The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Shh. We’re not allowed to talk about the election.

Oh, I'll talk about it until that fat sack of shite is out of the White House. And I'll remind the fecking morons who said Biden/Harris/etc would be basically the same at every opportunity.

My initial reaction. Extraordinary really. Incredible. I mean it is how I'd imagine their conversation going behind the scenes, but not in front of the media. Obviously what Trump and Vance wanted though. Trump is a bully and has no respect for anyone he considers to be weaker than him. Probably only respects Putin and perhaps China president.
Lot of people calling for Europe to stand together for Ukraine and distance themselves from US. I'd like if that happened long time ago, lot earlier than Trump. US foreign policy hasn't been exactly appealing to rest of the world for decades.

It is and we're proud of it :)
It would have been nice for Europe to stand together against Israel too but that never happened. Selective outrage is the problem with Europe pretending to be the pillar of humanity and morals.

If only someone tried to warn people, oh wait!
But the people who voted are unwaveringly supportive and if anything even happier following this for first 30 days

There is no I told you so to be had.

It’s such a depressingly hopeless situation. The hard right / MAGA movement is winning and gaining traction every day

I know this is not a game and unfortunately he has to, but I am sad that he thanked the US. He has enough but this just gives them a bigger ego and feeling they can do anything they want

That's the part that I keep thinking about and one of the reason why Europe, Canada and few others shouldn't never under any circumstance consider or treat the US as an ally, they have extremely weak institutions and they have a population that is willing to exploit it to their advantage. It's a bad combination for everyone involved.
Yeah. The problem is that the current situation is a lot of economic and military interdependence. It will take several years, and not be smooth to disentangle. What I'd want to see next is if European (and other) leaders are ready to openly address their populations on what the costs will be, what the risks are, and also what the potential reward is. Basically, I'm looking for which country has sufficient national cohesion to pull off such a pivot, and I'm not too optimistic.

Really? I expect him to do even more horrible things. Just watch. That's all that the world will do not realizing his actions will be detrimental to the entire world. Every other nation is calmly looking and laughing at his antics but this man will bring everyone down if he's not stopped.

That's what I'm getting at. I'm genuinely worried now.

Him acting like a spoilt dumb petulant 13 year old was expected. Actually supporting Russia now and spitting on 80 years of US/EU goodwill is just mind blowing.

I've never seen this kind of talks being held in front of the press. Usually they pose for photos and talk behind closed doors.

I'm surprised there wasnt a question if USA will help Russia militarily so to finish of Ukraine.

What a fecking shitshow.

Short term he will probably succeed in both reducing US costs on Ukraine with Europe taking a larger share, and he'll obviously succeed in forcing Ukraine to accept a peace deal. He'll call that a big success, peacemaker.

Long term, it's fairly obvious that Europe has to move away from the idea that the US are allies that can be relied on, and i can only imagine that the outcome of this will be that relationship with the US will be damaged beyond repair.

Blood boiling after rewatching those moments. Especially JD Vance is an utter slimy scumbag.

It feels longer.

And to think there's another 1,430 days of this scumbag and his cronies in power in the US.

Comparing Trump to Biden/Harris was never a serious argument to make. I have my criticisms of both, but they would have been better than Trump, both domestically and internationally. I wouldn’t be worried about NATO under Biden; indeed, it has expanded since 2022 when he was in office.

November 5, 2024 will be remembered as a day in infamy.

As I said earlier. He’s made Starmer look like an absolute tool. So naive.
Trump did to him (and Macron) what Putin did to Schultz and Macron on th eve of the invasion. But this is worse coming from the president of an ally country.

He should have replied : if you have nothing meaningful to add to this debate maybe you shouldn’t be in the room. This was a complete set up. Vance & trump are such disrespectful pigs.
It was more of a setup than you can imagine. The guy asking the question is from a breitbart type batshit crazy alt right 'news' channel. Just the kind of reporters Trump has allowed into the press pool.

Oh, there were definitely serious arguments made. Take a gander at the election thread.

Yep exactly what I said before. You discuss the hard stuff behind closed doors then pose for the cameras. Never seen anything like this done in public.

Europe should absolutely do that. Will they ? I highly doubt it.

Russia wouldn't dare to attack any EU/NATO country with or without US involvement.
They very well might, the Baltic States are prime targets if they know the US will not be involved, EU/NATO have a big dependency on the US for airlift and logistical support and that's something that needs addressing sooner rather than later, you can have the best weapons going but they're useless of you can't get them to where they need to be

July 13th even more so

We were about an inch give or take away from a compete course change

Which is exactly why it feels orchestrated. It was done for show.

Its not going to get any better either, people simply can't stop buying the BS the far right is selling, they have no results to speak of, but people keep voting for them, in increasingly larger numbers regardless.

Thats assuming 2028 will even be a fair election.
