Gaming The SM RedCafe League

"Smaller" clubs can beat "bigger" clubs for sure. But it should be with well thought out tactics. I have seen some very illogical tactics win. Like, playing offside trap with pressing in own half (low defensive line)? Makes no sense, surely pressing all over (i assume, a higher defensive line) would be better. There are countless examples on weird results on the SM forum. For example; someone set up tactics with all arrows pointing towards the middle of the pitch to see what would happen. They won.

The new season is about to start. Plenty of risers will emerge again for clubs to make money or even find genuine talents.

Thoughts on extending the cap for all teams by 5 with certain riders like a rate cap on players one can buy, etc to ensure the cap extension isn't used to simply buy more higher rated squad players.

Ah yes, forgot the thrashing you handed out to United. Completely unrealistic.

The only good element about this game is the transfers.
Yup. That was one of the reason I sold Nastasic. Was bored with lack of transfers and wanted some transfer fun.

One of the reasons why I chose Southend United is because of the "unrealistic" nature of the match engine, else no one would bother to manage lower league clubs

Can't access SM at work, but I think my team is now at Level 6 in Connect League, overcoming most of the overpowered teams out there

Since young, highly rated defenders are hard to come by, it's a decent deal for both sides. Although, i'd say it slightly favors you. Shaqiri isn't going to Stoke, there is just no way. He still has potential to be a top class winger.

Yup, I can't see him going to Stoke either. Atletico and Spurs both in the mix.

Its all about tactics Varun. You played 3-5-2 so I was attacking through the flanks with both wingers and fullbacks going forward. As you had three defenders this left you exposed as it would do in a real game if your team was forced to be stretched and was caught out by long balls. Look at all the goals:

David LUIZ makes a great interception and chips the ball forward.
FEGHOULI brings down the ball with a beautiful control and rifles in a low shot.

GOAL!! - HART can't get down quickly enough and the ball ends up in the net.
27' NASTASIĆ tries to tackle Rubén PARDO but gets the man instead of the ball.
Free kick to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Jesús NAVAS spots the keeper slightly out of position and strikes the free kick.
spacer.gif
GOAL!! - It sails in over the keeper!
41' LAHM beats his man and crosses towards the penalty spot.
FÀBREGAS heads it at goal.
MUSLERA dives across his goal and palms the ball away.
45'

Half time
60' A desperate challenge from MONREAL to stop LAHM getting a shot away. It looks like it's inside the box.
The referee awards the penalty to Arsenal.
Arjen ROBBEN strikes it low and hard.
spacer.gif
GOAL!! - The keeper is sent the wrong way and the ball flies into the corner.
64' MOSES plays a square ball to NALDO.
NALDO fires a long shot.
spacer.gif
GOAL!! - The keeper gets a hand to it but can't keep it out.
73' MOSES receives the ball out wide.
He makes space for the cross and strikes the ball into the box.
NEGREDO controls it and hits it on the volley.
spacer.gif
GOAL!! - HART takes a step the wrong way and the ball flies in.
78' MOSES finds Moussa SISSOKO with a high ball.
SISSOKO controls the ball, holds off a challenge and fires it towards goal.
The keeper throws a hand towards the ball.
spacer.gif
GOAL!! - He can't get there in time and it creeps in.

I was also playing fast paced, high pressing football and that always causes for my players conditions to be reduced dramatically and pick up injuries almost evety game. But it does pay off result-wise and if you look at every game I have lost the result has been very very tight.

Nah, would be completely and utterly unfair on the newer managers. I agree unequivocally with what @The Taurean says.

That tactic would leave your 2 CBs isolated vs 2 94 rated strikers in Rooney and Cavani. 2 v 2 with an 8 point rating gap and yet I score just 1,that too from a pen?

Full backs bombing forward would also leave robben and lahm with acres of space. Yet they don't create anything?

You even dominated the possession ffs, how's that possible when you're playing a direct game on top of the the gulf in quality between the teams?

It could work against 3-5-2 in SM, but needs to fine-tune the tactics to achieve consistent victories

Still think there is some randomness in match engine. I once tried an ultra-defensive tactics with all players having arrow pointing backwards, and won

For them to do any of that would mean that they need the ball. I had hard tackling, fast pace, and high pressing all over and that's why I dominated posession. My CB were not isolated as I had 2 holding MF providing help to deal with your two strikers. So it was a 4 on 2 situation at all times considering your wingers or any of your players for that matter didn't have any instructions to bomb forward.

I always fine tune my player positions and tactics. That's why I always play friendlies at every opportunity.

I had 16 shots vs 15 for you. 11 on target for both teams. I did plenty of "that".

When you admit your full backs were bombing forward, it's natural that the 2 highest rated players on my team, my wingers, would have plenty of space to exploit. Yet, they didn't. I had modric as my DM. To work of my CBs are rated 94. I don't see how passing it forward would be that big a problem at all.

To put it simply, leaving robben and lahm open would be disaster in real life. Especially when the supply is being bade me fabregas and modric and the ones responsible for finishing these chances are Rooney and Cavani. Yet, what happened was moses and negredo tearing apart a defence of Pique chiellini and Nastasic.

I'm not on my laptop but in a 4-2-3-1, aren't the 2 CMs and not DMs? If so, you claiming they were helping your 2 CBs should mean me having 3 extra men there too as I actually played a DM and 2 CMs. These 3 have ratings of 94, 95 and 91 which when added to my CBs makes you scoring 5 an even bigger joke.

It would never result in a 5-1 win considering the respective ratings of the teams and the reasons I have mentioned in my last few posts. LB is just focusing on how he exploited my defence but ignoring the fact that he'd be ridiculously exposed when I get the ball especially with his FBs bombing forward. It happened too as I created 16 chances with 11 on target, 1 more chance than him. I also had the superior defence, strikers and GK, yet I scored 1 while he scored 5.

Dunno whats funnier, Varun wanting the cap increased or Litterbug defending the SM Match Engine...

I didn't want the cap increased without any riders. I proposed an increase in a way to simply make money by having a rating cap on players one can buy. I haven't checked but I'm guessing most teams would be on the limit now thus Increasing the cap by a few players let's everyone make money and get some muppet action. It wouldn't result in the bigger teams hoarding the higher rated players either.

The game is boring without transfers tbh.

Gotta sell to buy Varun, thats the point of the cap m'afraid.

You've got the 2nd largest stadium! It's even harder for clubs like mine to make money!

It's less to do with making money and more to do with the fun that transfers bring. I see no one is interested though, fair enough.

My stadium brings more money, my squad means I spend a lot on wages. Lose a lot every away game so I'm not increasing my bank balance at all. Need to check what happens in home games.

You're like Uncle Scrooge swimming in your cash.

What's depressing are the wages at my club. I lose a lot on away matches which will continuously force me to sell :(

Same.
I have reduced weekly wage burden by 66k net based on transfers for this season though. Still make more loss in away games than profit in home games but the difference has come down somewhat.

Its always easy for people to blame the SM engine when however I spend hours sorting out formation, players positions and tactics. I take everything into account including morale and condition.

Look at Navas he has scored 5 goals and assisted 4 in 9 games which is more than he did in 46 games over two seasons at Villa. Moses is a machine with 3 goals and 7 assists in 9 games. I utilise players in a manner that gets the best out of them. Its happened way too often for it to be a random coincidence. We will see further as the season goes on who is right.

Can't take you seriously Litterbug when it's proven how shit the engine is. Someone did the "subs bench" tactic, where they pointed all of their arrows to the sub bench and still won the game. When scenarios like that happen you know that the engine is totally useless. You're new to this game Litterbug, at least you're making us laugh.
