I doubt it. Sad reflection of the HW division that a beltholder is having to chase a guy who retired on a loss. The lack of credible opponents is horrid.

Still, that doesn't excuse the Mormeck fight...

I was watching a few HW fights from the golden era...and blinking hell, the 70s produced some cracking bouts. The likes of Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, Holmes(late 70s), Spinks, Norton, Young et al would've been champs in any era.

If he was terrified, why did he agree to fight him? Unless you are suggesting that he somehow knew that Pac was "afraid of needles" and would refuse to submit to the testing?

Never said he was terrified of Pacquiao which you keep insinuating is what I said, he is/was terrified of the possibility losing that 0 on his record. BTW, when has Pacquiao ever said he's afraid of needles? It's the same line that's trotted out constantly by Flomos, but it was never said. Pacquiao did not want blood taken out of his body in the days leading up to his fight because he believed it would weaken him. It may be bollox but that was his reason - not that he was afraid of needles. This was clear before the fight with Mayweather was even talked about - Pacquiao had spoken about his thoughts on having blood taken weakening him on TV in the Philippines (video is on youtube). Again, this was long before there was a possible matchup between the two. Wouldn't surprise me if Floyd knew of this.

Why even have this debate? You're mind is already made up. I believe Floyd most certainly was avoiding the fight. I do not think that is the case now. My opinions progress with the evidence that is presented or created. I have absolutely no problem changing my mind on something or admitting I was wrong. I certainly don't believe this is one of those times. Floyd is an idiot. He'd be in jail or homeless if he wasn't a boxer.

To be fair "believed the test before the fight would weaken him" bull shit is as bad as "scared of needles". Anyway is Flomo something to call Mayweather fans? If it is, is there a name for Pacman fans because Nanderson you sound like one of those.

Flomos? Grow up. And Manny will be penniless and in the gutter within a year of retirement. Arum is reaming him. He and Floyd can star in Bumfights 2.

"Pactard."

Yes, it is utter bollox, and I acknowledged it as such. I was simply pointing out that that was the reason. He had blood taken two days before the Morales fight and lost, and he believed that had weakened him.

Yes, Flomos are those people who have no interest in boxing other than Floyd. You can usually distinguish them from others by their intense man-love for Floyd and lack of knowledge on anything. A deep, irrational hatred of Pacquiao and anything related to him is also required.

As pointed out by Lance, a "Pactard" is someone that is the equivalent of a Flomo. I am not one, clearly, since I am fairly objective. I've already said I think Floyd will win. He's obviously a HOF boxer. However, he's a douche of a human being and I think this is where the Flomos come in and insist I'm a Pactard. Realistically I'm not a bigger fan of Pacquiao than I am any other entertaining boxer, I just happen to end up discussing him in relation to Floyd a lot because, well, you know, it's the fight everyone wants to see.

Eh? Wasn't referring to you as one. They exist everywhere, and seem to overrun many boxing forums. It's fecking frustrating is what it is. Flomo is used to get the point across, no other suitable name for them.

For the record, I like Pac. I can't stand Blob Arum. I don't like Floyd, he's a complete asswipe. However, I respect his talent and consider him the best in the world. I would love to see him fight Martinez next.

Hold the phone, we're in agreement. :smirk:

Wow that Ariza interview is pretty revealing, I just read the whole thing on Fighthype.

Can't help but notice that he comes across as a bit of a bellend though. He's obviously very good at his job, but since when do strength and conditioning coaches get so attention? It's obviously gone to his head.

As for Arum, well he's simply a despicable human being. Can't he just feck off and retire. It seems as though he's intent on ruining this sport just to line his filthy pockets, when he's already ridiculously rich and too old to even spend it all. Twat.

Yes, but the point is that Floyd came up with the whole shenanigans in order to avoid the fight. And Pacquiao agreed to the tests a long time ago, yet Floyd kept repeating his mantra, "Take the test." All a bit silly, really.

I think you're a bit gullible if you don't believe that Mayweather was terrified at the possibility of losing his 0. He's obviously much more confident of his chances now, and probably rightly so.

Eh he came up with it to avoid the fight? thought the Mayweather camp always insist on this type of testing for his fights even before The Pacquiao fight was been talked up. In fact it was the Pacquiao camp that came up with the lame excuses.

