We had a clear chance which Wanyama should have buried to make it 1-1 and there were limited chances on either side bar the odd decent save from both keepers. Could easily have ended 1-1
as well as 4:1 for us which would be fair

He is our number 1 player in chances created this season?

These stats are largely meaningless. I watched an Arsenal game last season where Ozil rolled a 5 yard ball to Ramsey (I think) who beat somebody and smashed it in the top corner from 25-30 yards and all the commentators could talk about that it was another Ozil assist.

I don't think Moneyball works in football.

How good would you say Pogba is? He's very athletic but his brain seems to tick over very slowly, he's definitely not in the top echelon of midfield players, he's not intelligent enough.

Strange timing of that comment given that he just bossed your boy Dembele off the park, and has generally looked very sharp for a couple of months now. He started a bit slow, but if he continues like he has for the past month or two, he's definitely among the best in the league. And comfortably our best player. He uses his unique combination of physique and technique excellently to drive us forward, and frequently and consistently creates chances by combining clever passing and great vision.

He's often played in the same areas as Modric, so in that way it's fair. Although given the quality of Modric it probably isn't fair on Pogba to pick Modric for comparison. Now Pogba seems to being playing in a more advanced role IMHO he needs a hell of a lot more end product.

Dele the same, it's not been enough this season. It will be interesting to see if he can go to a higher level, technically I think he can but that's not enough and I have real doubts and that we (Spurs) may end up a bit disappointed with him.

it wouldn't surprise me at all if both of these players ultimately disappoint.

Think you're being very harsh as most United fans are far from disappointed with Pogba. He's not even at Christmas yet in his real debut season in a new league.

You're entitled to your opinion of course but as said already we are a far better side than last season with him in the midfield. He's bossed a few games this season and left Arsenal chasing their tails a few weeks ago. He's also chipped in with some very good goals and assists.

If he wasn't 89m I don't think we'd be having this conversation.

we don't have anyone to do that tho so it's unlikely to be the case haha

I echo the poster above, the 89m price tag and people are using it to raise expectations.

We are a better team with him in it

The problem with the comparison is that midfield is such a nuanced position with very distinct roles. Pogba and Modric would complement each other brilliantly as their skill set is very different. Pogba can do lots that Modric could never do and vice versa.

That said, Pogba is eight years younger than Modric. Eight years ago Modric was playing for Dinamo Zagreb and hadn't yet established himself, so Pogba is well ahead of the curve.

The comparison with Alli is even more daft for the opposite reason. Pogba is already established at the top level, winning multiple major honours and individual awards, as well as being widely recognised as one of the best midfielders around. Alli has had a few good months last season, nothing more. He'll need to seriously up his game over the next couple of years to even be mentioned in the same breath.

Thank you for the offer but I'll pass on that one.
Then don't make such ridiculous comments on a player you don't even watch play. It's like me telling you Kane is a poor striker because he never turns up against us.

I doubt many midfielders in the league have had more key passes than Pogba this season.

Pogba is 15th in key passes so far this season (at 1.9 a game).

Surprisingly the current leader by quite a margin is Payet (3.7 a game) which is quite a bit ahead of De Bruyne (2.9) then Sanchez and Tadic (2.7).

If he was even half as good as you think he would have walked into the PL and torn it up, he hasn't and doesn't look likely too anytime soon, but he has undoubtedly improved the team.

But he doesnt have a cat in hells chance of reaching Modric's level, there's just a huge gulf in ability let alone footballing intelligence. After Xavi Modric is the best central midfield player of a generation. That said its not a fair stick to hit other players with.

As for Dele, rumour is PSG are going to table a £50m bid, if we took it and he went then by 23 he will also have plenty of titles and awards to his name, but it won't improve his level.

Er I have watched him play, or do I have to watch every minute of every one of his games to have an opinion?

No I said you don't watch him play. That doesn't mean you have never watched him play, it means you don't regularly watch him play. If you had, you'd realise how ridiculous you sound.

I've seen him enough to form an opinion, I doubt very much you watch Messi every week but I'm going to hazard a guess that you think he's pretty good.

