Gaming The SM RedCafe League

@RedSky what would need to go in to coding up a replacement?

Match engine would be the most complicated part, but breaking it down into stages simplifies it.

You'd limit it to a European database with the big 5 (maybe add Portugal). You'd automate the rating system based on real life stats then simply import the rating data to the game every fortnight.

You'd probably ignore match engine initially and get the club section working first. Then delve into a match engine once the rest is up and running.

And come up with an algorithm for values and stuff.

Aye, I had an idea when it came to player ratings which uses the a similar system to the UEFA Rankings. Each club is given a ranking which is determined by the amount of points they've managed to get for the past 5 seasons in the league (you could also include Europe points if you were limiting the game to just Europe). These points then determine the clubs maximum rating. What this means is that when a club gets more successful in real life, the max rating will therefore increase naturally.

Then you simply come up with a simple rating system that checks how many minutes the player has played in the season, goals/assists/clean sheets get a small point bonus, yellows/reds/goals conceded gives a point reduction. You then have three tiers for each club - youth, squad, first team. Each player is awarded a tier depending on the amount of minutes they've played and their age. Higher the tier, the higher the rating. You then average out the players rating based on the last 8-10 results.

So as an example of the Club Ranking:

Real Madrid

11/12 - 100 pts = 2.63 points average
12/13 - 85 pts = 2.24
13/14 - 87 pts = 2.29
14/15 - 92 pts = 2.42

So then sum the average points together = 9.58
You then times that sum by a ranking multiplier to get your final points tally.
9.58 * 20 = 191.58

So Real Madrid have a Club League Ranking of 191.6 points.

If you repeat this for a few of the La Liga clubs you get the following:

  • Barcelona - 195.7
  • Real Madrid - 191.5
  • Atletico De Madrid - 156.3
  • Valencia - 132.6
  • Sevilla - 125.7
  • Athletic Club - 115.2
  • Real Sociedad - 114.7
  • Malaga - 110.5
  • Villarreal - 102.5
  • Levante - 97.8
  • Real Betis - 87.3
There is a slight difference in this as Villarreal and Real Betis have both had a season in the second division in Spain. In this scenario you then divide the average points total by the division they're in.

I.E. Villarreal 12/13 - 77 points (42 games) = 1.83 points, divide by 2 = 0.92.

All you then need to do is convert the points to a rating.

Obviously it would need tweaking a little bit otherwise PSG will be one of the best clubs due to their high points totals. So you'd want to get all the major clubs done and then do some tweaking.

Here's some random English Clubs mixed in. Also taken the Uefa Ranking for each club from 11/12 to 14/15, summed them together and divided it by 10 (multiplier than can be adjusted).
  1. Barcelona - 208.6 / 99max
  2. Real Madrid - 205.4 / 99max
  3. Manchester City - 181.8 / 98max
  4. Chelsea - 173.6 / 97max
  5. Manchester United - 170.9 / 97max
  6. Atletico De Madrid - 167.5 / 96max
  7. Arsenal - 165.1 / 96max
  8. Tottenham Hotspur - 150.2 / 95max
  9. Valencia - 140.5 / 94max
  10. Liverpool - 139.5 / 93max
  11. Sevilla - 132.6 / 93max
  12. Everton - 127.9 / 92max
  13. Athletic Club - 120.6 / 92max
  14. Real Sociedad - 117 / 91max
  15. Malaga - 114.4 / 91max
  16. Villarreal - 105.8 / 90max
  17. Newcastle United - 104.8 / 90max
  18. Levante - 100.8 / 90max
  19. Real Betis - 90.2 / 89max
Hard to disagree City being 3rd given that they've been 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd in the last 4 years.

If you then had a simple system like: 99 = 190+, 98 = 180+, 97 = 170+ etc

Have Schalke been reviewed, then? :(

Tah rose just by 1. The incompetence is starting to really irritate me.
What rating is he now? Played every minute but soccer wiki seem to not rise defenders as much/as quickly as they do certain attacking players - particularly in Germany

Don't think schalke have been reviewed yet. Tah is rated a glorious 86 now. Absolutely pathetic. It's all about attackers and fancy names now with the daft system.

Christ. Should have gone up to say 87 with maybe another plus one at the end of the season if he continues playing (I'd be surprised if he was suddenly dropped)

Soccerwiki. Enough said. SM seem determined to suck out every source of enjoyment from the game.

Jedvaj's recent injury problems are frustrating me. Had a real chance to stick a claim to his place this season but thats gone tits up and when he does return it'll be hard for him to get back in starting lineup

Quite amazing how good you've been with your youth signings. You had to let a few players go with FFP and most of them seem to have turned out well, which is probably annoying for you.

SM need to drastically change their approach but doesn't look like happening with Steven's stubbornness.

Yeah, had a lot of time in those days as I was in college and spent a lot of it scouting for the best talents. You're right, lost a lot of good players due to FFP, see them signed by other managers here from time to time. A mini transfer battle is on for one of them as we speak :p. FFP has been good for the league though, no complains.

Yeah, doesn't look like changing. The very fundamental of the rating system is so wrong. Bunch of users voting for the changes. Absolutely absurd. Seeing their recent resistance to all advice, lost hope in them changing things tbh.

Oh, so he's been injured. Was just checking Tah's stats the other day when the Bundesliga's review started and wondered why Jedvaj hasn't featured. Didn't bother checking the reason :D