To my knowledge Floyd never asked anyone to be tested like that before the first negotiations with Manny. If you have a source that says otherwise I'd love to see it, but I've not heard anyone use that one before. He had Mosley and Ortiz tested for obvious reasons - he couldn't not demand the same from them after doing it to Manny.

I'm fairly certain I had read previous opponents including Hatton had done the testing was a article from long time ago so it could have been wrong

Is this official then? May the 5th? Can't look past a Floyd win, for me.

I'll believe it when it's signed, the Garden Arena is booked, and Sky confirm their PPV screening that I'll not be paying for.

I'm 99% sure you've gotten it wrong, but I'm open to correction.

Wish Arum would just retire. He's unanimously hated - serves no purpose but to line his own pockets.

Vitali Klitschko's management team have made David Haye an offer to fight the WBC world heavyweight champion next year.

The Briton anounced his retirement last month after losing his WBA title to Vitali's younger brother Vladimir in July.

But on Monday Haye confirmed his team are in talks about a fight with Vitali Klitschko in March.

"Team Klitschko is in negotiations with Haye and has made him an offer," a management official for the Ukrainian brothers told Reuters on Tuesday. "Now the ball is in Haye's court."

Haye quit boxing on his 31st birthday in October after losing to Vladimir in Hamburg. The Briton blamed his defeat on a broken toe and initially demanded a rematch.

Vitali retained his WBC title in September with a technical knockout of Pole Tomasz Adamek in the 10th round.

Vladimir, who holds the WBO, IBF, IBO and WBA belts, will look to clinch his 50th knockout from 60 professional bouts when he takes on former world cruiserweight champion Jean-Marc Mormeckon in Duesseldorf on December 10.

Right, this weekend, we have Cotto vs Cheatarito, and Murray vs Rios on the same card. Then we have Helenius vs Chisora, and Povetkin vs Boswell. Does anyone know what channel these will be shown on, if any?

It was supposed to be Mitchell but he had visa problems.

No one knows if the fights are being shown?

I've not seen anything advertised on sky for it which would have been best bet.

Have to say I'm more intrested in Martin Murray with his world title shot on friday night, been saying for a long time he would be a world champion so I really hope he can take his chance. If anyone is intrested that fight is live on Sky Sports 1

Forgot about that Boxnation, that channel is going to piss me off but I can't justify a subscription for a boxing channel when already got them for the sky sports and espn.

Manny Pacquiao claims there are a few "little things" to iron out before he signs to fight Floyd Mayweather Jnr - Telegraph

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao claimed on Wednesday there are only a few “little things” to iron out before he signs to fight Floyd Mayweather Jnr in Las Vegas on May 5 next year.

This week WBC champion Mayweather suggested everything was done on his side, and that he was just waiting for Pacquiao to agree to his drug-testing demands. Earlier this year, Mayweather’s demands caused the proposed fight to collapse.
Mayweather had wanted testing to go on for longer than Pacquiao was willing to permit. The Filipino said that giving blood only days before the fight night would affect his performance in the ring.
However, the Pacquiao camp have stressed in recent months that their man is ready to go along with the American’s requirements - and it now appears that the superfight is nearing to confirmation.
"We are ready,” Pacquiao said. “If it pushes through, once he signs the contract then I’ll sign the contract. Only the little things are being worked out and negotiations are almost done.”
Following Pacquiao’s controversial points win against Juan Manuel Marquez earlier this month, there were calls for a rematch. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum seemed keen on the idea.

Just read that. 3 attempts at making weight and he still came in over the limit.

That must have taken something out of him, especially considering he's a guy who relies on his strength and durability.

It is a fight that will be embedded forever in the memories of 13 million people who watched it live on terrestrial television in this country, as well as millions more on delayed tape in the United States and more than 10,000 who paid for the privilege of witnessing it first hand at the Docklands Arena in London. It took us all on a journey to hell but we did not complain...

Nigel Benn v Gerald McClellan – the tragic fight continues to haunt

Great article Steve. Haunting stuff.

Alot more prosaic but there's some good fights on tonight. I'm half-watching Povetkin vs Boswell now and Helenius vs Chisora is on next. Rios is one of my favourite current fighters to watch and the fight against Murray looks alot more competitive now that he's probably a complete mess physically after cocking up his weight-cut. Margarito vs Cotto could be great, and there's the Mares-Agbeko rematch and Darchinyan-Moreno too.
