Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

The Lotus

In the not so distant future, biochemical technology has advanced in unexpected ways. Unfortunately, it has fallen into the hands of the wrong man, a brilliant young biochemist by the name.

Just dont it is dreadful.

0/10

The nun
A very loud 100 minute long jump scare reel with lots of upside down crosses.

How does my wife keep convincing me to see these dumb kind of movies
3/10

Solo A Star Wars Story.

It was not has bad as I expected , enjoyed the story of Han and Chewie getting together and how Han won the Falcon.
It was not a classic, but it is not the worst.
If you are a Star Wars fan yeah you will like it , if not then dont , you wont.

5/10

Guessing you aren't a star wars fan then giving it a 5?

quite the opposite, I am a huge Star Wars fan , just have to look for my reviews on here about them, but this was just OK , had some good parts had some bad parts.
All it really did was tell us how Han meet Chewie and how he got won the Falcon and how he did the Kessla run.
I want more of the growing up , more of how he came to be the man he was.

From what I understand it was meant to be an origin story, so what you wanted was mean to come after. Whether that ever happens now is doubtful. Shame because I liked the film and thought Alden Ehrenreich had the right chemistry. Just so happened to be lost in a chaotic filming that resulted in the film feeling disjointed with some... odd bits added.

A 5 is generous, if you ask me. The worst of all the Disney Star Wars movies (which have generally been ok to good IMO) Boooooooring. Also bizarrely dark. Lighting, that is, not themes.

Tom and Jerry I can manage but there are some parts of Roadrunner where I have to duck behind the couch.

Yup, so it seems. Was gonna go watch Blackkklansman at the cinema but timings no good so Get Out at home it is.

Cheers!

I watched it. It wasn't scary. It wasn't that good either. Reasonable but maybe I was expecting too much.

Legion
When a group of strangers at a dusty roadside diner come under attack by demonic forces, their only chance for survival lies with an archangel named Michael, who informs a pregnant waitress that her unborn child is humanity's last hope. Starts off really well, loved the setup. But as soon as the inciting incident happens, it all falls apart. The sections between the action were also really boring. Shame as I really liked the first third 4/10

Mara

Criminal psychologist Kate Fuller is assigned to the murder of a man who has seemingly been strangled in his sleep by his wife and the only witness is their eight-year-old daughter. I've seen so many shit to mediocre horror films about sleep paralysis, strange considering it's something that could make for a terrifying movie. This falls into the mediocre pile. Whilst I didn't hate the plot, the acting was generally quite poor and so much exposition. The ending was lame too 4/10

The Predator
We all knew it was going to be shit, but we didn't realise it would we this truly tremendously shit.

I left the cinema angry, and the last time that happened was with Independence Day 2. There are too many reasons to mention and I've already wasted too much time tonight feeling shit about having spent money to see this abomination. Shane Black deserves to be eviscerated, how could someone who was a part of the original classic be responsible for this?

Rating: Go f*ck yourself Shane Black/10

Mandy (2018) : watch this one when you are high, its made to be watched when high.
Loved the use of colors and the lighting.
Nick Cage with a role that suits him to a tee. It's a weird arse movie, but I enjoyed it
7/10

Searching 2018 : wow, did not expect that. Knew nothing about the movie or the plot, decided to give it a watch because of my friend's insistence.
Probably the most intelligent thriller of the year so far and probably the best computer-screen movie ever. Made on what I'm guessing is a very small budget, the movie is driven by strong performances and intelligent story telling. It's emotional, fast paced and sticks the landing.
Highly recommended : 8/10

I really hate how they're absolutely butchering popular movie concepts or franchises. I don't know why.

Actually a bit surprised that it's getting such a panning. Expected at least a decent script with Black on board. Did he write the script?

Sicario: Day of something something: Disappointing, never needed a sequel. Pointless plot with no real meaning and a cheap ending. Del Toro saved it. bad coke/10

The Predator
Ashamed to say that I sort of enjoyed it. Some cringey moments, but I laughed a few times and the action, all though a bit over the top and lacking any sort of emotional weight was sort of satisfying to watch.

