Daniel Jacobs Blitzes Peter Quillan in first round to retain his WBA belt. He'll get his rematch but may have to wait. Jacobs may face the winner of Lee v Saunders....

Thought it was a premature stoppage, but looking again, it was the correct decision

Holy shit if we get Quigg-Frampton and Khan-Brook all of a sudden, pretty much the best all british matchups available post Eubank-Benn......except maybe Froch vs Calzaghe, though even timing doesn't allow for that to be as big as these two.

Haye-Fury have to duel in the winter, would be an absolute year to remember.

Don't forget Eubank-Benn 3... :nervous:

The last great heavyweight fight for me. IMO, similar to Grove - Froch, even though VK had the best of the fight on the cards at to the point of stoppage, Lewis has started to turn the screw and would have prevailed without the stoppage. I love how VK tells in the interviewer after the fight, in 100% sincere terms, that he wanted to continue the fight. He required plastic surgery and eighty stitches in his face subsequently.

Watched the fight at the time and have to say I don't think Lewis was winning that without stoppage. Behind on score cards, not really doing it properly, etc. Vitali just got a monster cut and the stoppage was right, but without that cut Vitali wins.

Klitschko was leading with 2 points right? Not exactly impossible for Lewis to win most of the following round, he generally looks more frash than the opponents near the end of the match.

It's a "what if" now, but I think Vitali would have won without that cut.

To me, Klitschko/Fury was a bit like Haye/Valuev. It was a borderline freak show, and I don't say that to denigrate Tyson, just that it was a remarkably similar style of fight. Wlad was wary of the height, and reach of Fury and tried to dodge him.

Heavyweight division is a mess. Hoping Joshua can resurrect it. Povetkin as well. But the lower weight classes is where the quality is, and it's been this way for well over a decade now.

I'd like to see Ward/GGG. Think Ward's the only fighter around who could beat him tbh.

Maybe Kovalev if the weight disparities could be addressed.

There's a petition to remove Fury from the BBC SPOTY nominees due to his sexist comments about Jessica Ennis. Anybody else see those?

True, the worry for the division is that there's not many coming through. Povetkin whilst good got easily beat by Wlad so there's no real threat with him (albeit Wlad isn't the champion anymore.)

Joshua is the hope but they need someone else to come up at the same time really and it doesnt look like happening.

I don't like Fury but I didn't find them comments that bad, 1 of them was actually pretty funny I thought and I never find him funny!

It was ridiculous. At one point Tysons jab consists of jabbing with his left with his right coming right along side it. It was like he was trying to push him back with both hands. So so poor

Just read that Kovalev is down to have 3 fights in 2016

Pascal in January
Stevenson in June
Ward in the winter

If that happens it'll be brilliant

You'd think so but Ward must fancy his chances as their fight is already a done deal on HBO providing they both continue to win.

If there's one boxing adage that seems to be true is that the good big man always beats the good little man. Cotto v Alvarez is the recent example of this....Can't fault Ward for being ambitious though.

I would say that Kovalev is a very good big man while Ward is a great little man. If they're both at their best, should be a great fight. I favour Ward tbh.

Not understanding how? He has to fight the rematch. I thought you are allowed a 'grace' fight after a title fight?

IBF rules don't allow that:

Rule 3B Return Bout states: '' No contract for a Championship contest shall contain any clause or provision, whatsoever, guaranteeing or in any way assuring or promising either contestant a return Championship contest where such clause or provision interferes with the mandatory defense of the Title.”

From http://www.worldboxingnews.net/2015...r-vacate-title-in-favour-of-klitschko-return?

Why's he been stripped of it?
Each boxing 'federation' has a list of their bext boxers. Generally the champion has to face the highly rated person in that list (the mandatory challenger), or give up on the title. IBF asked Fury to face some guy, but he has a clause to match Klitschko. I guess the options have been to either make a deal with Glazkov, or to give up in the IBF title.

It isn't anything new, it has always been like this. Tyson payed 4m to Lewis in order to not face him cause he wanted to face Holyfield to unify the titles.

That's one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of boxing, would be so much better if it was all under one organisation

Seems a bit stupid by the IBF. As much as I'm not a fan you'd think most of the alphabet organisations would want their title on Fury at the moment. He's the biggest thing in heavyweight boxing. Equally he's set for a rematch with Wlad, imagine Wlad wins that and isn't the IBF Champion after holding it for years. They look even more stupid then. I'd somewhat understand if it they had a brilliant fighter lined up waiting but they don't! Equally Fury didn't duck anyone or avoid fighting he has a contractual obligation. The IBF should be cringing at this, the rematch is arguably the biggest heavyweight fight of the last 10 years and they'll have nothing to do with it.

Moving on, some cringing trash talk from Kell Brook:

And also Spike O'Sullivan seemingly shitting himself and making a bit of a knob of himself in The Gloves Are Off. Eubank Jr also sounds ridiculously like his dad, never noticed it before...swear he's putting it on here.

The sad thing is Fury probably expected to lose his IBF title but went ahead with a rematch anyway. Further proof that the heavyweight division as lost all credibility.

What were all the things Spike said in the run up to this fight?

What were all the things Spike said in the run up to this fight?

He said a few things about his dead losing to Steve Collins but I didn't see anything else from memory unless he private messaged him. Most of it seemed usual shite boxing "banter." Eubank Jr actually comes across far better than him in that Gloves are Off for me, Spike seems terrified to either be in front of him or the camera.

Re the Fury thing, it's even more ridiculous when Deontay Wilder is fighting every bum in the world and getting away with it. The titles are just ruining the sport, it should be just 1 title for the division similar to MMA. It won't happen any time soon though.

Anthony Joshua was a violent thug growing up - If he amounts to anything, will he be turned away from such things? Tyson is such an easy target being a gyspy n all.

It says he made threats to one of the journalists who is going (and considering it's a journalists award is probably a more important attendee than Fury) it's nothing to do with his other views really other than the fact that's what led Fury to threaten him. To my knowledge when Joshua was growing up he never made threats to sports journalists, unless you know something we don't?

I doubt Fury will really care anyway. The press will have a field day when he loses though, will be funny to see really.

Got to say he's growing on me. The way he handled the ITV journalist was brilliant.

And a bigot.

Just a typical religious nutter. Media would probably be lighter on him if he was a Muslim

I don't care for his opinions on homosexuality or abortion, but I'll be damned if I don't find him entertaining. I think he's a great character.
