I think people are being a bit dismissive of Flintoff really. If he decides to stick at it he has every chance of improving, especially with the coaching set up and facilities he will have availible to him.

I don't expect anything amazing, however, he is better placed than the majority when it comes to improving himself and progressing his career.

I don't think he can TR.

His leg work is horrendous. He was practically hopping on the spot all the way through the fight. If he crossed his arms you might mistake him for PSY. Any decent fighter could rock him seriously with a decent punch.

He doesn't seem to have any intelligence, he had no desire to work away at his opponent, every punch was the money punch trying to knock the guy out. Every few seconds he'd launch in on him with a barrage trying to knock him out. Any decent fighter could let him come on to him, defend and then knock him out.

They said he had 300 sparring rounds. Where did that all go? Because if they weren't telling him to knock off the attempted haymakers then they've all been wasted.

He slaps with his gloves rather than punching, he was trying to hit his head from above with his palm like he was swinging a hammer rather than hitting him with fist.

His eagerness to go in and his poor footing saw him end up like a deer caught in headlights when he took an actual punch and went to the floor. It wasn't a proper knockdown but still.

I mean he can't really do anything other than improve looking at his performance but this is all relative to certain conditions:

1.) His current experience
2.) His current age

There isn't really any scope for him to go properly forward in the sport unless he has some sort of boxing epiphany. He's probably better off getting back into cricket and keeping that shape and bat for Lancashire again.

Flintoff was massively embarrassing, I cringed through most of it. What the hell was he doing for those 300 rounds of sparring? What were they teaching him? He didn't even know how to punch properly for feck sake let alone move around a ring. He has no possible chance of a career in this sport, just stop already. Not only is it a mockery but it's just dangerous for him once he faces a boxer who can you know, box.

This x100000.

I don't understand, I thought I read that Flintoff boxed in his spare time to keep fit and then you add in the intense training he did for this fight. Where did it all go? He can't punch correctly at all.

The punching side of things is odd, granted, but we shall see what happens with him.

He can take a punch. He doesn't need the footwork of Pernell Whitaker to win a few bouts at heavyweight

He is 34 years of age now what time does he have to improve? I can honestly say hand on heart based on last nights display that I am technically a better boxer than him and I only boxed for about 2 years at the age of 21.

Its exactly as Zarlak says, the most simple things you would expect to be there even at this stage aren't there. You should not have to teach a professional boxer how to throw a punch, thats something you learn even before the amateurs.

You might have to teach a professional fighter how to throw a more effective punch but not how to actually perform the most basic part of their job, it just ridiculous. He won yesterday by virtue of facing a "boxer" who had absolutely no desire to actually fight and still managed to knock him down almost by accident.

As for his leg and footwork again i'm only being honest when I say i've seen 12 year old in the gym with more technical ability on this front than he displayed last night. His stance is too wide to allow him any real freedom of movement, his feet are planted most of the time rather than being on the front of his foot/toes or pushing off the back foot to move.

Any step up in class or desire and I would be seriously worried about the possibility of a life changing injury as that's the risk every boxer takes when they step into the ring. I hope he considers this a fun outing/journey and quits before he gets seriously hurt. I previously said I'd like to see him get a pasting but I'd take that back because based on last night if he was ever in with somebody capable of handing him a pasting beside quitting before he took a serious beating he would have no real defense.

Is Johnson planning on boxing at any point? I mean throw a punch now and again ffs.

I'd like to see him go to the body a bit more. Johnson barely moves but his guard is pretty good up top, Fury seems to get success going to the body.

Johnson is an awful fighter to watch. I have given up on this fight for MOTD. When Johnson fought Klitschko he landed like 15 punches over 12 rounds, he went in there not to win, just not to get knocked out. One thing is for sure - he is showing Fury much less respect than he did VK, he looked positively frightened against VK.

Yeah it's not even as if Johnson actively won by doing anything, he just took the centre of the ring and Fury didn't work

Mehh that was a bit shit, down to Johnson though who was ridiculously defensive. Fury looked pretty good at times but should have stepped the workrate up, Johnson was there to hit.

Yeah stupid to boo him, professionally fought. Johnson was to blame for the lack of action

I agree, Johnson was a poor fighter.
But I do thing that Fury could of hurt him if he want to.

Johnson is an excellent defensive boxer. Granted that he offers little in term of offense. He is one of the few fighters who have managed to go the distance with Vitali Klitsckho. If he doesn't want to get hurt he doesn't.

I had Cotto 4 rounds to 2 after 6, after that he lost every single round on my card. He has had a hard career and I think that he doesn't have the fuel in the tank anymore. He has had some big money fights, hopefully he will still be liquid and will choose to retire sooner rather than later.

Congratulations to Trout, he has a great name and has announced himself to the big time.
