The Redcafe Top 100 movies: Discussion and Preparation

I have it narrowed down to about 150 films.

Plus the ones i have forgotten about and minus the ones I don't really rate but can't quite bring myself to delete from my list.

That was quick. We have until 31st Dec. We were hoping to make recommendations to each other during this period.

So far, Dr. Dwayne has recommended Taboo (Japanese I think) and I've recommended Come and See.

I've recommended:

In the Mood for Love
Raise the Red Lantern
Dolls
Fallen Angels
Ichi the Killer
Visitor Q
Rainy Dog
Woman of the Dunes.

As for Marco, I think we could stretch it and stick him on the panel. Also, I had forgotten about ILLB5.

So that's two more. But that's it now. No more.

As for me, I've yet to see these classics:

Casablanca
12 Angry Men
Sunset Boulevard
M
To Kill a Mocking Bird
Metropolis.

I haven't read this, but I'm assuming Caddyshack is up there.

Raging Bull
Seven
American Psycho
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Amélie
The Thing
Swimming With Sharks

hold on gays, i thought the idea was the top 100 movies not your top 100 favourite movies. all the movies on my list so far i can give good reason why i feel they should be there, can you say the same for yours other than you like the movie?

eg. A Bridge too Far
WW2 movie directed by Richard Attenborough based on true events. Not only does the movie go down as a great war movie, it had quite possibly the best line up of actors ever assembled in one movie before or since. Dirk Borgarde, James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Elliott Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Ryan ONeal, Laurence Olivier, Robert Redford, Maximillian Schell, Denholm Elliott all had parts in this one movie. I dont think we will ever see a cast like that again in 1 movie

did you see "amores perros"? another great mexican movie with that garcia bernal actor

here´s the imdb.com link for that movie:

http://spanish.imdb.com/title/tt0245712/

Seen it. Loved the first story. Could give a toss about the model and her fecking dog, however.

Oh, Abre los ojos was very good, though. As for other Spanish(language) films, I've seen recently, I thought El Topo was fantastic.

Yes, best 100 films(in our opinion). What makes you think otherwise?

where's that list?

if that list is in this same thread pretend you didn't read this post

or at least try not to call me "idiot" or "cnut"

abre los ojos was about the ballet dancer that has an accident and the male nurse rapes her?

if that's so, i was with one of the actors -he's an argentinian- last month in madrid

Films that were ground-breaking and became very influential should be high on any top 100 list.

because some very obscure movies are being mentioned. Have they had an impact on the movie world worth noting or are they just the authors favourite movies?

You can;t just name the top 100 most popular movies, though. In the end it is a list of the best 100 films. That said if we're talking about influential and ground breaking movies then Kurosawa and Hitchcock will have loads in the top 40. Also I think it's important that the selection is diverse as possible, for example, French New Wave has produced some brilliant movies, Japanese Cinema in the 50's and 60's was probably the most important in the world. I think most of the panellist have an eclectic taste, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The Wizard of Oz (1939)
a musical, yes a musical in my list. Its hard to find another old movie that stands the test of time like this one. Pure fantasy that has entertained kids at Christmas for over 60 years. Off course in the last few years there have been arguments over some of the symbolism in the movie but this just adds to the movie and gives people another talking point. They certainly dont make them like this anymore.

A few films for consideration that might not be on everyone's top 100:

Cidade de Deus (City of God)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Magnolia
Hable con ella (Talk to Her)
Nausicaä
Grave of the Fireflies

Mullholand drive should be in the top ten

else, the list is a worthless piece of shite!!!

FACT!!!!!

I hated Mulholland drive except for the girl on girl scenes. I liked David Lynch's Elephant Man though. I think Lynch deserves a spot in the top 100, even if his movies aren't for everybody.

it's really difficult to understand the plot, and even if you do, there are a lot of things you missed
but i think it was a great movie
