Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Oh and caught the second half of 3:10 To Yuma, really enjoyed it. Good acting and storyline, and I've only recently played Call Of Juarez so I was in a Westerny mood. Oh and it's impossible to look crap when playing a westerny cowboy person. 8.5/10

Not a movie but a tv series

Eastbound & Down - I decided to watch it as it's got Danny Mcbride in it who's a dude i find quite funny so i thought i'd give it ago. It's about an ex iconic baseball player who's now mid thirties and trying to sort his life out. You don't need to be into baseball to enjoy the series. I think it's a good funny series like a more adult version of My Name Is Earl. It's not life changing but it's good, you should check it out. 8/10

Just watched Gran Torino. Really liked it. Eastwood is very good in it, however the little kid who plays Tao is a terrible actor. Good ending too though not sure about Clint singing  8.5/10

Righteous Kill 4/10

De Niro and Pacino go through the motions. Disappointing. Underwhelming. A bit shit.

Public enemies - Started well but then dragged on and was quite boring at times. IMO it could have been much better.

6/10

The Good, The Bad and The Weird

Brilliant Korean semi parody. Bit mental, enjoyed the plot, pretty funny, loads of good action. My brother asked me why I was watching an Asian gangster Western with a Russian soundtrack near the beginning of the film which summed it up rather neatly. A high 8/10.

I finally got round to watching 'Let the Right One In' last night, great vampire film, although not traditional in the slightest. Some fantastically well filmed scenes and an interesting story.

I also watched about 15 mins of The Happening and had to delete it, a complete shower of shite.

Triple film review of justice (from last week)

Appaloosa

Western starring Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen and Renee Zelwegger. Absolute crap. I was in a western mood last week and usually it's a genre you can't go wrong with but this was painfully dull. The Zelwegger/Mortensen/Harris love traingle angle didn't work and the gun fights were crap. Appalalling.

3:10 to Yuma

Now this is more like it. Russell Crowe, Christian Bale and the awesome Ben Foster (not the goalie) in a Western that hit the spot. Bale played it quite low key, Crowe was the brooding badass and Foster was an excellent pyschopath. Couple of great shoot-outs although the ending might be a leap too far for some. Didn't bother me though. Shits on Appaloosa.

30 days of Night

Not a western but a vampire film where a group of Vampires decend on an Alaskan town that is about to go without Sun for a 30 day period. It started off well with a tense build up involving Ben Foster (again) playing a loony stranger and the initial attack was quite shocking (and violent) but sadly it soon decended into nonsense and far too many plot contrivences spoiled the party. Fairly average.

I heard that it makes Transformers 2 look like a wordy arthouse Hungarian black and white film.

I half watched the original Transformers the other night and it is a much better film than Transformers 2. It does at least pretend to have a plot and a few characters who are developed at least a little bit.

Stop using that and admit that you're a die hard Transformers fan.

The only reason I saw GI Joe was because I used to play with the toys as a kid. They'd been better off just showing 2 hours of the cartoon series.

Finally got round to seeing 'Eden Lake' - like 'Deliverance'...with Asbo's.

Effective primal horror with enough generic conventions met and subverted...last five minutes a bit contrived but disturbing throughout. Wonder if an American horror film would have pulled a few punches with similar subject matter?

8/10

I watched G.I. Joe. Meh, entertaining and stuffs, but again, just shit blows up, cool gadgets, and hot girls. That's about it.

And Sienna Miller is actually real hot.

5/10

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Disgustingly cheesy mainstream pile of crap. Kevin Smith's lost his shit. I'd rather take a dump on this movie than watch it. I couldn't even jerk off to this shite. There you go, I referred to poo four times and I didn't throw away 90 minutes of your lives. It gets a two just because of all the porno puns.

Yeah I didn't really like it, and I am usually a big fan of these type of comedies. I've just seen that Observe and Report as well from Seth Rogen- absolutely terrible, terrible movie

Is that the one in the 'mall'?

Looked slightly amusing in the trailers but I decided against watching it, not sure why now - maybe a bad review.

Yeah. I love Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, Role Models etc but this was just poor I thought. Not really many funny moments in it and Seth Rogen's character was pretty cringe worthy to be honest. The film just seemed like it was trying too hard to be funny, with cheesy lines that just came across as immature rather than actually being amusing. The end was just bizarre.

Saying that there was one line in it that made me laugh. 'I'm not ok Charles...and unfortunately no, this picture of a penis does not cheer me up' (the film is about a security guard trying to catch a flasher terrorising his mall)

You were planning to jerk off to this film?

Do you mean Mallrats? That's a great Kevin Smith comedy from 1994. This crap is no better than what I expect Maid in Manhattan or Crossroads to be like.

Observe and Report wasn't it? I was thinking of seeing it, the trailer made it look like an interesting dark comedy, but I was informed that it was even worse than the other mall cop comedy movie with the guy from King of Queens, so I didn't bother.

Also, Seth Rogan may have been in more movies than Samuel L Jackson and Tom Hanks combined, despite the fact he seems to have been big only for the last two years or so.

I thought it started off quite funny and descended into painful enforced chick flickery. Also lack of Elizabeth Banks' boobs ruined it further.
