The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Khan seems to be getting worse with each fight, I don't think Diaz was even ranked in the top 15 & was causing Khan all kinds of problems. On current form I think Khan would have serious difficulty getting passed Kell Brook never mind Mayweather.

Khan's ship has sailed for me. He is never going reach the level that he once threatened. That doesn't mean though that PBF won't want to make a big money fight with him. Boxing is more explicitly about money than any other sport. If Khan gets the Mayweather fight then he earns a few million. The result of the actual contest is almost irrelevant.

I could see it happening, i just wouldn't have any interest in it as a competitive fight.

The pre-fight with Guerrero's dad was more interesting than the actual fight. Total dominance from Floyd.

Guerrero gave a good account of himself the first two rounds, from there though I didn't even think he came close to winning a round.

The guy was looking good, but when it turned into a brawl in the 7th it looked like Burns was still coming off second best but by the end of the round it was becoming obvious Burns took so much more out of his opponent.

Purdy couldn't make weight for his fight with Alexander. IBF title not on the line now. For feck's sake.

Ruthless, great knockout

Love to him against Garcia now hopefully, would be a great fight

Another win for Ogogo last night. He looked good but he was at no risk whatsoever. I seriously don't understand the draw of being one of these fighters that just goes around the circuit to get tee'd off on for every second of every fight.

He was basically a portable heavy bag who wafted his arms at Ogogo every so often.

Did you see Garcia's face after that KO. He was doing all his posing but he looked more than a little concerned to me.

I wouldn't want anything to do with Matthysse after a performance like that, especially with a style like Garcia's. Should be a thoroughly entertaining scrap though.

Shame there's pretty much no chance of Rios-Matthysse ever being made, can you imagine how good that fight would be?

It would be a great fight. Matthysse - Maidana is the logical one. They were actually amateur rivals. Maidana had the upper hand in those days though I would definitely back Matthysse now.

Here is an article about a behind closed doors box off that they once had to decide who made the national team.

I think Al Bernstein said it best on the Showtime broadcast: unless you have the slick boxing skills of a Nunn, Whittaker, Ali or Mayweather - which Garcia doesn't have - you're not going to box well enough to stay away from his heavy hands.

Judah shook Garcia up a few times. Matthysse would wipe him out. No way I can see Khan getting in the ring with him.

Yeah he'd be a nightmare for Khan.

Although he was interviewed after the fight and seemed really up for it. Normally you'd think it was just bollocks and he didn't really mean it, but I didnt get that impression personally. He doesn't seem aware of his own limitations/weaknesses so I wouldn't be surprised if he was actually up for fighting Matthysse.

Perhaps. On the other hand if Amir Khan finds a way to beat Mathysse, he will silence most of his critics. Every problem is also an opportunity and all that.

Yeah no question there mate. He definitely doesn't need to take the fight though if you know what I mean, which is the point. If he went for Matthysse it would be unnecessary I think, he could easily navigate away from him and still really reignite his career to pre-Garcia levels.

I mean he was sounding certain about moving up to 147, which I really think he should do, give him more strength in his legs etc. But then in that interview he was backtracking on that saying he wanted to get in with Matthysse, Garcia etc.

Virgil trained Mike Dallas Jnr in Matthyse's last fight. He knows first hand what he can do. I can pretty much guarantee that Khan will not fight him, otherwise Khan may as well retire now.

Also, this bullshit about 147 giving him more strength? He said the same when he was at 135 and moved to 140. It's never his fault, always his trainer or he was weight-drained. Frankly, the Diaz fight pretty much sums up his level atm, he will not get anywhere near the p4p top 10. Could you imagine Khan at 147 with the likes of Berto, Mayweather, Ortiz, Thurman, Guerrero, hell even Broner and Brook would deal with him easily. His only hope is getting a shot at Malignaggi but Broner will put pay to that notion easily come June.

I think Devon Alexander would spoil his way to victory over him aswell, tbh.

Nope.

Supposedly did that when he fought Maidana then went and showed his arse against Peterson and Garcia.

Has the same problem and at his age I don't see him eradicating it

Audley Harrison deciding not to quit after all.
He really should.

Anyone looking forward to this?:

I for one cannot bloody wait!!!

I can't wait either. Working till 9pm tomorrow though. Anyone know what time they will be coming out?

I think Carl will win this one.

Bit peeved that I'm gunna miss it. Fancy a comfortable Froch win either on points or a stoppage in the last few rounds.

That said, I've never really rated Froch but Kessler is past it and coming in 2 pounds under will cost him.

A Froch fight for me is always unmissable, dude just lays it all out there and they are never dull. Key here I think is not only is it on home soil but since their first fight I think Froch has gone up a level in performance.

This should be epic. The last fight was amazing. Froch needs to start this fight properly. Felt he didnt do that the last time at all.

fecking David Haye. Wish Sky would use someone else. Hes actually terrible at the whole talking thing.

Never really rated Froch?! He is in the top 5 British fighters of all time. He is also one of the few fighters around who has the admiration of all hardcore fight fans around the world. He came up the hard way, he has never ducked a fighter, he has had one of the most intense schedules of any fighter in the past 7 years and he has travelled the world taking on the best in their own back yards.

Simply he is the kind of fighter that there are too few of in boxing. If you don't rate him then you need to watch more boxing.

Is there much hype about this fight in the UK then? I imagine Sky Sports have been going all out with their coverage.

Should be another quality fight... I reckon it's Froch's turn to win a close decision this time, with him fighting at home and all that.

A difference of opinion is all well and good but don't pull the you need to watch more boxing condescending bollocks. I watch plenty thanks and have certainly seen plenty of Froch.

I like him as a man and admire his attitude, work ethic, dedication, guts and courage. Just not so much his actual boxing technique.

Andre Ward absolutely schooled him and, had they met, Calzaghe would have done the same.

I have to admit to being a huge fan of froch. I feel he has always been given the crappy end of the stick, in terms of recognition, even when he has been fighting the very best. I'm glad that for once he is getting the recognition he deserves, and hopefully he can get the win tonight.

Technically he does seem to lack amongst the other top fighters, but he more than makes up for it with heart/determination and power! He has a never give in attitude and it has served him well during his career. He was getting schooled IMO in the Taylor fight, then came that 12th round and Froch's never die attitude and the rest is history.
