The Redcafe Champions League Draft

Looking back on the early rounds, I think it's pretty safe to say Jake thought we were gonna start going for 'keepers a tad earlier.

With hindsight, it was actually an inspired pick. One of the top three keepers in the draft, not CL-tied... I picked on that when I first came on but as I get more familiar with what the talent pool is like and what different people have picked... It's probably middle ground in terms of third round picks, far from the worst, and it could serve him well.

Anyone else feel the overall talent pool is actually pretty huge?

Starting to really come together.

Very cute with the ball and the flags... Oh wait... Brown envelopes!!!!

 one of the more pg ones being honest.

Christ...that's one Google Image search I won't be trying! Great pick though. Thought you were going to struggle for wingers but he suits your team brilliantly. You've got loads of width from your full backs anyway, and its easy to imagine Cantona, Alonso and Messi picking out Ljungberg's super-intelligent runs. Your team is shaping up very well.

You've drafted really well there Jakey boy, looks great

Yeah, we really shouldn't have all flipped out when he said he wanted to play Messi out wide and Cantona up front.

Aye, its actually surprised me a tad. Very few obvious weak links visible in the teams so far, and there's still loads of quality up for grabs. I'm being as un-specific as possible here, but there's one player in particular that is going to be a steal for someone imo.

Indeed!

And re: having to double check about me, I've had a stomach bug and been in bed for a couple of days now :(, that's why I seem to be the most active person on here.

Yes. Looking at some of the players who have not and will not be picked, there's some real depth in many positions.

Yups, i think the one Pat is thinking about won't get picked, or will be a sub at best.

India, or the US.

Hope that helps...

If you're going off Nahealai PM to me if you want :)

You have to get better at the subtle patronizing!

By the way, Feeky. patronizing means treating someone with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority.

That being said, I've really enjoyed this one so far, learned a fair bit.

I'm a massive fan of Lopez. Was phenomenal at Valencia. Superb pace and one on one finisher.
Yes, a strong pick at this stage. Lightning quick, stylish and used to tear Barcelona a new one more often than not.

No worries. At least we have someone here that we can PM multiple picks to if necessary.

You always learn, there's always some player you didn't quite have a full picture on, or the odd random story... Less so with such a recent generation, but nevertheless.

If anything, the CL constraint has helped the younger ones here wake up and smell the coffee re: how different european competitions used to be, and how it didn't all begin and end with the CL. The UEFA Cup was a top quality competition.

In fairness, Barca's defence was fecking atrocious.
True enough, poor Rivaldo and Figo had to perform miracles to keep that mob competitive while Real and Valencia were safely marshalled by the like of Hierro and Ayala.

There central defense wasn't that bad with the likes of De Boer doing well, it was that rightback (can't name) who was one of the worst defenders I've seen play for a big club.

It was the entire Dutch brigade if you ask me, but that chap in particular. What about the one who ended up sitting there picking a massive wage at Chelsea?
