Personally, I feel the early 20s age group is the one where you want to top the list. Barely 20% of these teenage kids will make it.
A very rough way I look at it is based on progression at ages. Not just rating wise but how are they physically.

Like is the player using a physical advantage over a technical one for them to be considered promising. A good example was Renato Sanches a good player but one who used his physique from a young age more so than technique yet was tipped to be the next big thing. IMO more importantly is are they mentally mature in terms of decision making which tends to be the bigger signpost of quality at a younger age. Are they making decisions that are appropriate for the situation or position and sometimes this could mean a number 10 who doesn’t complete lots of passes but tries a lot of creative ones and you can see the brain working and that generally separates the potential to be very good to the capped at 90 style players.

I’m a terrible judge of young CBs for this exact reason it’s much harder to see the defensive brain in action which is why when you see someone like Virgil Van Dijk it’s so impressive!

It’s impossible to know a lots about all the leagues so I mainly look at ones like Belgium, France and Netherlands closely as there is so much more data for Spain, England, Italy and Germany it’s easier to be a lazy scout for them.

One thing I’ve noticed since playing SM though is the pathway a lot of players take so an above average player at youth level seems to fit into these pathways with flexibility as to when they start playing regular football.

16/17 78+
18 83+
19 85+
20 87+
21 88+
23 90+

So essentially IMO if you have a player in those ages at those ratings or above they historically are above average for that age group and more often then not end up 90 rated or above at some point in their careers injuries permitting.

The lower down the age group you go the harder this is to predict but I completely agree with you I would much rather be on top in the early 20 -23 age group as these players are already putting in quality performances and are about to enter their more physically capable years. I think after 23 it becomes a lot more obvious if a player is going to be 92+ (which is what I’d consider to be a very good player who is pretty much fulfilling potential)
90/91 Quality first team player (Top 50 players in that position)
92/3 Top quality (Top 20 players in position)
94+ World Class (Top 10 players in position)

As expected, lost 1:0 at home to Arsenal despite being the dominant side.

Beat QPR again, won 3, drew 1, qualified from my group and only scored 3 goals so far... at least we are consistent with our lack of goals!!! Have only had one game (all cups and league) where we havnt scored a goal and that was the draw vs getafe...

My reserves with a 5:0 victory against Wycombe Wanderers. There's definitely some coding to prevent a victory greater than 5:0, or making it very unlikely. Sancho out injured for a week, dealing another blow to my top four chances. Of course I face City in the next round of the Shield - my hopes of progressing in that are over.

I see they are doing the France rating updates, must be the least exciting rating change period in a long time as I can't see too many players getting changes since Januaray.

I actually think quite a few changes will happen based on how they were performing before lockdown. Lots of young talents got tiny increases before and could do with an extra bump.

Even in the PL there are some woefully underrated players I expect to gain.

They are going to review France twice without reviewing Austria once. Seems legit.

Doesn't seem to be a full review. Didn't review any today and half the teams have been missed out. Plus, they've ignored all my players as standard.
It's good that they're giving some players rises because they deserve it but they're clearly reviewing France, missing Austria completely. Like.. SM logic.

Doesn't austria happen once a year?

It looks like leagues which are officially closed will be reviewed first. Austria will restart.
I suppose, it has been a year and 2 days since Daka was reviewed.. They took 15-16 months for the last Scotland review. I guess i don't mind, not like i'm selling Daka or Mwepu anyway.

4:0 victory against Roma. After five games in Group B, I've scored 19 goals and conceded 0. Everton and Forest favourites to win the Champions Cup.

Forgot to rotate for the cup game, so naturally only narrowly win despite dominating for the second time in a row, and naturally for second time in a row the keeper got a MOTM....

Kimmich sent off 44 minutes in, so naturally I beat City 1:0. Next three domestic games are going to be tough without him. I expect I'll be knocked out of the Shield, and Forest will be top by the end of the third one - which coincidentally is away to Forest.

2:0 win against Ipswich Town. With the injuries and suspensions I've had, it is a miracle I'm top - never mind five points clear. Alas, whenever I get a lead, I face Nottingham Forest and always, without fail, lose to them in those circumstances.
