Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott is tomorrow. Should be an interesting bout. Ortiz via a vicious straight left from hell in 6th round.

If Chisora can be arsed with the fight which he seems like he is I think he'll beat Whyte to be honest. Also wouldn't surprise me if somehow Hearn manages to turn it so the winner ends up fighting Joshua.

Del Boy against Joshua isn't so bad. Del Boy is an absolute tool so will create some drama in the build up and he is tough and game.

It would be but I'd imagine Joshua would do him easy again, I'd rather he fought someone better.

BoxNation to be free on BT Sport from January.

Great news for boxing and a chance for some smaller names to get a bit of coverage.

If Ortiz is half bothered, it still shouldn't last until the 6th for me.

Gotta take into consideration that Scott is bigger than him and he's awkward to deal with whilst everything else is on Ortiz side. Also Ortiz needed 6 rounds to put away old washed up Thompson as well.

How the hell has McDonnell been given that? Farcical decision in his favour.

The commentary bu the end was hilarious. They'd just given up all hope "Eddie Hearn on his feet...think he's the only one"

Disappointed in both fighters there tbh. Didn't see a real jab game from Ortiz and he didn't hunt him down.

Bad fight, disappointing fight. I said it today that Scott's awkward but first few rounds were just plain weird.

Ortiz brought the wrong tactics in the ring. He wanted to put him away in fashion with one big shot instead of picking him apart with combinations to open him up for that big shot.

He wanted to impress European crowd but it backfired. All is not that bad because some other HW will be more willing to enter the right with Ortiz now when Scott has gone the distance with him.

Wouldn't surprise me seeing David Price calling Ortiz out tomorrow morning.

I reckon a few will fancy it. Bellew was pot on they're both to blame. For this apparent knock out machine and brilliant fighter he was shite. I reckon Joshua, Haye, Wilder, Fury, Wlad would of got Scott out there in 12 rounds. Even the likes of Chisora (who has done) and Whyte would of done.

Worst fight I've seen in years. Hearn's interview was basically just "We need someone to come in and want to get knocked out for some money" Michael Sprott will be waiting by the phone.

Mate i aint pointing finger at Scott and blaming him for this awful fight. No at all. Scott was doing his thing and frustrated Ortiz who expected Scott to walk into his big shot.

Like i said the only positive is that now less fighters with avoid Ortiz. I'm not buying his 37 years of age story at all. he's 43, 44 IMO.

Oh yeah not saying you were mate, was agreeing with you more than anything.

The commentators were funny with that age thing by the end, basically saying he was lying and he is older than that. "He said he saw Ali live as a kid"

Haha yeah, that was funny as fek. Tho that left cross to the body in 11th round was sweet as fek. The way he ducked under Scott's straight right and sunk his left in was a thing of beauty, serious speed for a 40 something year old. I really thought Scott gonna stay down after that.

Probably the biggest fan of the year this weekend for boxing fans. Can't wait for it. Struggle to remember the last time 2 of the best in their peak actually fought each other.

I quite like Ward, certainly respect the guy, but a large part of me wants a Broner-Maidana moment in Kovalev's favour.

Yeah I like Ward and certainly don't mind Kovalev. I think Ward takes it though. What's a shame is this fight could get a lot of casual fans or people who lost interest in the sport cos of the years of shit fights and top fighters not fighting each other back into boxing but it seems Sky aren't arsed about promoting it cos it's not an Eddie Hearn card.

Good watch. Thanks mate

I'm rooting for big Kovalev. ''My fists is already itchin.....to kick somebody ass'' - Love it!

It's truly great. Both of them are ready and willing to fight anyone, no ducking and that's the best thing about them. Can see this turning into a great trilogy if Ward wins this fight.

I'd like Kovalev to win because of his attacking style tho i have great respect for Ward and his ring intelligence and skills.

Ward - Kovalev is such an unbelievably perfect fight. It almost feels scripted.

Ward's the best p4p in the sport now/if Floyd's out... cannot see Kovalev really bothering him in there even if he is extremely game.

Would love it to be more of a contest than I think it will be, though.

You can't sleep on someone who has a genuine 1 punch KO power. Heck even his stiff jab packs more power than someone's power punch. One clean shot is enough to make the difference. Don't forget that Ward wasn't able to put Brand away and no i don't think that he kept him inside in order to get max rounds since he wasn't active in last 2 years.

