The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Monte Barrett's stepped in as a late replacement for Oquendo against Solis. Solis doesn't look QUITE as bad as his weigh in weight of 271lbs would suggest. Fight is just about to start. If I hadn't stayed in bed til fecking 7pm I sincerely doubt I'd be watching this.

Stream me up, please.

EDIT actually, no need.

That was quick.

Sweet feck. My heart is racing after that. Lopez barely survived the last round but deservedly took the decision. Mtagwa is an animal - a dirty fighter with little in the way of technique but feck me he must be hell to fight against. Don't let his record fool you. There'll be some questions raised over Lopez after this - he got lured into a brawl rather than sticking to boxing, and he took alot of punishment in the last few rounds and looked seriously hurt. feck all that though. He proved he's got balls the size of watermelons, and he'll only improve as a result of this. We've seen the likes of Victor Ortiz lose their undefeated records when faced with adversity like this, but Lopez came through his first real gut test like a champion. If he can tighten up his defense and improve his stamina he'll still take some stopping.

David Hayes press conference on Sky Sports wtf

I hope he can back up all these mind games he is playing, or he'll look like a serious fool.

How good is Valuev?
Not very. He lost to Chagaev who is two inches shorter than Haye. He has also been the beneficiary of questionable decisions against both Ruiz and a geriatric Holyfield.

The fight is in Germany so Haye can't afford to let it go to the cards.

Heavyweight boxing is awful at the moment. Must say, I find it strange. . . you'd have thought a couple of highly talent boxers would've came through.

Americans, who traditionally rule the division, are much more likely to take up gridiron, basketball or baseball these days. Which is why the division is ruled by Eastern Europeans at the minute.

Shame that. And the East Europeans aren't all that hot.

The other divisions are much better to follow. . .I don't get as excited when there's a heavyweight title showdown anymore.

You are not wrong.

Welter and Super-middle (with the Super Six tournament) are the best divisions at the minute, IMO.

Super Six starts tomorrow evening. Who you going for?

I'm slightly favouring Froch, because Dirrell is relatively untested. Abraham/Taylor is even tougher to pick. I'm leaning towards a late KO by King Arthur because Jermain is, well, Jermain.

Supposedly he has been working on his burn out problems and strengthening his legs as well.

There was a fight in the Pacquiao training camp, loads of distractions can't be good.

Quite a step up for Dirrell this but Froch is always open and it should be a great fight, id never pay ppv for it though.

Should be class. I think Froch has enough to win, and I expect him to come on strongly in the second half of the fight after being outboxed early on.

It's hard to say, tho', a lot depends on how Dirrell deals with Froch's power, and whether or not he's slick enough to avoid getting dragged into lengthy exchanges.

I don't like to boast, but The King knocked Taylor the feck out in the 12th.

Typical Abraham fight, see what the other guy has for the first 3 or 4 rounds, then beat him up, and knock him out.

I haven't seen the fight but did Taylor run out of gas again?

Nope.

He was losing rounds from the 5th onwards. He needed a KO in the 12th (wasn't pushing for it, for the record), and got knocked out.

Froch is being seriously tested, he's had to adopt some not so stylish tactics shall we say.

Have the commentators said how they have it if it goes to points? They haven't on the radio.

Well that's a robbery. Froch was out-classed.

Boxing is such a farce.

Froch by a split decision, could've gone the other way though.

Good fight for the comp but nowhere near as convincing as the hone crowd were expecting.

Froch's coach is talking bollocks on the radio right now, nigh on suggesting that it was a breeze.

I had it even with Froch winning due to the point deduction, could have gone either way tbh.

I wouldn't have liked Dirrell to win the belt like that though.
