The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Dirrell is a clown and a terrible actor.

Davis is good but wouldn't win a round against Lomachenko.

Crawford is the man he dismantled a top quality opponent tonight.

Probably not but then he probably won't fight him either for a long time anyway. He's only 22 years old and looks hugely promising I thought, it's good to see him getting hyped up and Floyd is doing a good job getting attention to him with his antics in the presser etc.

Good promo again, Eddie Hearn tweeted it as well which will do his YouTube views no harm!

Can't wait for Brook-Spence. A lot of "what if's" about this fight. I personally feel if we see the best of Brook then he will have too many tools and wins a decision. His timing is superb and he's a huge step up for Spence. Spence is a guy that's got a ton of hype, but he gets tagged a bit and isn't the fastest on his feet. He's a big puncher though and accurate and very good at mid range. Hoping Brook is able to stick and move a little and I think he'll be experienced and smart enough to tie up and frustrate Spence the times Spence tags him.

I don't think Brook has looked that sharp based on the videos i've seen and it rarely ends well going up in weight and coming back down.

Spence is a legitimate threat.

Kell brook is one of the most over rated fighters in boxing today. Out of 37 fights he has only fought 1 close to world class level fighter in Porter (GGG fight was a complete farce in response to Khan v Canelo). I really don't get the hype around him, hes got a nice technique and good power but hes done absolutely nothing to deserve the hype.

No one hyped up their sporting stars better than the British sports media.

If Brook has done nothing to deserve the hype Spence has done even less than nothing. Brook's record is lacking for sure he's beaten Porter (as a slight underdog) and did the necessary step up fights and handled them well when they came but has done largely nothing since the Porter fight. Spence's level of opposition is where Brook's was about 8 years ago.

I wasn't really commenting on Brook with Spence in mind. I agree with you Spence has fought similar level opposition to Brook if not worse, however I would rank his best win over Algieri and the fashion which he got that win better than any of Brooks wins. Brook himself only fought JoJo Dan and Frankie Gavin just 2 years ago after winning the world title! Not only that Spence has only been a pro for 5 years before this fight with Kell, Kell took 10 years of fighting cannon fodder before he fought Porter!

I just feel Hearn has protected Kell a ridiculous amount and both were riding the Khan bandwagon and hoping to retire on that fight. I do feel he could have been involved in some very good fights, but for some reason theyve never happened. Also some of the Sky coverage for Hearns fights are just ridiculous.

Algieri is nowhere near as good a win as Porter. Even Spence and team admitted that. Algieri was a junior welterweight moving up. Also, not a very good fighter. Got a gift against Provodnikov, lost about 120-102 against Pacquaio.

But I agree with Brook. He's one of my favorites as I followed him early in his career but his career trajectory was always disappointing to me (Calzaghe, another favorite of mine had that too until the end of his career). He's a very good boxer though and on the eye test and his skills, one of the best British boxers of recent years.

Think coming down in weight and the damage done in his last fight might swing it in Spence's favour. He's a very good fighter and has knockout power, if he can tag Kell early and he tires then we could see a later knockout. He's stepped up to every challenge he has had thus far, albeit against weak opposition so it will be interesting to see how he fares against a top level opponent.

Saying that, Brook is very talented and brilliant at throwing combinations. If it goes to points, I fancy Kell. If there's a KO then I expect it will be Spence delivering it. As close to a 50-50 as you can get.

It's the biggest test of both their careers really. I always exclude the GGG fight from Brook cos it was at a different weight and he was never going to win it. I'm pretty sure it was done just so they can shut people up who say "he never fought anyone" now it's "he's never fought anyone at his weight."

At least this is a legitimate test for Brook, his title reign has been an embarassment so far, it's a who's who of shit fighters and nobodies. I think he'll struggle vs. Spence to be honest and agree it will be interesting to see how he's recovered from coming back down in weight for a fight.

Rumours of De Gale v Eubank Jr for both super middleweight belts.
Hope so, but don't trust that narcissist Eubank SR to be able to make any big fight. His ego will simply get in the way.

Would be a good fight. I like DeGale, but he's never in an easy fight and tends to fight down to his opponent level. He'd be favored but it would be almost 50/50. I think a Groves re-match is more likely at this point given the impossibility of dealing with the Eubanks.

DeGale would outbox Eubank very easily, Eubank has a lot of flaws technically.

Brook looked so intense at the weigh in.

True, but DeGale always fights to his opponents level. Medina, Dirrell, Bute. Those guys should not have competed, especially after how he started and they were all close-ish fights. DeGale would win, but he'd let Eubank in it.

Yeah, Kell is pumped and well into this one. Think he's going to win. Stick and move and keep Spence off balance enough. Spence is slow on his feet and gets tagged a bit. For the first time he's fighting someone with good power too. He won't get set enough to consistently win enough rounds.

I think there's a good chance of a stoppage in this fight. Both have power and fight on the front foot. Spence has the reach advantage which may be a problem early on, but as Kell showed against Porter he can adjust and turn a fight on its head. Getting more confident Brook will get it done.

That minute silence was fecking embarrassing. I love boxing and when the fights are on, our crowds are great with the chanting and involvement (I honestly feel it plays a big part in many of the great British wins) but the yobbish mentality of them time and time again away from the action in the ring is awful to watch. They can't even observe a minute silence for a bombing in our own country for crying out loud. It's absolutely pathetic.

You're right. So embarrassing they had to mute it. Quite unbelievable.

Please can someone pm me a hd river? Just about to get home would be amazing if a river could be waiting in my inbox ! Share the love brothers

Could someone be a good chap and provide me with a stream please.

Delighted for George. Ref made the right calls too. Fantastic scenes. He finally gets his moment. Groves showed great accuracy and heart on the back foot too which was just as impressive as the onslaught of hooks that finished it.

Groves dedicates the win to Eduard Gutknecht and says that he and his family pray for him every day. Nice touch.

Who's the woman commentator? I'd eat her shite.

Groves fight, amazing, Chudinov was mental, fair play to him but that round 6 was just pure bangs unanswered.

Kell Brook looks nervy as F in that dressing room interview just now, chewing gum, twitchy and the glazed look in his eyes. Personally I think he's looked nervy all press conference as well whilst Errol has looked so confidence and calm. Lets see.

That been said I saw Calzaghe chewing gum, looking nervy in the walk in to the arena and he owned it. So who knows. Khan is a bitch, being a pundit, he's ducked Kell and moved the goal posts sooooo many times now. Scumbag.

Hate to be that guy, but would love a stream please. My usual places aren't up to it.

Hope to be proved wrong but my gut feeling doesn't see Kell coming out of this with the W. Eye injury, weight fluctuation, lack of real pedigree in his recent competition (GGG loss aside) coupled with the momentum and fearlessness of ESj forces me to back the American here.

Again, hope to be proved wrong. Hope he does a Calzaghe-Lacy job, just can't back it.
