Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Best film of all time is The Van, everyone knows that.

Didnt know he had a Autobiographical Film out

They're all differently themed films man regardless of similar bloodshed or emotional content. To say one is better than the other is maybe down to your own personal enjoyment / preference of a type of film. Maybe you're not particularly a Gangster / Mob film fan?!

Its all about opinion though
Of course it's all opinion and i love gangster movies, Casino, Goodfellas, Scarface also check out Takeshi Kitano's Yakuza films.

Caché (hidden)

French intense thriller that starts off at a slow pace but intrigues you as the story slowly unwinds. A film that has you asking questions, a film to make you think and for that i award it 8/10

Some shocking moments and a film i could easily watch again as it is quite difficult to follow, of course it is supposed to be like that and i like that about it.

Good man - cant beatem eh?!

Yeah, Direction-wise, i've seen a good few of his flicks - some great shit goin on there

Actor-wise - "Battle Royale" is fecked up beyond all recognitition & as actor / director: Boiling Point is sweet-as :D

Has anyone seen "Switchblade Romance". Its French & fecking fecked up feckness at its fecking finest - get in :D

You seen Amelie and The Diving bell And The Butterly? Those are two very good films and both different types to.

Might check out this Switchblade flick!

It's a good fecking movie up until the end. The end completely ruins it.

Yeah seen Amelie - in the cinema with an ex-bird actually. Liked it quite a bit. She's all-round beautiful in that film!

I havent seen "The Diving Bell & the Butterly" though. I've just googled it though & its a fascinating story & as you say - very different to Amelie. Will have to check that out!

Yeah, make sure you check out "Switchblade Romance" man, its bad ass shit & has a really good twist. Might be a good one for you & the other half or the lads to watch over halloween weekend. I rate it highly

It has a stupid as feck, cliched twist.

Suppose the twist(s) at the end of "Old Boy" were cliched aswell Ole?
Completely different.

one crazy woman being the killer
and
a guy tricking a guy to having sex and falling in love with his daughter out of revenge

are completely different.

I would have liked Switchblade Romance(or Haute Tension as I know it), had they not tried to be too clever. It was a brilliant bit of horror til the twist.

Thats your opinion man, but your spoiler doesnt sum up what actually goes on in the eyes of the viewer - well the eyes of anyone I know thats watched it!

I guess folk are gonna have to watch it for themselves. Hope they didnt have a peak at Ole's spoiler though, because thats the flick ruined!

I encourage people to watch it, because 90% of it is an excellent movie.

I encourage people to watch it, because as RHD has said, 100% of it is an excellent movie & the ending / twist is exceptional - far better than that pish "Old Boy".

Good man - I knew you'd see my view & wholehearted sense :smirk: :D

Steady on about "Old Boy" though old chap - thats not accurate whatsoever. Dont listen to Ole's views on the twist(s) of "Old Boy" - its equally as good as "Switchblade Romance" - if not better in my opinion :nono:  :smirk: :D

Anyone watched The age of stupid?

I liked the way that rather than just saying we're causing global warming it castigated us for our general waste and its effect on our oil resources. Negatively I thought it tried to cover too many subjects all of which were important though, didn't really think much of the pete postlethwaite character either, seemed a little forced and condescending.

Revolutionary Road

Sam Mendes hasn't done a bad film yet as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't even say he has done an average one either. Winslet and Di Caprio both give 100% and are utterly convincing as a young couple in love who are struggling to find a way out from the situation they've become trapped in.

Emotionally draining and quite depressing, but a great film.

8.5/10

I was a bit disappointed, it was good but I think it wasn't fully developed, he didnt miss by much but I think an extra 15 minutes would have done the film a world of good

Moon One of the better sci-fi films of recent years and made on a small budget by Hollywood standards - about 5 mill. The makers state that they intended to make it a homage to sci-fi films of the 70's and 80's and if I have a criticism it is that it is more a copy at times than a homage. It feels like Silent Running meets 2001 with a few concepts from Blade Runner thrown in for good measure. But I nit pick because it is a fascinating watch with a superb performance from Sam Rockwell. 8.5/10

Surrogates The idea had promise and maybe the Japanese comic that inspired it had greater depth. It wouldn't be hard because if you have seen a trailer then you have seen the entire plot including the climax less than 4 minute before the end of the film. A waste of an hour and a half for 16x the budget of Moon - 80 mill. I want my 90 minutes back please. 1.5/10

Me too, would be wise to re-sticky it, but it does get action pretty much everyday so it is always on the first page of the entertainment forum

I keep forgetting to review movies.

Movies seen recently:

How to Steal a million - audrey hepburn looking her best. Her black and white movies really did no justice to her. Breakfast at Tiffanys, Charade and How To Steal a Million are the ones where you can really see her beauty. Decent movie too. Security measures were really poor in museums back then.

Roman Holiday - Decided to watch it again immediately after watching How To and have come to the conclusion that this movie is really overrated. Total chick flick.

Beckett - Couldn't finish it. To be continued.

Sabrina - More Audrey. Great cast, great director, great movie. I love that shot when she leaves Bogart's office towards the end. Classic shot in the dark. I'm going to get hold of more William Holden movies. Excellent in this and Stalag 17.

Zombieland - Was expecting more. Wasnt as much fun as the trailers made it out to be.

Some other stuff that I saw recently but cant remember - 8/10

I can't believe this thread got unstickied, on behalf of some of the other stuff that's there.

I know the thread is so active it will stay on the first page anyways, but it's always been so safe and dependent. 1 thread on the entertainment forum.. <3.

Anways.

Den Osynlige

Good film, had its flaws, nice ending. 6,5/10

Then I watched the english version, The Invisible, a remake at it's worst. Changed the ending, left out important visual bits, made more action and even tried a little bit of horror somewhere in it. Complete commercial made disaster 1/10.

Here's a few quick ones that i can't be arsed to go into major detail over.
UP 7/10 Ok but not their best by a long shot. Sometimes just plain dull.

Terminator Salvation 8/10. Nowhere near as bad as everyone has made out. If you go into expecting just a dumb action sci fi then it's rewarding enough. If you go into it expecting it to elevate Camerons films then fo course you will greatly disappointed.

Duplicity 6/10 Not much to say really. Alright film i guess.

I found myself watching the film Barely Legal tonight, a teen film about three weirdoes making a pornofilm. It was really really bad, I thought it was a comedy, I'm still not sure if it was. And some of the actions in the film was completely impossible to understand before the specifically talked about that incident afterwards. They wouldn't need to do that if they had any idea of how to shoot a movie. Bad casting did a bad film from a terrible story. 1/10
