The Redcafe Top 100 movies

This list is incorrect. Godfather II is in no way better than the original Godfather. You'll have to start it all over again, I'm afraid.

I've just realised that Godfather II is the one I prefer. I was mixing the Godfather films up with the Rocky films, and I HATE Rocky 2.

Godfather II > Godfather.

At least mine is done and out there, I can site back and call you all cnuts now.

I don't think the list is too bad, it was only thrown together in a couple of hours to be honest, so I could have put a bit more thought into it, but feck it it's done.

Still getting over the shock of them re-making Manhunter, the original was fecking brilliant and not even old enough to warrant a re-make in the first place, let alone making a shit one.

Big Kubrick fan then, Rednome?

Guess the foreign film fans have yet to cast their votes, judging by the lists so far.

Love Kubrick, probably my favorite director if I had to pick one.

I've got loads of Foreign films downloaded and waiting to watch just didn't have the time before making this list, so I'm sure a lot of them have missed out on this list.

I'll update at some point down the line, but this will be a work in progress untill the day I die, or untill the day I stop watching films at least.

Heh. Not enough Asian movies for your liking, I bet. I wanted to put A Tale of Two Sisters in there but ran out of spots. Lots of Hitchcock and Kubrick as expected. 12 spots (6 each) taken by the two of them.

I've got loads of Hitchcock films and all in my list. Watched Lady Vanishes and Spellbound today. Both fantastic, but LV was my fav of the two. Great entertainment, although it took my almost 30mins to get into it.

(and Tale of Two Sisters won't make my list)

Haven't seen those two. Also Notorious. I wanted to put 39 steps in there too but again ran out of spots.

39 Steps was brilliant, but I'm not sure it's British humour would have a broad appeal compared to his others films. Notorious was excellent and all, basically it was a Noir/Romance. I'll probably have both on my list.

I've got Ran on my list, along with Hidden Fortress, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Yojimbo, Sanjuro. . .and I've yet to see Dreams and Ikiru. Kagemusha, though very good wasn't as good as those.

Decent list but where is Shawshank Redemption? I know you and Spooney dislike it but it should still make a top 100 list, I mean come on Die Hard and Lion King are better than Shawshank? Also as a LOTR fan I'm suprised that the only movie you included was The Two Towers, I thought that was the worst of the three. I'd also make room for Schindlers List, Hotel Rwanda, Forest Gump, The Worlds Fastest Indian, The Pianist and Snatch. Well done on Once were Warriors though.

No one has mentioned Prince of Thieves, you're all classless morons (that was the tree pic I posted earlier of course, if GG still posted here, she'd have got it)

Gladiator above La Haine?? Lion King???

Gash.

That's a good point. And Gladiator shouldn't anywhere near anyone's top 100.

I totally forgot about La Haine and put it in last minute. Might make a couple of changes later. Lion King stays. A great movie for kids. I think I only have 4 animated movies.

The Jungle Book and Snow White. They shouldn't have been omitted.

Snatch and Forrest Gump don't deserve to be in any top 100. As for LOTR, TT was by far the best. Return of the King was a joke of a film, however.

It depends what you class as a good movie. Gladiator might be just a fantastic action film but it does what it is meant to really really well. And I am a huge sucker for good cinematography and quite a few bits of that film are stunningly good cinematography. The hand through the barley is one of my favorite images from film.

Snatch was great fun but I'm not sure it would make my top 100. LOTR was great entertainment that could well make my top 100 but I tend to think of it as 1 very long film. Very similar to Gladiator in many ways in that it is a fun tale theatrically told.

I actually think Two Towers(movie) bettered the book.

Good list, mehro. Although I agree with the rest about The Lion King. It's one of my favourite Disney films, but I wouldn't have it in the top 100. In fact, there's at least a couple of other Ghibli films other than Spirited Away that should be in that list ahead of the Lion King.
I'm surprised to see Sunset Boulevard isn't on your list! Have you seen Solyaris?

On subject of animation...the only two which will make it on mine are Toy Story and Fantasia.

Fantasia won't make my list purely because I didn't enjoy watching it enough irrespective of its qualities.

The Lion King doesn't stand out that much when considered against the excellent quality of recent kids animation but you forget that when it was released that it had been forever since decent quality feature animation had been made. Disney had descended into piss poor quality animation such as The Aristocats.

agree re Fantasia, I didn't enjoy it as well. The Jungle Book will always be my favourite Walt Disney, I still don't think it's been bettered by WD.

How about an extension? I propose a 5th January deadline. Besides I don;t think Hammer'll be back at college/uni prior to that date.

Two that don;t seem to get a mention - The Warriors and Mad Max, both great films. Oh Event Horizon, Geebs? that's one of the worst movies ever made.

Best films, though(well Best of the one's you've seen) Geebs, not necessarily the ones that you enjoyed most.
