it's Anneke singing and smiling while wearing white. what else can you possibly ask for?
Yeah, sad news. Forgotten by many people because he was replaced by one of the GOATS in Iron Maiden, but, for me, songs like Prowler, Running Free, Iron Maiden, Killers or Wrathchild always gained a little extra something with his raspy, punky vocals. Thanks for everything, Paul. RIP.
Reign in blood is the only correct answer. Is he the guy who wrote a book based on his ridiculous top-100 metal guitarists list or something like that? It seems like someone who's controversial for the sake of being controversial. I might be wrong, though, don't know.
Anyway, different takes on Slayer don't surprise me. In my part of the world, they are an "obligatory listen" for a metalhead, even if you don't dig thrash that much. So, i have friends who don't like thrash and pick South Of Heaven as their best effort and the run from that album up to Divine Intervention as the pinnacle of their career. Some younger fans prefer God Hates Us All or Christ Illusion. Those who listen to the more extreme stuff tend to appreciate Hell Awaits. I've heard people describing Reign In Blood as a sloppy effort with songs full of unfulfilled potential. For me, it's the greatest thrash metal album of all time.
Can't come up with a top-five, it's very difficult to pick among so many great songs. But i doubt any post-1990 songs would make it on such a short list.

Has there been a top 5 Slayer songs in here? If not, go for it.
I'm reading Joel McIver's The Bloody Reign of Slayer, and finding some of his critiques of songs (and albums) a bit weird. Just curious what songs people particularly love from the band.

Aye, I was kind of late to Kreator (Late being about 15 years ago). I'm going to see them, Anthrax and Testament in Dublin in November. €80 for the ticket, that's value for money, people will pay many multiples of that just to see fecking oasis.
Probably getting drunk right now, are you?
I hope you had a good meal so you can have energy to mosh the whole concert.
Kreator + Testament + Anthrax are the bands I have more fun with. Always full of energy, running and moshing like a maniac, so much fun.
They come to Chile all the time because we give them the best Mosh pits of the world in return, so all I ask of you is to give your all, all your energy. The more energy the crowd gives, the more energy the band will put out, a beautiful magic loop of metal energy.
Have fun and let us now your experience when you go back home!!!
I wish, gone are the days when I can the afford the luxury of the time to fully enjoy the day out.
Just finished work, should have taken a half day, started early, but some cnut decided something needed to be changed and done again. Now, I need to get food into the children and make sure all that shit is done before I go.
I will probably enjoy it though, as long as it's not full of idiots with stupid phones in the way.
How's your neck the day after?
Yep, absolutely fantastic album. They've never released a bad album which is incredible really.Opeth are back. Growls are back.
Good shit.
Been listening to Ayreon at work today, they're incredible.
It's a shame so low % of the world has heard them.... Maybe i should say him instead of them, Arjen Lucassen is a genious.
The talent on 01011001 is ridiculous. Hansi, Floor Jansen, Bob Catley, Steve Lee, Daniel Gildenlow, Jorn, Tom Englund…I’m just going off the top of my head and I’m sure I’ve missed someone huge.it's funny because I feel albums such as 01011001 and Human Equation should be sooooo popular among prog fans. much more than some usual shouts. perhaps a bit over the top at times, but in good way. Hansi's dramatic vocals in particular fit so well there.

It's crazy how much pull he has. Everyone in that part of music knows him and is happy to collaborate - from current players to 70s legends. While he just does his thing on his own from his garage in some small Dutch town. He does do concerts now sometimes though, but just in Tilburg I think, and then he does a short series that sells out in minutes. As a 'business concept', Ayreon must count highly among the weird-yet-successful band out there. The talent on 01011001 is ridiculous. Gonna give it a listen later but not expecting to be a huge fan. Haven't enjoyed their more prog stuff...Big fan of the MAYH/Still Life/BP trifecta.
I’ve managed to see them a few times. Mostly in Tillburg, but once in Dessel in Belgium, which is…about 45 minutes away from Tillburg! It's crazy how much pull he has. In terms of the actual music, I haven't followed him much, since I had Into the Electric Castle and was put off by the over-the-topness of it all. But my brother is a fan and I should probably give it another try. In fact, just this morning he was telling me about Lucassen's Golden Age of Music album, which he released last year under the Supersonic Revolution moniker (since it's not an Ayreon project, more like an extensive hommage to 70s rock).
I was going to ask why the hell he'd be playing in Dessel, but I see that's where Graspop takes place!I’ve managed to see them a few times. Mostly in Tillburg, but once in Dessel in Belgium, which is…about 45 minutes away from Tillburg!
I’m a huge fan of his, all the Ayreon stuff, and the Star One albums are great too. I’m very much into the bombastic metal opera style though, because I love Avantasia too.
It's like a mixture of the old and new Opeth.
Anything that gives me more Anneke is welcome.Seeing the first and the last post on the page, is it too much to ask for another Gentle Storm album? Please...

I was listening to Numbered! by Devin Townsend (technically the Devin Townsend Project) and her vocals on that are stunning.
