Music The Ultimate Metal thread.

That video is sick :D The awesomeness of the album though. Holy feck. I was blown away. Repentless, Take Control, Chasing Death and When The Stillness Comes are all fantastic imho. The rest are sweet as well, apart from maybe one or two. To me, of all the old timers, Slayer are one of the really few that never changed their awesomeness to something more shitty.

That being said. The last album from Five finger is fecking tremendous as well.

Didn't fancy Maidens last effort as much as I hoped for, but as a Motörheadbanger for life, I am really happy with "Bad Magic".
Sorry mate that's not entirely true.. Just listen to this..

That album Diabolus in musica is a crossover between linkin park and St Anger.. Even Kerry King said it was a mistake. But that said they have been my fav since back in the late 80's and they are still kicking ass. The new album is just great.

In honor of Rokkjötnar next Saturday (can't fecking wait) I'm going to count down with the side acts (Mastodon are headlining). Some might not be metal but it will be metal enough for you to like.

You guys seem to have a few nice festivals. I remember looking at the Eistnaflug line-up and really wanting to go there. I'd go to any festival hosting Solstafir, so Iceland would probably feel like paradise for me. Not easy/cheap to reach from mainland Europe though.

Never really been in to this kind of music in general. Though I heard this song the other day on the radio and downloaded it, I think it's awesome.

Are there any other bands or tunes with a similar style to this? Melodic/Chanting style and less of the screechy voice singing (I notice there's usually a deep voice singer and an annoying screechy voice singer in most of these bands).

I'm in to the deeper style like this... If that's how you'd describe it.

which kind, metal in general or black/melodic black? because it's hard to find clean vocals among bands that belong to that genre.

try these and tell how far I am from what you're searching.

Metal in general, but if that Rotting Christ song is a melodic black tune them I'm in to that. Cheers for the heads-up, I'm going ti check them out.

I certainly wouldn't describe that as melodic black metal, it's more a mixture of gothic and black metal. Vocally that song is pretty a-typical for that style of music so it's hard to recommend other bands. You might check out Varathron who were very similar to Rotting Christ in the early to mid 90's, but both bands have evolved into something very different over the decades.

well, last month was Anthrax + Maiden, and it was so fecking epic, as per usual with this monsters of rock...

here i am with my baby bro, his girlfriend and my niece.

Tomorrow night Accept! fecking pumped

and the weekend after, Avantasia.

Very jealous of that!

I'm off to see Blind Guardian next month, very excited about that since they're my favourite band. Going on my own though, so a tad nervous. I'm sure i'll be grand though!

nice one! Went to my first Blind Guardian concert on 1999 (or maybe 1998) for the nightfall world tour! and last year was the second time... over 15 years later, and i was totally blown away on how good they still are. I think right now they are at their peak at least on live performances.

Don't be nervous for going alone! metal fans are one big family and you'll be treated great. Actually I've been going alone to metal concerts since 1998 and here i am, only happy experiences. Only last year i finally convinced my brother to start joining me and we did Hammerfall, Motorhead/Judas Priest, Blind Guardian and Testament/Cannibal Corpse together. He can't have enough now, love it.

Oh man, i am very jealous now! Nightfall is probably my favourite BG album!

Thanks for the kind words, i'm sure i'll get along great when i'm there. It's just tad daunting when it's your first i suppose. I'll definitely enjoy the music so there's nothing to be worrying about really :)

Last time I went to Download I was 16. It was never really all that 'metal', at least definitely not now.

Wacken and HellFest however

Oh obviously, however maiden are there this year, and rammstein so that's probably worth it, plus I'll have a good perv on floor

Going to Wacken this year. Not too impressed with the line-up but it is always fun. Currently digesting the new Moonsorrow.

Love that festival. Traveled there two years and both were absolutely mental. Have fun man!

I've been massively disappointed by Wacken in recent times. Went there in 2005 and 2006, thought it was the greatest metal festival in the world. Went there again in 2013 and 2014 and thought it was completely over the hill. Their line ups are getting progressively worse and full of German schlager filler garbage. It's so horribly crowded and some of the facilities are just insufficient. Maybe it's general festival fatigue after 15 years of regularly doing multiple 3-4 day festivals every summer, but I really can't enjoy Wacken anymore.

Fantastic selection of grilled meat though.

Anyway, rant over.

Went to see Cult of Luna's Somewhere along the Highway anniversary show last week, what an incredible live band they are! They played about an hour of stuff from various albums and then Somewhere along the Highway from start to finish. Just beatiful. They played my two favourite songs from Salvation as well: Echoes and Waiting for You. That drop around 3:30 in Echoes remains one of the greatest moments in the history of the universe.

Since i am most likely going to this festival here in Bergen next year, i recently discovered Devin Townsend (re-discorevered i guess).
Will be added 30-40 more bands before the festival in february.
Was never into Strapping young lad, or Devin Townsend band (or what his other bands were called), i was suprised of how much i liked this new band!

This song is a masterpiece! Atleast in my ears!
So heavy and groovy!

@TheSwagginator

Blind Guardian is playing the UK gigs this week, which one are you going to? #HappyTimes

I'm going to the one on Saturday night in Nottingham. Should be a fun adventure too since i don't really know Nottingham all that well! I'm on a strictly Blind Guardian only playlist for this week to get pumped up for it too. Should be #HappyTimes indeed!!

nice! Rock City sounds like a good place for a gig.

Here you can check the setlist for previous concerts so you know what songs to add to your playlist (unless you want to surprise yourself).

My hope is that they'll play And Then There Was Silence, but I fear I'm being overly optimistic there. Mind you, I'd probably die of joy, so maybe they're just trying to save my life.

Looking forward to Gloryhammer too, caught a little bit of them at Graspop and they were great.

That's be awesome but i think that's one they save for bigger venues/festivals i suppose.

Yeah, i like Gloryhammer a lot too. I'm gonna end up being there like as soon as the doors open so i'm kinda hoping i can get myself somewhere near the front for both of them :)
