Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Am I right in thinking that Cher (aged 72) plays the mother of Meryl Streep (aged 69)

?

1974: La Posesion De Altair
A newlywed couple disappeared in 1974, their 8mm tapes reveal one of the most horrifying events in Mexican history. I'm quite a fan of found footage when done right and also enjoy a good possession movie so when I saw the trailer for this, I was super excited. But this reminded me how deceiving trailers can be sometimes. Whilst the film was decent and had a great style (8mm is very creepy in found footage format), it had the usual problems that usually accompany this sub-genre. The end also was a WTF moment. Completely from left-field and felt so tacked on. Regardless, I enjoyed it, better than most found footage and possession films I have seen recently. Just didn't live up to the trailer 7/10

Loved it. Legit the only scary horror movie I've seen for years.

That scene where she is stabbing herself in the cnut..ffs

I enjoyed it.

You know what you're going to get with them and in my opinion it delivered. What did you think was shite?

I mean, it was a mission impossible film. I sat through it and was entertained.

The dialogue was so god damn spoofy this time though, Luther and Benji were tragic with every word, it was laying it on so thick.

I remember the last few being a bit cooler.

Still a solid 6/10 though; Henry was good and that Asian lad who handed them their asses I enjoyed. Probably should have given your woman from the Crown more time - she was good.

I can't remember much about the dialogue to be honest.

A film has just gone from shite.....to 6/10 in less than 2 posts. That's some flipflop.

Unbreakable
Still enjoy this. A little over directed but an amazing movie 8/10
I tried watching this last night and the camerawork and attempts at being different for differents sake was really irritating. I haven’t decided whether to go back and finish it or not.

The Incredible Hulk
Edward Norton looks like he came from the pages of Peter David and Dale Keown's Hulk, perfect Bruce Banner. Much preferable to fecking Ruffalo. Hulk himself was kinda boring, never was a fan of mindless brute. Also, the film is pretty devoid of humour, and I think I liked that here.

All in all, one of the better ones in the MCU.

Yeah this is exactly what I mean over directed. Gets better though

Brazil

Bonkers but absolutely brilliant. Funny satire but also as bleak as 1984 etc.

Space Raptors don't infuriate the alt-right man-children, for one. Although they must have found a female veterinarian vexing.
Because only "alt-right man-children" hated that piece of trash film The Last Jedi right

#Notarealchristmasmovie

But yeah it's brilliant.

Having only really been aware of its dystopian aspects and general weirdness before watching, I was taken aback at how genuinely funny and quotable it was throughout. Can see Gilliam's Monty Python-type stuff shining through in that respect.

Rough Night - One of the worst and unfunny "comedies" I've seen in a very long time. Feckin' awful.

Watched half of this last night, got the other half to go tonight. Seen it before a while back, but really enjoying it this time around. Agree with you that Norton is really good as Banner, also liked the lack of humour - the Hulk in the newer films is more of a caricature in comparison. Really good soundtrack too.

I didn't realise until recently that Split is in a way a sequel to Unbreakable. That's well worth a watch if you enjoyed the first film.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans 8/10
Oh My. How have I not heard of, nor seen this movie. It's absolute trip and now one of my favourite Nicolas Cage movies. he's brilliant throughout as a drug addled cop. Plus he's hanging out of Eva Mendes in it which is a bonus. Also: Chameleons/Lizard. WTF?

Wish I had watched it high.

Don't do that with the original 90s movie.

TIL About another Bad Lieutenant. Is it any good?
I enjoyed it(If you can even use that word with this film), it's lot more grim and religious(It's basically a christian redemption story) than the remake and Harvey Keitel performance is very different to Cages. But yeah it's worth watching just to see the differences between the two films.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain
Great movie, funny, witty and you feel right high brow for having seen it.

9/10

je ne suis pas un homme facile
Trailer looked good. Ended up being a weird semi comedy semi critical movie. Not sure what to think of it.

6.5/10

We did a French night.

And this is the next sequel

Anyone seen 'Ghost Town' with Ricky Gervais?

I did, worked in a video shop when they were a thing and seen it about 5 times. Its pretty crap. Depends on your appetite for Ricky Gervais I guess. Its a pretty run of the mill romantic comedy. Ricky Gervais is meant to be charming and funny and handsome which is a pretty hard sell.

Cancelling my download right now.

I found Dunkirk to be very boring. I wouldn't be surprised if the first 30 minutes contained literally 30 spoken sentences.

I wouldn't be surprised if the entire film was around that mark. I thought it was pretty terrible. Kind of pretty in parts and the sound was 10/10. But it felt like an exercise in movie making rather than telling a story. Something made for film students to pick apart over 20 viewings rather than something as crass as enjoyment