Honestly already forgot most of the plot.

6.5/10

Mission Impossible: Fallout
You know what you're getting with this franchise. All out action, great stunts and a decent enough plot. Delivered on all fronts. Had a really good time and the 2.5 hours flew by 7.5/10

Mandy

Mandy is set in the primal wilderness of 1983 where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life. Bat shit crazy movie with Nic Cage uncaged. Perfect role for him. The visual style was mesmerizing and the music composition was fantastic. This felt like a love child from a threesome between David Lynch, H.P. Lovecraft and Nicholas Winding Refn. Very trippy, you'll feel like your on acid. Could have been paced a little better though as the setup does take it's sweet time. Nonetheless, really enjoyable revenge flick 8/10

He says he did, but I think he just smeared shite on a page then called it a day. It's one of the dumbest films I've ever seen, barely anything in it makes any sense. It's just random crap.

Incident In A Ghostland.

Very good horror I thought, quite tense and good twists. 8/10

The Meg
A film that pits Jason Statham against a giant Megalodon shark should be waaaay more wacky, insane and fun but this is quite tame due to it's PG rating. Shamelessly pandering to the Chinese market, the film just didn't hit the crazy heights the premise suggests. Bingbing Li plays the most annoying character I have seen in a good few years but the film's saving grace is Statham. Always love watching him in action. He feels like the more organic version of The Rock. All in all, some fun set pieces that would have let for a better film if the producers were brave enough to go for an R rating 5/10

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
The crew of a horror web series travels to an abandoned asylum for a live broadcast. It soon encounters much more than expected as it moves deeper inside the nightmarish old building. I'm quite a fan of found footage films when done right and I heard this Korean take on the sub-genre was a good, creepy movie and it definitely did not disappoint!

Yes, you have that usual first act where they introduce the characters and nothing of note happens but that's what you get with these films and I'm on board with that. Once it gets going though, it's truly one of the better FF films. Doesn't rely too much on gore or cheap scares, instead focusing on an eerie locations and purely tense atmosphere. Some of the actual jump scares didn't quite work but the lead up to them were done with aplomb! Really enjoyed this one.

The subtitles however must have been written by someone taking the absolute piss... made no sense at all! Luckily, the plot was easy enough to decipher. There was a bit when they're running from some ghost and one of the characters apparently says "where are my guava berries" 7.5/10

The Predator.
After reading so many horrific reviews of this on here and elsewhere, I watched this thinking it really was just going to be truly awful. I was wrong it was much, much worse than that. Just an absolute mess from start to finish.
Only positives were I did actually manage to last the whole film - the ending was quite funny but sad in the overall context of these movies - and I watched it at home instead of wasting time and money going to the cinema. I would give the picture I watched it on 7/10, pretty good but sadly the film scored nowhere near that.
An absolute turkey. 1/10 - the one is for the unintentionally funny "twist" ending.

We warned you mate

I know, but I honestly didn't expect it to be anywhere near as bad as it actually was. Bad enough just on its own "merits" alone, but in terms of the Predator series of films it was an abomination.
Most are abominations though.
You expect them to be completely crap these days

That bullshit on the end though...
he practically survived being shot on the face point blank. Has enough to walk a few miles and drive
..and he's going to train the kid who shot him in the face

Oh well, still liked it somehow.

Watched Gravity a few weeks back. Genuinely give it a 1/10. The film has no redeeming features whatsoever. Awful.

Was good in the cinema, purely for the 3D spectacle on the big screen. Was the best use of 3D ever in my opinion.

The First Purge
Another example of a horror franchise being milked way too far. Very heavy handed, uninteresting and just boring. A premise like this should be chaotic fun, instead it feels super laboured. Worst of a series of films that aren't that great to begin with 3/10

Free Solo
100 minute documentary on Alex Honnold's solo free climb in 2017 of the 3,200 feet granite wall that is El Capitan. There are several heart-stopping moments, recorded on film by Jimmy Chin, one of the climbers who made Meru. Truly remarkable by Honnold - one of the great sporting moments.
10/10 just for the achievement.
