I wanted Lampard 
Just look at the players that have been picked before him in his position. Zidane, Riquelme, Rui Costa, Del Piero (maybe), Rivaldo (maybe), Kaka. Only 4 players that you can definitely say we're picked ahead of him. Some teams aren't playing with an AMC. Some have yet to choose one and players like Del Piero and Rivaldo could play there but aren't necessarily gonna. It's a matter of preference/style of play/link up.
Yeah Lampard is a AM option, wouldn't neccessarily compare him to de Rossi or Bastian.
Think the next 8 to pick are online, with the possible exception of Gio.
If you have Drogba it makes a lot more sense that you get Lampard than worry about who partners Drogba so he can go forward. It's not like you should be trying to get your final midfield pair already set in stone. There are at least a dozen players you can pick alongside Vieira and with Lampard also in the mix I would consider that a strong midfield trio.
You may have actually dodged a bullet, it's not a bad thing for your midfield unit NOT to be the finished article as you don't know what recruitment opportunities will be presented to you as you go through the knockouts. How many times do we see people end up with a zillion strikers or DMs just because they keep picking improvements and those replaced are benched permanently?
I'm not, I'm considering the midfield trio and not seeing what great loss it is not to have Schweinsteiger or De Rossi when you can have Vieira and Lampard behind Drogba.
It's actually a different way of saying the same as Snow: different teams, different midfields, strategies and ways they will gel together. It made more sense for him to get Lampard, while it made more sense for Theon to get de Rossi.

Leave him to it, there's always 1 or 2 who just try to collect as many no. 10s as possible. They only ever seem to realise it when they have to put it all on a teamsheet.

Yeah won't be easy, that's why I was quite happy with my first three, got rid of that headache for me. Only if Enrique lasted, would have given me so many flexible options with my later picks if I managed to get him.
As it is, worst comes to worst, il pick a keeper that hasn't won it so I'm not forced to compromise any quality in my outfield.
Not bland, very PL, you need some inhos there to add pizzazz. Kidding. Well, not really. By bland I think you mean functional but not overly exciting. Functional works best in early stages though but you need to add X-factor to win. The key thing there is Drogba, there are more exciting options and at that point Lampard isn't as appealing. It is what happens every time someone goes with the Chelsea model, you need to leave room to transform it into a more exciting side.
He is probably banking on getting Cling Bak's back four from the 70s.

To be fair, in the all-time one Messi was competing against players who rival him as the best ever. In this draft no one is close (bar one or two votes). He can place him on the wing in the old Messi role easy peasy if he wants. We all know he operates in the same space no matter where he is positioned on paper.
That's why I picked Popescu. Other CBs out there, but I wanted a non CL winner.

If you are going for that 4-5-1 model then wingers is where you need to add the flair, someone like Ronaldinho if you can pick him up would make it devastating.
Yeah, I noticed you had that angle sorted. I'm surprised Luis Enrique has been considered a 5th round pick here, I would be cumming in my pants if I got him 4th and would be finding it really hard to let him slip at 3rd. One of my favourite players ever though, so I'm biased.

That's what was really weird, everyone in that team seemed to be positioned in the "wrong place" so that they could all fit together. When you tried to picture how they would play it made no sense. I think both sides actually changed their formations about three times in the first half hour and made several subs. It was really really funny that game.
