The Redcafe Decades Draft Tournament

I can't play Eusebio behind Ronaldo, no one will see it, not enough anyway. It would be a horrendously disappointing game.

Which means I have to choose between dropping Eusebio or Carlos Alberto and I don't want to drop either of them.

I want a 100% 40s team goddammit!

You'd think there's enough distribution in there with Scholes, Sammer and Scirea to get the ball to Gento and Cristiano.

Ruud does feel a bit superflous in that formation though. He'll hardly get a sniff of the ball.

How highly is Carlos Alberto even rated on the Caf?

:wenger:

My problem is if I were to go through then I would either have a choice of Pelé or Maradona (eventually) and I would like Pelé behind Eusebio but Maradona behind Ronaldo. I'm never going to be able to play Pelé and Eusebio though so maybe I would have to prepare for life after Eusebio?

Surely Ronaldo is easier to fit to the constraints in both scenarios. Even if it were neither of those but Zico himself.

Right I need to go out now for an hour or two

Before I go need an AM to talk somethng through if anyone is interested

Just double checking, it's only two rounds right?

Early night for me.

Seeing as this situation has never come up before, in the next mini draft is it just a draft of the eliminated players from the quarters or do the eliminated players go into the current pool

I prefer the latter due to the difficulties of the decade constraints, see no reason not to go that route and make it harder. But what does everyone think?

Bullshit, the only reason I'm dithering with this is it completely rules out Pelé and Garrincha. It's most likely ruled out anyway.

Fact is, I fecked up going for Carlos Alberto ahead of Zanetti in the first place. Bit of an overreaction to Gio taking Facchetti and thinking I would never see him again (Gio looked the bollocks at that point and I had pretty much given up).

fecked up, bite the bullet, move on. It has nothing to do with Eusebio, he is my man.

Sorry Carlos Alberto :(

And Stob :p

Anyone who is gone is gone, no two ways about it. It has always been the case before so if it were to change it would have to be agreed in advance.

I know, it's a shame to see Cafú leave the tourno. Same with Redondo and many others.

Maldini was the one I was thinking about!

I pick Javier Zanetti

Facchetti-Zanetti know each other very well since god knows when but, more recently, winning the All-Time draft for Team Antohan.

Welcome back Pupi :D

For Theon's benefit

Theon : 1. Maradona 2.
Brwned : 1. Best 2. Ronaldo? Falcao? Robbo?
antohan : 1. Facchetti 2. Zanetti
VP : 1. Matthaus 2. Scirea
AldoRaine18 : 1. Cruyff 2. Thuram
KM : 1. Zidane 2. Neeskens
Stobzilla : 1. Baresi 2. Charles
Cutch : 1. Iniesta 2. Maldini

Theon just died. Hypertension brought about by fa.pping is a bitch.

RIP Gravejoy.

Here to class up the midfield a bit, it's the old foe Mr. Falcão delighted to join up with his new team. Just look at the sheer elation.

Have to say antohan Falcao completely slipped my mind, I was going to go with the anti-Robbo and choose Souness of all people! Thank you for that little reminder. I now love my midfield.

Very surprised by Anto's picks I must say

You underrate my midfield. Most will in fairness, but I'm happy to go down fighting with a side I believe in rather than some makeshift load of bollocks.

I had him down as your second pick all along and a likely first one if Best was taken.

I would have absolutely loved to take him and toyed with the idea a fair bit but it meant Junior at RB and I just didn't want my game to be about that. Not that my RB will be particularly troubled, but that's more of a reason not to make it about my RB!

I'm happy with my picks. Dogshite for future proofing, but Cutch is not one to take unnecessary risks with. I just love every player in my starting XI and how they will work together. Ultimately, that's what does it for me.

Can't believe no-one picked up Redondo. All that good work done by Fergus' son and he doesn't even make it past round one. Heartless bastards.

I thought your full backs were fine. Can't believe you've benched Carlos Alberto. There was another player I thought you may go for with your 2nd pick

It was painful to bench Carlos Alberto but that was the cost of bringing in Facchetti. There wasn't much but bones to pick between him and Zanetti but truckloads between Eusebio and Ronaldo. If I were dominating a game picking between the two would be much like picking between Carlos Alberto and Zanetti, but I have a distinct preference for Eusebio if that were not the case.

Ultimately, it's about picking the side that will perform best given the tactics I want for my team and I'm happier with it this way.

I assume you are referring to Redondo. I was never going to pick him, purely a marketing move if you ask me. He brings nothing to the table that I can't replicate through other players. Falcao was the only midfielder that weighed on my mind at all, but picking him would have meant either dropping Schuster (rather pointless) or playing Luis Enrique at RB. I reckon he would have been fine against you, but I would have been in a minority.
