The US Open Tennis Thread

And Tim Henman's Grand Slam career has come to an end, defeated by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets, 7-6 2-6 7-5 6-4.

:(

He was granted an on court interview after the game, in which he thanked the crowd for their support over the past years, reminiscing particualrly on his best run to the Semi Finals in 2004 most likely.

It was a battling performance with soem vintage Henman on display, but Tsonga's serve and shots simply proved too much to break in the last two sets.

Farewell Tim, only one more chapter to write now. But in doing so hopefully leaving a further legacy for British tennis, helping to get us abck into the World Group.

Just checking on this at half time, a set all, but Maria down a break in the third

Sharapova is fast going down the route of Kournikova. She seems to have taken too much liking to American spotlight. Needs to regain some focus.

Well she can't really go down that route because she's actually won titles. It's not really about focus, just needs to stay injury-free.

It is about focus for Sharapova although she isn't obviously a Kournikova. She is much more determined but you can see the decrease in her work rate and tenacity as compared to when she started out

Couple of years back back it looked like she could go on to be the main dominating player in women tennis. Instead she got distracted and now needs to work back her way up. Hopefully after another couple of disappointing performance, she will start working hard again.
If not then it would be a waste of talent just like Kournikova who looked a great player in making as a 16/17 year old.

Kournikova looked an amazing talent, but then she lost all her drive.

To be fair to her, though, her main strength was never in singles. She won a lot of doubles titles.

Most of her doubles titles were with Hingis who was the undisputed world number 1 at that point. I do think Kournikova was a lot more talented than people give her credit for.

Anybody watching Nadal?
Tsonga has been pretty good. He's a set down, though. 3-2 for Nadal in the second set, no breaks

edit: he's shit now, 2-0 for Nadal (2-6 in the second)

I saw the last part. Nadal was impressing. Seems like he is improving his hardcourt play for every game he plays.

Blake vs Hass today should be a classic. Also I think feliciano lopez might suprise a few people against Federer.

Sharapova seems to have completely lost her way. Time to get a coach other than her father and start working. I'm disappointed in the women in general; too many one sided matches and not enough variety in the games.

Blake vs. Haas in the fifth set now.

Haas just won the fourth set 6-0. It`s been a good match so far.

And again, does anyone know what time Federer plays tonight? Prefer it in British or CET time.

He plays at the Artur Ashe stadium after the Chakvetadze-Paszek game which starts at 01.00am CET.

So he plays when the Chakvetadze-Paszek game ends.

Thank you Sir!

Do you know if Scandi Europsport will be showing it? Been trying to find out in their text TV but they only say they`ll be showing US Open, not which games in particular.

I've just been on the scandinavian Eurosport website and they say that they will be broadcasting live from 01.00. They'll probably show the Federer game.

Var kommer du ifrån annars?

fecking Eurosport. Showing some female game instead of Federer. Not that there`s anything wrong with girls tennis. It just isn`t the same.

The Federer game follows the match between Chakvetadze and Paszek, I believe. If anyone needs a link pm me in the next 30 mins because I'm going to bed...

Ok, I was under the impression that it started 01:00 CET. I guess I`ll have to stay up and wait then.

They must be running late or something. I think the earlier match on this court between Haas and Blake lasted about 3 hours.

Federer has just absolutely bombed the first set against Lopez, perhaps the worst I've seen from him since before his first Wimbledon... could be an epic shock. Have to think he'll improve

don`t worry, federer will improve and lopez will shit himself soon

You thought Federer had taken the foot back off the pedal, went 0-40 down in the first game of the third set. What does he do? Win 7 straight points and go on to win the set 6-1. A masterclass, Lopez looks beaten, I can safely go to bed now

EDIT Federer won in 4 sets, including a magnificent 35 consecutive points won on his own serve!

I hate Djokovic. I'd lose it if I were playing against him, where before every one of his serves he bounces the ball 12+ times.

You should rethink. Djokovic is the greatest showman in todays tennis and a very funny person off the court.

You'll get used to the 10-14 times ballbouncing after a while :)
