The Second RedCafe Sheep Draft

@Skizzo say I pick two players from a match who had 3 players carded, 1 pass and 1 fail. Will I have to pick the third player from that match in round 3 even though he might've been picked or I will know if he was picked or not than I'll be able to take a player from the same round of matches?

Boris basically did the same play as harms with Falcao, avoid the one that will definitely get blocked and block their natural partners so no other fecker gets into your game. Very clever, so long as you are happy with one of the two and the third choice, which in this case is absolutely fine. Proven pair as well...

Aye, they would have been a vote magnet. Looking to play 3 at the back at the moment, Thuram would have been a good fit for right centre back but hopefully the other guy will have a similar enough impact on the look of the team.

Good move, no doubt. I approve of the stratagem.

Boris has to be declared the overall winner of the two, though - his fallback option is clearly better than harms'.

It's not about the "quality", it's about philosophy (yes, with Van Gaal's voice). I love my fallback option, he fits my theme, which I'm hoping to do this time
@MJJ is a greedy feck though

Don't remember what's Boris' fallback option is though, still on the phone

 If that pick had gone through

Am not fecking about with strategy though, just going for the first one that comes to mind.

There's one pair in particular that is cracking that I missed and has seemingly gone through; well done to whoever's picked that up.

The problem is the perception of that Brazilian side not being much cop at the back, but he actually won the Bola d'Ouro in 1975.

The Bola d'Ouro is awarded to the player with the highest average rating over the season. Just have a look at who else won it in that decade, or who his League XI teammates were and you'll get a good idea of how impressive that actually is. Three of them would be nailed on starters in a final (one being Falcao, who won it twice).

Maybe a neutral could help Skizzo with the results unveiling only, to speed up the draft a bit?

If @Skizzo wants help, he (or the managers, whoever started the conversation) can add me to the sheepdraft conversations and I'll help him. I guess especially the morning reveal after the 2nd round is a bit of a problem for him in his time-zone.

That would be much appreciated Balu if Skizzo is fine with it

If we're talking harms' guy (did he win the Bola d'Ouro?), he's always had a bit of a reputation for me - there's this story that he was picked over an obviously better choice just because Santana was a stubborn feck, etc. And, yes, there is obviously the fact that the Brazilian defence as such ain't that highly rated. Was known as a good penalty catcher, if memory serves - but too shaky overall.

Santana was a stubborn feck indeed, although I''m not sure they had a better keeper TBH. The best defensive unit in Brazil was São Paulo's and two of the three made up that core, the all-too-important missing piece being the Uruguayan idolised by São Paulo fans. I picked him in the 50s draft, but probably didn't sell him well enough, I was actually shocked back in June when I went to the Uruguay-England game, a fair share of the fans flocking to the stadium were São Paulo fans wearing shirts which were half São Paulo, half-Uruguay, with his name on the back. Thirty years later. Amazing.

Spoiler for the name-sensitive in here

edit: I'm stupid

Too early to start selling your players anyway

That it is. Some players are like that, though - they just capture the hearts of the fans completely. Usually because they're bloody good (as well as having other qualities, mind), which he undoubtedly was.

I'd say that he is pretty great, especially when you consider that the star moments for keepers here are penalty shoot-outs and he was a specialist.

The negative spin on that would be...where did he play? What was the general level of keepers in the league (and the country)? Did Brazil have a bit of a problem bringing through genuinely top class keepers? And so forth.

But he was no doubt a penalty specialist - I'll give you that, and it is a very good thing too in this context.

PS As Stobz says...names. Better edit that post, mate.

Yeah, but it takes someone really special for Braziilians, during a WC in Brazil, after all the Maracana ghost stuff, to go around wearing that shirt. But yeah, he was indeed, I always lamented the shitty managers we had in the 80s and that stupid rule whereby foreign-based players weren't called up. He was the NT captain aged 19 (nineteen), as a number 8, which may explain the love too: he was always the best defender on the pitch by a mile, the leader of the team, yet had the silks of an attacking midfielder...

The joy of having your pair sorted, eh? Show off!
Yeah, it's a nice feeling of being safe this time, I forgot that half of the managers are still on the edge and, well, the draft is very much ongoing :nono:

This is awesome. I just realised how much fun Skizzo must be having knowing the picks and seeing the chaos unfold :D.

Added Balu to the convo with Skizzo.
It would be good to have the 10PM results (1st and 3rd picks) to be announced by Skizzo and the 10Am (2nd pick) by Balu.

What's all this convo business, eh? Smells of corruption to me, Poe - I will report this to the proper authorities. That being Blatter's mum (an excellent woman, and fairly uncorrupt(ed) too).

By the way, @antohan - regarding Santana's stubbornness (and the keeper situation in particular): There's plenty to discuss there (a good story or two as well), but I suggest we put it on hold until the drafting is done with, so we can name names freely.

It will fit in nicely with the plan to ruin every match thread with keeper talk...

Yeah, it must be loads of fun, but I also like the waiting and built up anxiety, particularly not having any skin in it!
