Aaaand they're out. Not an easy group but also not the strongest, expected more from them.
Didn't @GlastonSpur had a bet with someone that they'll go through?
Lol ... your delusions know no bounds. Levy won't sell and Kane doesn't want to leave ... especially not to a club playing Thursday night football.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Ha.

You're Spurs. And thus, you will always Spurs it.

You'll soon be back in the EL again, where you'll also Spurs it.

Sorry to quote myself, but hey, there you go.

Nothing more than the deluded Spurs WUMs on here deserve.

Spurs simply do not belong in the CL, never have, never will.

They've also heaped pressure on themselves to get a result against Chelsea at the weekend, which probably isn't too smart given their implosion against Chelsea last season...

Confident about getting a result at the weekend @GlastonSpur @SirHenryPercy @balaks ?

A club belongs in the CL if they qualify for it ... simple as that. We didn't do ourselves justice this time around, but last time we did well enough.

I'm not especially confident about the Chelski match, being away from home and all.

Well that was a complete waste of time. They were even worse than us lot last season.

Shame they're out - not least because I'm sure they'll take the Europa League more seriously this time since finishing in the league above Liverpool, Chelsea and City will be be very difficult, and obviously they won't ever finish above Arsenal.

Especially annoying for those of us hoping that we'd find a way to win the Europa League to get that same Champions League spot, but we'll probably be out of the competition soon anyway so it won't matter  :(

Cocky Spurs strike again.

Spurs really didn't turn up in the CL. How many 50/50 balls did they lose tonight? Some were probably 60/40 in their favour and they just pussyfooted about.

They won't win at the Bridge, haven't won't their since 1990. After the last game of season, and the form of Chelsea are in it could bring out the worst in them again. I hope they do qualify for the Europa it gives them a headache of choosing where their focus should be, and gives us a chance to break away from a rival to consolidate a potential 4th spot.

Wow. A bold prediction on November 3rd (just before this game, when it was obvious Spurs needed not to lose tonight).

Well, I've held the same stance about Spurs for decades, I'm sure my earlier posts in this thread will back that up.

From Oct 3rd after they'd beaten the bitters...

Your intensity will fade as the season goes on and you don't have the quality within your squad to rotate and stay at the highest level.

I think CL will really take it's toll on you coupled with the demands of trying to mount another title push.

Lets remember that last season you actually ended up finishing below Arsenal, and no-one really views them as last season's title challengers.

In many ways, the bottle job you pulled last season is being glossed over - especially since you didn't have CL football to deal with last season.

To be fair to them, I'd much rather they won the league than any of the other suspects this season. But even if they did, they'd do the same in the CL again next season.

Spurs spursing. Surprise.

I'm just joking. We Man Utd fans can't talk after we've spent so much money and we're still below Spurs in the league table.

What is the story with United fans on here acting as if Spurs are City/Liverpool/Arsenal?

It's not like we haven't bowed out of this competition early ourselves. Remember 2011/2012? Last season? Or even 2005/2006?

I would laugh but we've gone out at the same stage the last two times we were in the competition. We were also pretty pathetic on both occasions. The drop in standards from English sides in this competition is poor. From 2004-2012 there was almost always a Premier League side involved in the latter stages. Now it's a struggle to get past the second round.

The emergence of Messi, Ronaldo switching to La Liga and the rise of Simeone's management style swung things in La Liga's favour.

that was funny as hell. I remember him gloating about how great Spurs' philosophy is despite not winning anything and now they are out of CL at 1st hurdle. I would rather win the FA cup than qualify for CL and then crash out in the groups

You talk about their intensity but apart from Man City and 5 minutes at the weekend there has been no intensity. They are getting by in the league as they rarely concede.

I want them to be in the Europa so we're both in the same boat. If they have a full week of preparation like Chelsea and Liverpool it may kick-start a title charge which damages our top 4 chances.

