The Referee Enabled Shithousery of Spanish Teams

The football culture there is really rotten. Doesn't help that the head of the referees there for 2 decades was compromised.

The Spanish teams are pretty bad at these type of things but let's be honest here, we're no better. Bruno rolls around in fake agony more than any other player I've seen. Garnacho is at it too.

I am worried I am becoming blinkered in my views whenever I notice this - but surely I was not alone in thinking that everytime there's even a half challenge, the Sociedad players love rolling around while violently flailing their limbs and screaming like they are being flayed alive? This is not strictly off the thread title, since the ref hasn't bought it yet, but God do the Spaniards celebrate their exaggerated playacting. It is quite revolting.

There seemed to be a passage of play where we won a challenge at the edge of our box and started a counter, and the player who lost the challenge was screaming and rolling - right uptill the moment they won it back, when he suddenly found the miraculous strength to get up and get ready for a run for a transition.

The problem is that in the post-VAR era, a lot of diving has been legitimised due to the clear and obvious bar. Just look at Alan Shearer defending the Ashley Young dive and suggesting that the VAR shouldn’t have gotten involved. Same guy suggesting in the Fulham game that the Bassey pull on Chido Obi was stopped in time to avoid concession of a penalty. People have become inconsistent in their own heads and the days of punishing divers are long gone. Divers are the real heroes today.

The future generations, if not doing already, would be taking training lessons to see how they can drag their legs and maximise contact to win penalties. Teams would strategise how to chase referees so VAR pays attention to the minimal contact (see Hojlund on Rodri from last season as a shocker of a clear and obvious error). I see that a lot of our fans and almost all of our players have even lost the will to complain against this. The only way is to counter shithousery with a version of our own. Bruno’s frustrating antics or Maguire’s sad emoji face aren’t good enough to create pressure on the referees. We have to get better at it one way or another.

Someone hasn't been keeping on top of things
yeah; those idle spaniards.

i appreciate they’ve tried to rectify it by importing handsome frenchman with a penchant for shite films about killer tyres, but it’s not enough.

Until FIFA and UEFA stop being biased towards countries like Spain especially, nothing will change.
