Spitting the dummy out.

My social feeds are scenes of devastation and despair. You get the impression the apocalypse is coming. Tears, anger, accusations, blocks, unfriendings....
same happened after BeExit and is still happening in UK

I think a lot of people are underestimating the impact Trump will have. I can see why NY, California and the likes will be thoroughly disillusioned with the election process.

They pay more taxes and have less of a say than their rural state counterparts.

On another note, I wonder what President Obama will fill his time doing during the Trump years? I can't imagine he'll retire to play golf full time, with the way things are.
He'll be staying in Washington to work with the Democratic Party for the next 2 years at least.

It's a bit of a joke of a system, to be fair. The fact that a party can have as much control as the Republicans will whilst coming 2nd is absurd - Trump's win ended up being by a comfortably margin too, unlike Gore-Bush which was very close.
I've felt the EC is outdated for quite some time, no argument there... But it is the system we have.
That is not what they are doing.
That's not my point. My point is the image that they are creating. I imagine these people would have been very upset if Trump had lost and protested the outcome.

The parallel would be Trump supporters, in which case the only worry would've been the armed ones.

I've long been for this. 6th biggest economy in the world.
As good of an idea it is, you're pretty much damning the rest of the country to a Republican government forever

Not that citizens of the California republic should care mind you.

Looking at the news, New York would be more than happy to join.

I'm torn on this. I'm as disgruntled as anyone by this result, but I don't think people should discredit the electoral process. He won the Electoral College.

But, but...they lost, someone has to take the blame. It's raining in NY - 75% of these folks just needed their weekly shower.

I didn't expect mass protests all over the USA. I wonder how many of those protesting got out and voted. Any protests in WI, PA, or MI?

I like the abstract idea of California, Oregon and Washington being a separate nation. It would be one of the coolest countries in the world. Weed, skiing, tacos and Starbucks.

The Civil War put an end to such fantasies though.

This isn't a plutocracy.

Is Clinton out there protesting?

Those feckers screwed the world, let's hope they get stuck with GOP governors for ever and ever.

I'm so sorry for not being specific enough for you.

**If Trump's acolytes had protested (at his previous urging throughout the campaign)**

Give a guy a break. I'm recovering from Drumpf's win and the "historic night" drinking game

There has been a lot of protesting in major cities and it was going to continue regardless of who won this election.

Doesn't change the fact their vote counts less

Hey @InfiniteBoredom... you ok buddy?

I went to work nearly inebriated before the official call was made. Been sleeping after.

At least it'll take a while for the nuclear fallout to reach Oz.

On a serious note, I'll probably go home after finishing my Master. Planning to go to to Europe or the US for a stint originally but no way I'm subjecting myself to the shitshow now. Australia won't be exception to the rule either. The ALP (Conservative party) won again last election and right wing sentiment has been on the rise even before that. They don't really have the equivalent of UKIP/Tea Party but I won't bet on the temperament of Caucasian males.

Just realised. He'll be performing at the correspondents dinners.

I wouldn't mind as California wouldn't need to spend anything on a military seeing as the US is next door They could have brand new constitution and European style socially progressive laws.

Real sticky situation trying to get the US Navy out of San Diego

It is not that uncommon to weigh the votes. The main reason is that it generally sucks being a minority in democracies, leaving the desire to come up with some sort of compensation. Imagine a democracy consisting of 3 people, 2 communists and 1 capitalist. The capitalist would effectively not have any say, simply from the fact that he is the minority. To him, it would be indistinguishable from a dictatorship. Stylised example, yes, but the effect is assumed to persist in more complex societies.

Nah....we could lease them a base just like Bahrain does. Them being in SD would obviously be good for our protection as well. In fact they could keep all the other army and air force bases there as well. It would be like Germany.

Not to buzz kill, but once you got that solved, you'd still have the big problem of Texas v. White.

So trump still need to pay taxes or not since he is a president now?

The rednecks are going to come out of this sooo bad, i've convinced myself their misfortune is worth the entire mess.

Trump tower being protected by a barrage of dump trucks is as symbolic a picture as i've ever seen, brilliant.
