That quote always comes to mind “When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression”. The whole extreme RW rule book world over is foundationally built on this. All these women, gay, trans, bi, Muslim, Mexican etc people are being favoured over us “pure” folk.

I don't want to sound dramatic or anything, but this honestly feels like I am living through a time that I would otherwise have only ever read about in a history textbook. It just doesn't feel real. It's kinda like how I felt during the covid pandemic and lockdown, like to this day that entire period still feels surreal, like something I would have just read about and not experienced, and what Trump and friends are doing right now feels the same way. It feels like we are living through a momentous part of history right now.
I said the same thing to my wife the other day. That growing up as a 90s kid with progressive values I never saw this regression coming throughout society. Corrections may be needed in some things that went overboard, sure but this seismic shift? Never.
And I’m saying this partly from an Indian perspective (albeit with a close eye on the west) so it shows how global the change is.

It's utterly crucial to remember that the office of the President isn't designed to make laws. That is literally the job of congress. Executive actions are not somehow magically legal, but that's what Trump is trying to tell people.
The Democrats generally pushed for policies that would become long lasting, upheld laws. For example, the work done to pass Obamacare through congress means it's almost impossible to reverse - despite Trump and his cronies trying for years.
All Trump is doing right now is pretending. He's pretending he can do whatever he wants, and that it's not violating the constitution. Almost everything he has said or done will eventually be reversed because he doesn't have the power he thinks he has. In his first term, his lawyers told him this. This time he's just doing it anyway, because it's fun, plays well on Fox News and his idiotic supporters think it shows how he's delivering on his promises.
The fact is that his promises could never be delivered on because they're deeply unpopular, and he barely holds any kind of mandate. A real leader would be working with both sides of Congress to create lasting laws.
Because the Maga movement is entirely about 'f*ck you I do what I want', he doesn't know how to do this. So will just flood the zone with sh*t EOs, almost all of which will be overturned, claim victory when he wrote them and not acknowlege when they're stopped.
The only outstanding question is if the Supreme Court will actually start going against the constitution, or if the serious members on there (and ther are really only two full clowns) will take their oaths to heart.
Sorry, the other question is when the MAGA movement will wake up to the fact that Trump and his cronies are literally now the GOVERNment. It's easy to bemoan and act like an outsider, but his job is no longer to disrupt, it is to adminster the federal government. Something he is utterly unqualified to do, and has no interest in doing.

Do we have faith that the courts will indeed do their jobs and overturn Trump's ludicrous and illegal executive orders? Hasn't Trump appointed 240 federal judges, including three Supreme Court justices?
Of course we don't. I also don't expect the government to comply with the courts if they dare reverse some EO either.

For clear examples of unconstitutional orders, yep, I think that SCOTUS would overturn them. While SCOTUS has a massive conservative bias, only two of the judges are complete partisan clowns (Thomas and Alito).
Main issue is that arguing EOs to be unconstitutional is hard and then, the president/government can just ignore the court ruling (see the Worcester vs Georgia ruling, and president Jackson's famous quote "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it.", where John Marshall was the chief justice). On other words, the SCOTUS does not have mechanisms to enforce ruling, the entire system is meant to be that three parts of the government collaborate with each other.

I suppose once it becomes clear that the President will simply tell the SCOTUS to go feck themselves anytime they rule against him, the justices will be inclined to fall in line with Trump or risk becoming marginalised and irrelevant.
How many are actually clear examples, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is the birthright citizenship one

There are many people who feel that way. Honest intentions, trying to improve life for all but so many are swayed by populism and conspiracy theorists into siding with those who stand for policies that are against their own interests against people who are well meaning. It is so frustrating that I sometimes wonder why the "liberals" or "lefts" don't use the same tools to manipulate the masses into deciding in their interests in a "the end justifies the means" way. Then I wonder if that could be the reason why so many powerful/rich people who once campaigned for climate protection and progressive policies now stand by Trump. Maybe they've just given up on accomplishing their goals by convincing people who don't want to be convinced and now try to see their agendas through in different ways like Musk who used to be all about climate protection. Then the cynic in me takes over again.
