The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Just watched Travis Dickinson vs Matty Clarkson on Channel 5. It was like watching a real life fight from a Rocky Film. You need to see this fight on youtube, or whatever!

Anybody else seen this yet? You owe it to yourselves if you like boxing!

If that's true, it's probably due to getting everybody out of the stadium and onto the tube at a reasonable hour.

My local pub will be upset. They are advertising free entry for the fight before 10pm.

Yeh it's definitely true. Sky have plugged that time a few times now and Eddie Hearn was on TalkSport the other night also saying it was gunna be an earlier fight (I didn't catch what time he said hence my post in this thread).

I don't really know much about boxing so I tend to stick to small stakes and win bets. Does seem good value on the face of it.

I didn't like the way the last fight ended. Seemed like an opportunity was seen during the first fight to set up a lucrative rematch and then it was made sure that this is what happened. It's good theatre but it's almost WWE esque levels of theatre over actual sport/competition.

Don't be surprised if something similar happens to make it 1-1, setting up the even bigger decider.

I hope not, but stranger things have happened.

So now there is talk of Maywether vs Khan at wembley stadium!!
Maywether is probably the biggest name in the sport right now but I cant see them selling enough tickets to fill wembley again, unless they have a great undercard too.
Also does Khan really deserve a fight against him? Saying that I do think that Khans speed could undo Maywether but I have said that at least 5-10 times before with other fighters again the money man.
Opinions?
Is it a fight that would sell 80k tickets?
Does Khan deserve a shot at him?
If he did, has he got it in him to beat him?

Any idea when this would be?

Early 2015. Mayweather is fighting again in September but Khan is not available due to Ramadan.

Mayweather Khan in a double header maybe with Kell Brook v Porter(?) or someone similar would absolutely sell out Wembley again. No worries.

Also I still think Mayweather wins v Khan but I think Khan would give him serious problems and I really don't think it would be at all cut and dried the way people think. Khan has more hand speed than anyone Mayweather has faced, and the likes of Judah and Cotto did also give him trouble til he worked them out, and for my money Khan has faster hands than both.

Mayweather would massacre Khan.

Not so sure he would massacre him, if I had to bet either way then my money would be on Floyd no doubt but I don't think it would be as one sided as most think.
Khans biggest problem is he can't take a punch and yes Mayweather has his fair share of KOs but he is hardly the biggest hitter out there.
I would be buying tickets for sure if only to say I saw the best modern day P4P boxer in the flesh, also if the atmosphere is half of what it was for Froch Groves then it will be another top night.

I just don't think Khan would stand a chance. Agreed Mayweather isn't the biggest hitter, but I think he would knock him out, I can't see Khan doing enough damage or having a strong enough defence for his counters. Khan wants his payday and fair enough but Mayweather for me is out of his league.

Definitely though, I'd love to see Mayweather live and if he did fight Khan in Wembley it would be pretty huge, if it happens I'm definitely going. Had tickets for Froch vs Groves but couldn't go in the end.

I was working over Saturday, ended up watching it on record instead.

Big fight tonight. Cotto is getting stopped.

What time is the fight in the UK?

Roughly 4am I'd guess. Boxnation televise.

Yeah coverage begins at 2am so I would be shocked if it started before 4am, that's when my alarm clock is getting set. Completely agree with your prediction; this will be a brawl and Martinez' size and power advantage (coupled with Cotto's defensive frailties) leads me to predict a Martinez win by ko.

Manny is coming to England?

Given that Pac is one of the most obvious drug cheats in the history of boxing, it does amuse me when his fans accuse JMM of juicing.

Likewise for a guy who beat David Diaz like a drum at 135 yet took 9 rounds to stop him. Then he's knocking Hatton cold at 140, destroying Cotto at 147 and ending Margarito at 154.

I don't believe he is still juicing, hence his 180 on random testing and his recent lack of KO's.

One KO loss to an obviously juiced Marquez and the points robbery of the century to Bradley doesn't change much in my mind, I'm probably only playing devil's advocate here but imagine what Pac would do to a crude boxer like Maidana, he'd win practically every round!

Don't get me wrong I think pac is one in a million too but for me Mayweather is the more rounded and complete boxer.
All a matter of opinions.

I think Paul Butler is the best fighter in Fish Eyes' stable by a mile - he looks real class to me.

Didn't see that one coming. Martinez is done. His knee was f*cked from the very beginning.

Good but not nearly as good as he thinks he is. But he'd easy beat Wilder.

Nobody that I've seen, but then again Klitschko is probably odds on to retire. For my money David Haye is the best HW in the world outside the Klitschkos, and by a distance too.
