The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Its pretty hard to patronise the Americans considering that most of you come from a country who voted Brexit.

Fact is that she was one of (if not the) least popular mainstream presidential candidates in American history. The fact that she won the popular vote only proves that a better candidate would have beaten Trump.

Yes. Media loves their polls yet when their own polls told them that Clinton was the second most unpopular candidate in US presidential history
(beaten only by Trump), they ignored that or danced around it. Her campaign was not why she should be elected but why Trump should not.

My main concern is climate change and the environment. I don't see him being quite as bad as others seem to think but he's unpredictable to say the least.

I have to say Hillary was a horrible candidate for this to even be close, let alone lose it. With a lot of the media, celebrities & the big money behind her... What a huge fail.

America deserved better but it won't be the end of the world.

We can kiss kiss goodbye to Paddy's Day in the white house after the stuff the irish have said about him.

I now realize why some people can't stand Americans. In this day and age they're racially motivated. I can't wait to laugh at their faces when they realize they've created a monster.
Is that too simplistic though straight after the first black US president served two terms?

That should have been enough, and the majority of Americans agree, just that they don't live in the right states. :(

The Clinton foundation is corrupt, its certainly not flimsy
What way?
90% of their donations go to what it's mean for. That's as good as you'll see anywhere.
It's one of he best foundations out there.

Yes they take money from Saudi and Qatar? So does our queen. Doesn't mean corruption.

We'll see the end of America's pivot to Asia which will destabilize the region with China's expansionist policy and Japan & Korea being backed into a corner.

He already said that he wouldn't mind them getting nukes...

There is no way neo cons in GOP will allow Trump to do that.

Yeah, pretty much agree with everything here.

How pro-Clinton press is spinning it now -

Media's fault - http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/9/13570724/media-obsession-emails
Comey's fault - http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/11/hillary-clinton-loses-2016-election-214439
She still won the popular vote-

Everyone is to be blamed but her.

He's won the popular vote too. Clinton and the dems have managed to lose the house, senate, presidency and popular vote. She might even end up in jail. A huge and arrogant mistake in nominating her as their candidate.

No need for ur measured opinion and common sense about here bud.

As I said in the other thread, it won't take long before rural America realises he offers tem nothing.
Open he coal mines, build a wall, tear up free trade agreements?
You're having a laugh.
This. The US is in a difficult position now because there'll be lots of angry people if trump goes through with his policies and there'll be lots of angry people when he doesn't go through with his policies.

No its just that more people came out to vote for Obama and the white supremacy voters didn't stand a chance. This election Hillary just didn't have enough support and they prevailed.

Negative campaigns always fail to energize people to vote. Then the fact that polls were so sure of Clinton win meant a lot of people who did not like Clinton did not even bother to vote to stop Trump.

I thought there was something to the 'whitelast' but not so sure now. There is a percentage of white people who were fine to vote for Obama but did not vote for a white woman.

Still 47% of votes to be counted in California.

Really upset and unsettled in all honesty. I'm not convinced that the human race will make its life better in my lifetime anymore. We're moving away from logic, reason and the enlightenment, and it seems to be happening very quickly.

From what I can see you are actually reacting to the news very well

Fair play

RT saying that many Bernie supporters went over to Trump thinking it would just be a movement and are shocked that he won. Sounds like those idiots who thought voting Brexit would be a laugh because they thought remain had it in the bag

This. Everything that's happened in 2016 makes me more convinced than ever that civilization will end soon.

I am exceptionally gutted for Barack Obama.
All his hard work will be erased from history.

I know a few and I really don't want to see their faces. I'll probably get fired tomorrow because I'll punch anyone who brags about voting for the pussy grabber.

Well, after coming over the initial shock i've gotten some perspective and this is what i think:
1) He is probably not as much of a luntic as he appeared in his campaign and some of his more ridiculous ideas (like that fecking wall) will never see the light of day, which leads to:
2) His most staunch (and lunatic) supporters will probably be livid once they realize he actually won't build a wall and he can't just snap his fingers and create jobs and wealth out of thin air
3) He won't run the US (or the world) into the ground as even the POTUS does not have that amount of power.

Overall though, i think the US will see more racial riots, a bigger discrepancy in the distribution of wealth, more "class war" and even less welfare and social security for the poorest. What really is needed in the US is a monumental tax reform for the rich and the big corporations, but we won't see that under Trump

With "Occupy Wall Street" and there seemingly being a motion to "take down those greedy capitalists" it's just bewildering how they managed to elect the epitome of a greedy capitalist as their president

Edit: Oh, and hes absolutely going to HATE being president. Being a billionaire playboy and making bullish claims is easy. Actually running a country and living up to all those expectations and promises, while constantly being scrutinized is something completely different

A bit gutted.

But I knew when I woke up this morning that I'd be seeing him winning as the headline when I checked the news, because it felt exactly like Brexit. Nobody had him winning, it'd be too stupid to actually happen etc.

What's worse is he enters a republican run congress, which makes it twice as bad.

A country I love and I have lots of friends there and from there, and I would have loved to move there one day, and they go and do this. Awful.

Serious question from someone outside the US: what is up with all the "nation is divided" rhetoric? Isn't it literally always divided? Has any president ever won 100% of the vote?

Sorry fellas, seems that women weren't as bothered by Trump's misogyny as you thought they were.

So then the issue is not the racist voters but the non racist majority that voted in Obama couldn't be arsed for Hilary. If the majority that voted Obama in couldn't get behind Hilary then it suggests that its deeper than a racism issue.

"More divided than ever". The 'left' and the right are further apart than ever on a huge number of issues