Because of Glaston, basically. Years and years of his posts have pretty much poisioned the attitude towards what should be quite a likeable club who have been doing things the right way to build themselves up. That's basically it; there's no hatred between United and Spurs, not even the type of one-way hatred United get from the likes of West Ham or Stoke.

Also the emergence of PSG and Dortmund as well as Juve being a force again.

They are a likeable club, with a young core(that is also mostly British), likeable manager and who generally play good Football. It is just the posts of one member to poison the well.

This sounds about right.

Every Spurs fan I know in real life is totally sound, some of my best friends are Spuds.

But as an online fanbase, Spurs fans, for whatever reason, change...

A bit like Gremlins, or something.

Interesting that one person can have that effect.

I've always liked Spurs and Everton as sort of "second teams" in The Premier League. My grandad used to live beside White Hart Lane way back in the day and knew a few of the players.

Everton vs Bolton was the first ever Premier League game I attended. We played a football tournament in Liverpool and our manager was an Everton fan. Jay-Jay Okocha.

Fully expecting us to get stuffed by Chelsea tbh. We were bloody awful tonight and its just embarrassing to fight for years to get into the champions league to then perform so poorly in every game. I'm choosing to ignore your 'trolling' though. We aren't all like Glaston you know.

Basically, United fans don't like the fact that I correctly predicted (a) the decline of United and have been clear in pointing out the reasons for that decline; and (b) the relative rise of Spurs.

Many of my posts have been hotly disputed by some United fans ... who have essentially railed against my analysis, even tho' it's generally been proven right.

I'm going to hold off laughing because a) we didn't even qualify and b) they might beat us at the weekend.

If we stuff them on saturday, a) is going out of the window as a reason not to take the piss.

Yeah... Relative. Now it's relative....

Oh man, Spurs. Could have at least saved something in the tank for Chelsea. This huge demotivator is going to play straight into Chelsea's hands. Can't see the same spirit that drew with a rampant Liverpool and beat City.
Reverse jinx fingers crossed

Gracious retort. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't enjoyed your failing in the CL.

But, I hope you lot get revenge on Chelsea at the weekend. Think a lot will depend if Poch can set you up to absorb rather than uber-press.

On that note - do you think Poch needs to develop tactically a little bit if you're gonna push on to the next level? I don't watch your every game, but whenever I do, whether you're great or poor on the day, it seems like he has 1 gear, so to speak.

It's an exciting way to play, but I think this CL 'campaign' will have taught him a lot when he looks back at it.

Also, don't view it as 'embarrassing', mate. At least you were in there! The important thing is that you react to this, and it's made the Chelsea game this weekend a 'must watch' as a neutral.

But yeah, take the banter on the chin and don't get too down about it - you'll be probably be in here 'trolling' me when you dump us out of the EL! :)

You finished below Arsenal and then got dumped straight out of the CL...

Livin' large, Glasto.
Contrast that to where they were pre Poch. You have to go back to Redknapp's best season with them for the last time they made the Champions League. Relatively speaking they are obviously far better now than they have been for years. They finished above us and City last season. They're five above us right now.

They won't win the league (I also don't think they'll make top four), but they're still a lot more difficult to beat these days. You used to take games against them for granted.

Relative to United - and indeed to others of old perennial top 4 teams - Spurs have risen and/or closed the gap. And that's not to mention the off-pitch developments such as our new stadium, which some on here said would never be built.

Exactly. For us United fans to be gloating about Spurs being bounced from the CL when we're having to fight tooth and nail to advance in the EL is as demented as it gets.

That's all very true. Exciting times ahead for your lot that's for sure. Only years and years of being in amongst it will the doubters fade. Can't help thinking your best chance of a title was last year though. Still, longevity at the sharp end with many title challenges to look forward to is preferable to a once in a lifetime title, a la Leicester. Well, for an ambitious club, looking at the bigger picture and all. Dare to believe, right?