Modric struggled a lot when he first arrived. It took him a while to settle in the league and show his worth. So if we're judging Pogba by those standards, then he's doing fine (he's easily been one of our best performers). Modric was a couple of years older when he arrived too. Pogba will definitely outstrip Modric's achievements in the PL. Modric has taken his game to another level at Real Madrid. Pogba has time on his side to do the same here.

Re: Dele Alli, the difference is Pogba has already done it (in a much better league than France) whereas you're speaking in hypotheticals about something Dele Alli might do (but probably won't). Dele Alli may have to leave Spurs to achieve something, but he hasn't yet and is flattering to deceive at Spurs. So for now he has it all to prove and is stuck at an average team.

I hate to break it to you but they are both currently stuck in average teams and judging by the table you are currently even more average than us, which with how poorly we are playing is quite a feat.

I'm not going to comment further on Pogba Modric, it's pointless as the gulf in class isn't surmountable.

Feck Spurs. Delighted to beat the absolute cnuts and hope their season goes off a cliff from here. Used to feel fairly benign about them but a certain resident troll has driven me to despise the thuggish wankers. Here's hoping Danny Rose stands on a piece of lego in his bare feet. Dickhead.

Pogba has already played in top level teams. I don't include the current United side in that. Dele Alli will have to leave Spurs.

Pogba is quite a bit ahead of Modric at similar ages so the gulf in class has already been surmounted.

Modric is at the peak of his powers currently but then he has eight years of development on Pogba. Sky's the limit.

Wouldn't say he is. Pogba was proven to be a quality player in one of the top 4-5 teams in the world at Juve, and is a key player for one of the top few national teams in the world. Still very young. Not sure if he'll ever reach Modric levels and they are completely different types of players, but at the same age, Pogba is better then what Modric was at that age. For sure.

Modric is possibly my favourite midfielder ever after Scholes, but even he didn't hit it off in the premier league right away. Took him a year to settle properly in Madrid too before being the best midfielder in the world there. Pogba has all the natural ability in the world along with the raw physical attributes. As you said earlier, he has to be more decisive in some parts of his game with his decision making but I'm confident that will come with time.

Spot on mate! I personally thought that he was fantastic in the second half today.

As I've said many times, goals aside, Kane is a fecking rubbish footballer. Obviously his job is to score goals, but the rest of his game is so poor, and cost his team today. He looked so fecking awkward on the ball before he lost it, 10 yards further forward, he'd have probably just resorted t his default setting and tried a shot.

Have you watched a lot of Pogba this season? He's regularly one of our best performers, while doing some insanely skillful things every game. He has a huge responsibility on his shoulders and is still only 23 years old. I think your sentence might be more applicable to your own situation. Pogba has not disappointed, far from it. In fact, he's exceeded my expectations so far, as I thought he'd be more affected by the price tag.

Pogba and Herrera were fantastic today. The price tag skews peoples thoughts into thinking he should be pinging 30 yarders every game.

Alli was terrible. Dembele was ok.

So was this the MF Pogba wouldn't get into? Bizarre after watching today's game.

Something to say about Spurs, they're so far ahead of what they used to be. They have a steel and determination they haven't had for a long time and most importantly, they're a team that's well drilled and organised.

It's no wonder they're so tough to beat.

Genuinely laughed out loud at that one. Class

Spurs fans salty as feck I love it.

I generally didn't know Kane was playing today until I saw a close up of him after 50 minutes, worst player on the park by some distance.

Oh come on, Modric was a year older than Pogba is right now when he just came to Spurs and it took him 2 years to really hit the ground running. It's a bit unfair to compare a player at his absolute peak that's 8 years older with Pogba right now. Like someone said above if Pogba didn't cost us 89 million we wouldn't be even talking about this. Pogba has so much upside and we could revisit this convo again in a year when he gets at the same age when Modric debuted or in 3 years when he gets to the same age when Modric started hitting his peak form.

To say that Pogba has no chance to get even close of reaching level Modric has today is a bit daft. Like others said he's actually playing better than Modric did at the same age.

:nono: wishing injury on a player is against forum rules.

A mate of mine has felt like that since 1962
