The Redcafe Champions League Draft

Why? I didn't mention any players that haven't been picked.

You're mentioning areas of the pitch where different players haven't addressed yet, or may have not addressed until the last round of picks. Suddenly they see your post and change plans completely, thus influencing the draft process.

Needless contribution, in my opinion. By all means offer insight when the draft is over but over-analysing teams and picks in such detail during the process is ridiculous.

I think Robben's lack of work defensively is actually a decent reason for moving a rock solid defender like Ferrara to right back. There's one other centre back out there that I have a particular liking for that might possibly be worth breaking up the Ferrara/Nesta partnership for. Probably won't be as highly rated by most as he is by me though.

Well, considering he has Hierro already, I would just get a reasonable RB. If it happens to be the case that he comes up against Giggs or Ronaldinho then you could switch Ferrara to RB and Hierro to CB. It would indicate EDogen needs depth in midfield more than CB.

The average voter will think he means another similarly surnamed hopeless rightback.

I'll eliminate that, although I disagree, it's pretty obvious and has been for a couple of rounds.

I'd hope the average voter wouldn't be quite that gormless!

I agree that it's obvious. But looking at other teams thus far, other areas of the pitch need addressing first, I would say. Suggesting areas of the pitch that people should be focusing on is influencing the draft though, whatever way you look at it.

There are only three starting spots left for each team now. Picks between now and the end can turn a decent team into a very strong one, as vice-versa, too.

Antohan, please leave out any posts what people have to do. Compliance is their problem, not yours.

I actually mentioned that area as an afterthought, it wasn't the point. The point actually was to flag:

1. that it wasn't 4 out of 12 but 4 out of 11 on the pitch,
2. that some players really had to think about that and yes, indeed, maybe reconsider their priorities

You don't want teams to be in a complete mess due to lack of forward planning. This is round 8, those who did the forward planning already have gained a significant advantage from it going forward, but you don't want the games to completely turn into one sided contests. I'm not posting it at any time either but at the start of the 5th loop.

Ferrara was a fine right back as well as a centre back. You've got options!

Not really. Ferrara is a centerback (a great one). Putting him as fullback is defeating the purpose of picking him on the first place. He would be no better than our Jones as fullback.

Anto, we don't need you to remind teams. You are knowledgeable as feck, but you aren't playing. Let people do what they want. It hurts all of us when you are mentioning shit. Players strategies will change based on that, and its just not fair to the rest. Stop.

Ferrara was an excellent fullback, you are missing by a mile there. I do think he should stay at CB though.

TheGame is online now, so remember to PM if you're going offline because we should be able to smash a few out now I reckon

Anyways... No chance EDogen shut put Ferrara at right back! I'll be so annoyed if he splits that immense pairing he has going right now!

A lot of talk about my CBs I see.. I have three very good ones indeed.

What I will do, we will see :)

Nesta-Hierro is a cracking partnership as well though.

It's not as good IMO. But regardless, you don't pick one of the best CB's of the era and stick him at right back.

Ferrara shoud be on Team Theon :(

Really liking the look of this team.

I have my eye on a few defenders, but the lack of quality wingers out there is concerning, especially non CL winning ones. So I've decided to play it safe, and go for somebody who I was surprised wasn't a 6th/7th pick. A great player, with a footballing brain, and somebody who will run at defenders all night. Ljungberg

Kps, back to you.
Are we all online now to motor through a few picks?

Cheers, quality player, can play as a winger and striker so useful for me. Great pace, dribbling and finishing.

You do however seem to have an awful lot of players who primarily operated on the left, I guess Zidane will be central and Pires on the right, but not sure where you are heading with Ze Roberto AND López.

Is it

Roberto---Seedorf
--------Cocu

?

Great player with great creativity and goal scoring ability by cutting in but I wouldn't call him a winger and I can't really remember his ability to run at people like a traditional winger, more cutting in from the wing, attacking midfielder.

Ze Roberto operated at full back with Leverkusen and has that attacking ability to run forward with great defence as well. Some attacking ability and pace with him and Lopez on the left. He can also play in central midfield so useful there if I go for that option.

With the fulbacks I have, I need midfielders able to cut in, as well as work back. I'd argue that he was a winger, in the same way that Ronaldo is a winger. Obviously not in the same league, but preferring to cut in, then staying out wide like a Beckham, or even a Giggs in his prime.

Looking back on the early rounds, I think it's pretty safe to say Jake thought we were gonna start going for 'keepers a tad earlier.

I regret nothing. I have the best keeper in the draft, and he's a non CL winner.

Keep having to check back to make sure antohan is not in the draft in any capacity.

Yeah, he did, and it worked quite well in that side. Are you expecting Cocu to play like (fecking hell!!!!!). You can also call him Roberto on the teamsheet and hope people think it's short for Roberto Carlos.

No way.
