The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Zelensky misplayed it. Whether Trump and Vance were planning a trap and goading him into blowing the deal, I don't know. But you don't engage in emotional or even rational arguments in public with Trump. He's a fragile manbaby who cannot be undermined. It's all theatre for him.

I feel so much sympathy for Zelensky. I can't imagine the stress he must have been under in the private discussions, if he was like this in public. He was clearly frustrated throughout with the eyerolls and sighing. But you can't do that. Just play a Macron/Starmer and kiss his ass.

Considering their obsession with constitutional checks and balances, you’d think the Americans would have a rule to stop hostile foreign agents becoming commander-in-chief. Seems like an awfully big oversight to me

Man, someone needs to punch Vance in the face, what a cnut!

Europe needs to wake the feck up.

It's not their countries that are being ripped up by Trumps master though.
Totally get that. Zelensky is under huge, huge pressure. Neither Starmer or Macron like Trump, but they know they have to behave in a certain way to get what they want. The European overtures have been completely sunk now.

We’re not going to know whether he misplayed it for a little while yet. He was ambushed and you don’t need to be a political or intelligence analyst to see that. There was no deal to be made today, that decision was already made.

It’s now up to other world leaders to fill the vacuum.

It doesn’t matter what Zelensky did or said - this was what the outcome was going to be. It was planned.
I agree. But like I said, he probably sealed his fate. He will be pressured and replaced by some yes man. People are tired of war and I don't know if they are willing to go on without US support. I go with this from my in-laws who although they left Ukraine still have deep ties with the country. They don't believe Europe will step up.

Oooh can’t wait for Trump’s “unprecedented State visit” Sure to go well….

Massive increases in European defence spending, cooperation and re-arming need to happen.

Disgusting. If US was invaded Trump and Vance would be the first ones on a plane out.

And both Macron and Starmer publicly fact-checked Trump in the Oval Office too. Zelenskyy was just calmly speaking facts about diplomacy failing with Putin before and Vance responded by turning it into a slanging match and accusing him of being disrespectful.

I haven't seen it. Was it that bad?
Worse than bad. You should see it. Vance was disgusting and people who said in this thread that he's the most dangerous individual in the white house were right.

I don’t like putting up with bullies. Just enables them.

You're breathtakingly naive.

I'm absolutely shite with global affairs, but what's stopping Europe from playing Trump's game against him and hiking tariffs to a feck off level, isolating America completely and leaving them to their own devices?

Massive increases in European defence spending, cooperation and re-arming need to happen.
It really does. But are the European public willing to pay much higher taxes suffer lower living standards to fund it?

Just when you thought you had seen everything. Trump says, Hold my beer. There is no doubt that Trump answers back to Putin.

Think Jerry Springer

All of the post-Fergie managers rolled into one, bad.
Christ...y'all think Zelensky could have been a bit more diplomatic about it or was it like an ambush that he had to defend against?

You think he's more dangerous than Musk? I'd say Vance doesn't have nearly the direct power that Musk has at the moment.

Hopefully every world leader with an ounce of integrity watched this today and is doing group calls right now to collective form a front against this administration. Like the Dems domestically this whole going high thing in the hope reason and civility prevails doesn't work with these assholes.

One of the most ugly and embarrassing moments in American history.

Asking over and over for Zelenski to be "thankful". Just disgusting behaviour.

Zelenski was making the point that they need more than diplomacy as Putin will break any agreement.

Wow. Never seen anything like it. Stunned and I don't give a shit about politics

I think Starmer after yesterday’s triumphant day where he came out of the meeting with Trump beaming about the good nature of the talks and progress made will be feeling a bit sheepish today when he realises the entire context of that meeting was nothing more than a back drop for this charade to make Trump appear affable, reasonable and ready for serious negotiations.

Imagine your country being shot to pieces for years and some fat faced yankee cnut asks you, why don't you wear a suit?

I'd completely understand if he had beath the shit out of that reporter there.

Same for those silver spoon millionaire bully cnuts in charge of the US. Feck em, seriously. Which they'd die.
