spastic

what a match...

Djokovic is 2-0 up, third set tie-break, 5-3 for Monaco. And what happens? Monaco drops a ball out of his pocket and, since it happened twice during the match, he loses the point. It's 5-4. Djokovic wins both points on his serve and has a match point. Monaco saves it and wins the set. Now they're playing fourth set...

edit: and I'm working tomorrow morning

I've turned on to see Nadal and ferrer, was expecting it to be about now, but ay am watching Blake lose on replay, what's the score?

filling time before the night session starts. It happened here too. They have to empty the stadium of all the day session ticket holders so the night session ticket holders can get in. Even if you have both, you have to go out to come in. Djokovic`s match ran long, finishing at about the time the night session usually starts so they`re behind schedule. Nadal could be playing until midnight, a huge disadvantage for him now we`re at the business end of the tournament.

What's the normal practice on last set tie-breaks in Grand Slams? Is it the US (which has them) or Wimbledon (which doesn't) that's the odd one out?

US Open is the only slam to have a 5th set tiebreak. I`m against it personally.

Sky Sports Xtra are showing the Williams/Henin match, not Nadal/Ferrer.

I hate the Williams sisters. C'mon Ms. Henin!

And the fifth set tie break sucks. It's the whole US philosophy on sports, though, isn't it.

No they're all on Arthur Ashe so it'll be played after this match I'd have thought

I've never been that keen on womens tennis because of the amount of sets they play in majors. A match can be just starting to warm up and it's over. Absolutely no reason why they can't play longer

Looks like a long night, I want to watch that Nadal match, hoping someone will perform a straight setter in this current game. Henin has already broken so this is potentially good news

I agree with you, Brad. I'm quite happy with women receiving the same amount of prize money as men, but I think they should be made to play an equal number of sets, too.

The three sets rule was introduced when women started playing, because they tended to be more amateurs than the men's tennis, but now that isn't the case. The women are just as capable atheletes as the men, and so could quite easily cope with playing five sets -- especially as it's for only four tournaments a year (I think the men only play five sets in Grand Slams, too).

Women's matches are over too quickly, so they never get good. If men only played three sets their matches would suck most of the time, too.

On a side note I hate partisan crowds, and no one does partisan quite like the yanks.

Every time they go crazy over a Williams shot I want to scream at them. I really want Henin to win this match -- I loved watching Blake go out.

At least theirs don't sound like a bunch of queer toffs like ours do for 'our Tim'. We have to endure that one more time before he retires too

This pissing first set is going the distance, I have an early appointment at the bank tomorrow, I'm gunna be screwed

I`ve sent a pm to Desert, Count and Brad. I have to go out for about a couple of hours now though, and will do send more when I come back.

Henin already beat Serena.

I think Venus,Kuznetsova and Chakvetadze will join her in the semis.

For the mens I think Roddick, Haas, Ferrer and Djokovic will make the semis.

I got the first two sets of the Nadal match in, he looked fairly comfortable first set, an early break in the second, but then Ferrer just went all Federer on him! If he kept up that 2nd set form for the match, he's a danger for this tournament for sure

Semis will be Federer vs Haas, Djokovic vs Ferrer

Womens Henin vs Williams, Kuznetsova vs Chakvetadze

I don't know which way round Ferrer and Djokovic are, but I think that they'll both win.

Shaha Peer is consistently good isn't she? I think she always seems to be in the latter stages of most slams. Heard she serves in the Israeli army as well. Israeli chicks are well hard as anyone who has seen Weeds will know.

Another interesting point is the number of spanish and argies in the latter rounds. They used to be known as clay court specialists but now it seems the likes of Nadal, Moya, Chela, Ferrer, Ferrero and Nalbandian can play on any surface and do well.
