I'm not too fussed about them being from the same decade but having compatible styles. Same decades are likely to result in more compatibility because playing styles tend to be consistent through the decade, but not necessarily so.

Stam isn't good enough with the ball to play total football IMO. Great defender but completely wrong for the style of football, I've had arguments with people in drafts before who thought they could play a certain style of football just because they had a few players who played that way, or the classic 'I'm mixing German steel with Brazilian flair' I prefer to build a team that has a consistent style rather than a collection of good players.

I did say earlier I assumed it was a stylistic reason. But is it is about style you always, always, invariably, had to go with Krol ahead of those two. Still, there are better total football defenders than de Boer, but they haven't been picked. Aldo will pick him before it's your turn though and I may help myself if he doesn't.

Played the CL draft just gone. Needed a break, though I was very close to joining in this one as well. Part of me wishes I had now. Love the drafting part.

Indeed, he's also my first 50s man and suits the approach I'll be taking, partially out of future-proofing necessity having missed out on some of the early attacking marquee signings.

It's not just about total football. It's about holland too. But I'm sure you would like people to believe whoever you have lined up will be better ;).

As said, I reckon Aldo is getting him before I do. You are going to struggle if you want total football + Holland + abide by decade rules. The country is what you can drop easily and, in fairness, I thought you had when you picked Toninho Cerezo.

Sorry, my bad paceme, I see what you mean by Cerezo being a backup. If he grew his hair he could probably pass for a certain Dutchman if you run out of 60s picks.

Indeed it is hard but certainly worth it more than just picking any nationality or style. I'm struggling like feck but a spine at least I think I can make. I just wonder where to bang cryuff, traditionally he's pictured on the left but I may have a play since it doesn't really matter where he plays, that allows me some flexibility at least.
