jabbed by 09:17

Imagine a world where the rest of the NHS operated like this. One can dream.

a dream indeed, I’m guessing the main issue is £££

that being said I wouldn’t be adverse to my drs surgery keeping appointments for some things over the phone post pandemic, getting an appointment atm is so much easier than before

Well it’s a statement from AZ. I didn’t realise the company actually producing the vaccines weren’t a valid source.
Yeah, you're right. My loathing of the telegraph got the better of me there.

I saw that graph the other day. Very impressive. Although the “partially vaccinated” numbers would be a worry in the UK where there is a very long gap between doses.

So according to Italian media they were destined for Belgium, with 13m then going to Covax and the rest to be shipped to the UK. AZ 'lost' them when the export controls came in at the start of February and have been hiding them there ever since.

Still all begs the question (even if Astrazeneca claims are true, and those truly are for covax and EU) why twice as many doses as delivered are in a single warehouse "Waiting to be shipped and distributed". It's not like there's any urgency.

They were obviously not for the EU, whatever AZ say. They're earmarked for export and when the export controls came in they've decided to put them to one side until it's resolved - according to the press and various ministers anyway.

It was a tip off from the EU followed by a police investigation that found them, not anything from AZ themselves. They were happily keeping the stockpile quiet.

The EU now realises it has been naive. Having exported 40m doses and gotten 0 from any other country outside the bloc, the change of policy is necessary. 450 million people to vaccinate and it needs to start happening.

I seriously doubt the U.K. were about to receive 16m AZ doses - we only have 21m left to vaccinate after mid April - but if we were AZ have now declared these are going to EU countries. If they were contractually obliged to give them to the U.K. I think we’d probably have something to say about them being taken - at the very least we’d use them to bargain to ensure no Pfizer gets blocked.
