Picked up Dragon Quests 6 and 9 on the DS from Argos, since they were cheap and I wanted to try out the DQ series.

What's the series like? I know it's quite influential in the makeup of RPGs but how does it compare to others?

I got DQ 6 a couple of years ago, but I've still hardly played it. I've got to try and get into it someday and try to finally understand how to play those kind of games.

I'm having issues with Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines on Steam. When i press play it says Error: Memory is less than 15mb. Meaning i can't play the game, anyone know how to get past this issue?

This may happen when you try to run Counter Strike on 64-bit OS. To solve this issue, simply:
  • Right click on the game shortcut, choose Properties, Compability,
  • Check "Run this program in Compability mode for": choose Windows XP SP2.

Different game but could be worth a shot.

EDIT: Or perhaps this - http://steamcommunity.com/app/2600/discussions/0/846955554769646955/

Don't know about the error, but a vastly underrated game! Make sure you get the mod that opens up the character histories too which gives more class options.

Day / Night cycles in games:

Started LA Noire a few hours ago. Pretty good so far, but the repetitiveness is a worry seeing how I'm still on the first disc. At the moment it's about a sevenish for me as it's pretty enjoyable, especially driving round and exploring, but if the cases and stuff are the same for the rest of the game then it might not stay that high.

So finally beat FTL last week after about 69 hours on Steam. Then proceeded to beat it another 3 times with different ships. Decided to buy iPad version and beat it 4 more times. Decided to try and beat it with every ship and the differ t layouts.

Amazing it took me so long to beat and now I consistently get the the mothership and beat it 3/4 of the time.

Still a brilliant game and should be held up as the main example of how to do a crowd funded game.

I watched some of Video Games: The Movie last night (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3214002/)

Haven't finished watching it, and although I think it could have been made / structured better, it was v cool to see so many old games that I played when I was younger!

With that in mind, what are people's first memories of video games / the first one they remembered playing?

Mine was:

I believe it was this one...

Roland in the Caves (1984) on Amstrad. Played with bunch of other kids in the library during the video-game hour. Later got the amazing ZX Spectrum 48k, so said goodbye to long waits between gaming!

First console I got was the NES and those were the two games I got with it. I reckon SMB was the first I played, but I can't really remember. Definitely played Mario more, I do know that though.

The first videogame played, I can't really remember, must have been Sonic, Mario or one of the usual suspects on a mates Sega/Nintendo, maybe Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, or even Mortal Kombat.

First gaming things I owned?

Either this....

Or, if anyone remembers these things(struggling to even find them on Google), those machines that were pretty much really fat controllers you plugged directly into your tv, and would have 100-150 games all installed, knockoffs of Pitfall and Superman, various Atari stuff, Space Invaders, etc, etc....

My first earliest memories were this which was my older brothers:

And moon lander on Windows 3.1 - great fun. Also the monkey banana throwing game in DOS - also great fun.
