A quick analysis of the two top-flight sides that are up for grabs to new/lower division managers. Ratings are given on various aspects of the sides, with 1 representing "worst in the division":
.....Fulham
Current position: 5
Currently 14th, the Cottagers are solidly in the middle of the great mass of clubs that make up the middle of the Division 1 table. 3 points behind the 10th position, which gets you into Europe, and 5 points ahead of the teams in the relegation zone. They've it all to play for.
Present Squad: 2 Youth Factor: 8
With an average rating of 90, Fulham's top XI is one of the weaker squads in the league. What's striking though about this squad is how young it is. Only 1 of that top XI is above the age of 26. Di Maria and Sahin are stars with potential to rise further. Decent cover, not that much will be necessary as Fulham are out of the cups.
Finances: 6
At 26K, Craven Cottage is one of the smaller home venues, but Fulham fans manage to fill at least 85% of the seats for every match, more often 90+%, and Fulham have the fourth-lowest wage bill in the division. I don't know how much cash they have on hand.
Muppetry Potential: 5
With Fulham having a young squad, future risers aren't necessarily something an incoming manager would need to push for. Nevertheless, should he wish to, there's enough value in the squad to make some moves.
..Aston Villa
Current position: 3
Any incoming Villa manager knows his role: Keep the team from being relegated. Currently Villa are just a point out of the relegation zone. Still, if they can get a run going, Europe is still just 8 points away.
Present Squad: 6 Youth Factor: 6
It's a testament to how important it is to keep on your team that this club's position in the table is as low as it is. The Top XI have an average rating of 91, and there's mid to high 80s cover all over the pitch. While not quite as young as Fulham, there's been a definite attempt not to saddle the club with too many over-30 players. Young stars like Benzema, Alexis Sanchez, and Thiago Alcantara are among the more interesting names.
Finances: 4
Again, I don't know how much cash Villa have, but their wage bill is smack dab in the middle, 11th-highest in the top flight, and while they've got a stadium that seats 42K, you can pretty much cross off any chance of filling that many seats, as the derby with West Brom was the only time they sold that many. It looks like most home matches are averaging about 27K attendance.
Muppetry Potential: 9
Over 110M of Villa's 190M value is currently free of transfer bans, and another 20M in value is going to come free in the next five days. You'll be able to completely remake this team if you choose.
