Any two players from a game, from the same or different sides.
Oh, that makes this quite easy, then. I thought we were required to only pick teams from different sides.

Now both players don't know they have chosen the same match, right?
- Player A can choose Charles, and Player B Joe which would again result in 'Already picked' block.
- Player A can choose Charles, while Player B can go for Jing-Yu....in which Player A gets royally screwed as his next pick will also be blocked...but Player B wins 2nd pick.
The additional complications is that Jing-Yu can be chosen by another manager from a different match.
Of..This is devious !!
I can imagine Skizzo like:

It does open up loads of options. I think quite a few position GOATs will squeeze through in this round.
My premise was Joe had only ever beeen carded in that game, so the moment he was blocked you know you are coexisting in it.
In any case, the corolary is that if you ever pick a game with four* or more carded players the round becomes irrelevant as you will never get out of the game itself, and hopefully you aren't trapped in it with some other numpty blocking each other all the way to a sheep.
*so long as they aren't blocked beforehand
you can pick a player from the same round in the tournament. so opens a lot of options-What happens if, due to blocking, you get one player through and there is nobody else unblocked whom they share a card in a game with. Is your 2nd player a sheep?
Or get blocked.
And what happens if one of the carded players in the match is already in the blocked list? Would you make them choose it again? Or only unblocked players should be picked before moving to next match. E.g Beckenbauer here.

not enough time for a through research, considering time zonesA 12 hr deadline should be sufficient for all rounds imo!
we have another 14 hours right?Have 7 turned in so far.

No way. The second phase of this round will be from 9 pm to 9 am for me, for example - and I'm going out of the city (to drink mostly, feck the nature), without my laptop. What if I were to research the World Cup bookings - with a few hours left, drunk and on the phone with a shitty reception? 24 hours is fine for the first phase. For the second and third one it's fine, you can submit your picks beforehand anyway.A 12 hr deadline should be sufficient for all rounds imo!
There are some lethal combinations out there if someone gets lucky and isn't blocked.
I actually think this criterion came a bit too early. Still too many goats available. It would have been a better fit after one or two more rounds with a few more goats blocked. It really could upset the balance of the teams if someone gets lucky here. Imagine NM adding a 2nd goat to Puskas, it could be game over if he doesn't take too many risks in the following rounds.
Should be fun though .
Too much "X should pick Y" talks for a sheep draft
After Puskas he deserves a sheet, the cnut!

My sheep is making me rethink my priorities.
Unless you get more of the wooly sort, you don't actually have to play him - I presume there will be 12 man squads here.
Then again, in a more general, philosophical sense, the idea of sheep (and goats, not least) can easily make a man question the very fundamentals of existence.
Hopefully.Making my sheep now.
Meant pick!Hopefully.