On the other side Chilemba fight was the best thing that could happen to Kovalev. It was an eye opener, he got a little taste of how tough it will be to catch Ward and put him away especially knowing that Ward has a pretty good chin too (think only fighter that dropped him was Boone, but Ward still won that fight). If Kovalev hadn't fought Chilemba i think Ward would have schooled him easily come 19th.

Should be an amazing fight. Ward has skill, speed and movement. Kovalev has mad power and good skillset as well.

I called it for Ward when the fight was made, not changing my opinion. I still think he's the more intelligent of the two. He'll get the decision.

Looking forward to this though.

I was wondering if you guys could help me with something boxing related.

I'm currently writing this screenplay - a British domestic relationship drama - and in it, the guy wants to impress his new workmates by having them all round to watch a heavyweight title bout (but the night is going to be disrupted by his alcholic wife's antics, etc. etc.)

Anyway, I don't really know that much about boxing - but I currently have the hypothetical fight in the script as Luis Ortiz vs Deontay Wilder.

Can any of you guys weigh in with some opinions on such a fight (e.g. who do you think would win?)

Also, would this fight even ever happen? Does anyone have any more realistic future heavyweight title bouts to suggest? Preferabley featuring Americans, because I have this transatlantic theme kind of running through the story.

Thanks in advance.

I don't doubt Kovalev, tbh, I just think Ward is that good and that awkward and elusive, especially when there's something for him to prove.

He'll give Kovalev the utmost respect, which means he'll be chasing shadows and getting picked off all night, imo.

Would love for it to be a 50:50 contest, but I just can't see it.

Yeah it's a rare thing in boxing now which makes it so exciting. I was going to stay up and watch it due to it being so surprising to see but I'm out Saturday and don't think I'll last til 5 in the morning or whnever it is on so will just watch the next day!

Same I'm going with Ward. Think he'll just nullify Kovalev to be honest which is a bit of a shame but it'll work for him.

The fight could happen they're both heavyweights and Wilder is a title holder and Ortiz is a legitimate challenge. If I had to predict it I think Wilder would win, although it is hard to call (I don't particularly think either is that good.)

If it's a British drama though would it not make more sense to have it as an Anthony Joshua fight? He's probably the biggest heavyweight name in boxing at the moment and is British. He's probably more likely to fight Ortiz as well considering they both have the same promoter. If that was the fight I'd back Joshua to win easily. Equally for me as a boxing fan I don't think to many British people would get up for an Ortiz vs. Wilder fight and go out to watch it, probably just watch it the next day. Joshua is someone who people are legitimately interested in watching.

Arguably one of the biggest potential heavyweight fights is Joshua vs. Wilder though. Again I'd back Joshua to knock him out to.

Hope that helps somewhat and it goes well for you!

IDK mate. If Kovalev hadn't fought Chilemba and had a taste of what to expect and how will it be against Ward I'd probably agree with you and pick Ward to win it. Ward is an incredible boxer there's no doubt about it, his ring IQ, speed and overall skillset is superior to Kovalev but knowing that Kovalev has that mad power and that he now knows what to expect and he'll be able to prepare accordingly just makes this match even better and harder to call IMO.

Work Saturday for me so if i OD myself on caffeine and taurine i reckon I'll be able to watch it haha!

I hope you're right and it is a contest. I will say, though, that nothing can truly prepare a fighter for boxers like Ward except for being in there and experiencing it 1st hand.

A few of my friends are saying this will be the fight of the year on the proviso Kovalev will clip Ward and slow him down considerably and that that's when the real fight will begin. I think that's what people hope will happen but that Ward has everything in his locker to make the fight what he wants it to be.

Oh i agree that nothing can truly prepare Kovalev for Ward except previous experience in ring with him but Chilemba's style is similar to Ward, illusive and hard to hit clean.

Tho Chilemba had a noticeable reach advantage over Kovalev. It was a perfect tune up fight for Kovalev. I agree that that for lots of fans it looks like it should be a straight cruise for Ward but than again like you're buddies said all it takes is one clip.

One thing i noticed on Kovalev is the way he thows that straight left to the body with good power behind it to slow down opponents.

Goddamn im so hyped for this fight!

Ward's handspeed and footwork will probably be the difference. Kovalev's best chance is to punish Ward when they're fighting in the pocket.
