The Reality Draft: Main Thread (Finals)

I can see some meltdowns, that's for sure. If we lost Souness for instance, it'd be disarray.

You would be so screwed it's unreal

I actually went for Lucho as a backup for that reason, there's always enough defenders to put together a half decent defence but keeping a midfield ticking is quite a challenge with leftovers. Funny thing is since everyone is prioritising the "flexible options" we are bound to end up in a draft where a whole bunch of top versatile players have fecked off to Argentina.

It's not about loving or hating him, even you won't disagree that he's a player who has to played in specific setups with particular style of players around him, and that's a problem when you are getting players out of a hat with a randomizer.

Even now if you give me all next picks of my choice and remove the DoF defender aspect, I can try to work out something, but not with not having knowledge what I will get (and what I will lose in tevezbola).

No doubt - I wasn't talking about you there, I just meant generally - everyone should love Pirlo! :D

But yes, you need the right set up. That's for sure - It's actually what I was getting at, when I spoke about him above. Stick Pirlo in a bad set up and he's a 16th, 17th.. 25th round player.. i.e. He can't do it. Stick him in an good set up and he's a 3rd or 4th round player.

Stick Pirlo in a perfect set up and I don't think you'll have a better player on the pitch.

That's the entire point though Aldo :smirk:

It would have been a nice strategy had anyone (including me) thought of it before. Nominate players who are excellent in a certain type of game and hope he lands with someone else!

I know so I am not expecting to end up with something that makes a lot of sense.

Yea as usual I didn't give it much thought. BTW who nominated Gerrard? :D

so far I've picked 3 players for my team, and gotten 3 given to me.

I've been responsible for 2 of Anto's players that were given to him.

I can take credit for his demise, or his success, depending on how it plays out.

@Aldo got a point. Pirlo was the player I least wanted after Gerrard due to that.

It is difficult to build a team around Pirlo in a normal draft and here it would be even harder. Then comes the chance of losing a great playmaker which would leave you really weak "playmaking wise".

The only way to do it would be to get a new deep lying playmaker and just swap him in for Pirlo. Of course that would mean you built your entire tactic for your 8th pick or whatever.

 Damn, I can actually see it happening as well.

There is maybe two players I'd be content with to come in and replace Souness at this stage.. Trouble is that I've slagged one of them off in a previous draft

Lucho is a great pick generally, I'm surprised he didn't go sooner actually as his reputation is pretty rock solid in these Caf drafts.

I actually thought about nominating Pirlo in that exact context: instead of someone wanting a 4-4-2 diamond getting him, forcing a manager into a particular setup. Then I discarded it because 1. it was way too nasty, 2. if someone wanted Pirlo and used his pick on Pirlo then that was one less pick for me to worry about in getting my guys, 3. there was a 1/16 chance it backfired. As it turns out, by the time you randomised I wasn't too averse to the idea and Pirlo would have been my 5th choice out of that lot.

How exactly do you get credit for my succcess? It sure as hell won't be down to you

Lets see how long his bad luck runs... @antohan can you list your top 3 players you would like to avoid in Defenders round?

That really hasn't worked so far, has it? The defenders are quite fine anyway, I'm not worried about duds and more about getting the ones I prefer. No longer going WM by any stretch of the imagination so couldn't care less really.

Just checked, Stob was the one who nominated Stevie Me.

I know, I remember reading that and thinking "it still hasn't dawned on him, after all those drafts he crashes out of playing Gerrard in midfield, behind the striker, on the right wing... the common factor is playing Stevie G" :annoyed:

We needed a replacement at that point so thought of tagging of people who have played in the past. Sorted now.
No issue. This draft looked good, but no issue. Who quit and why?

It was actually a misunderstanding. We were under the assumption that Chesterlestreet was interested in playing while he hadn't explicitly confirmed his interest, so when his turn came after waiting for him we had Theon picking till he showed up and then he clarified that he did not register for playing.

Anyway, now EAP has dropped out as he's the gamemaster and wants to be neutral and CHester has taken his place while Theon and MJJ continue what was supposed to be Chester's team.

If you are interested you are more than welcome to help out. As far as I know we are not allowed to hire assistant managers but there are scouts, so I presume if you have suggestions to give to someone (me :D ) please feel free to.

No one did actually. Chester had apparently gone AWOL but didn't even know he was playing, someone took over his team, then he came back and decided he did want to play, so we sacked the GameMaster for eating shit and gave Chester his team.

 because as your Director of Football, I have a hand in any success you bring.

Well, actually... you only gave me Raúl as DoF and he is by all means a top drawer forward. Problem as usual is you know jack shit about my actual needs, but we know this all ends up in me getting the sack, just like that chump who had hired Ljungberg before me. That said, it's fair to say you are a better DoF than that spazzo who got me Starfish.

Early morning revelation - should've gone all-in for Conti :(

@Edgar Allan Pillow Is the schedule (which round is what) somewhere in this thread? Couldn't find it and it's a bit of a pain having to look it up in the other thread. If you have the time, you might want to edit the OP to include it.

Anyway, next round (7) we get a defender from the DOF, right?

It's in the OP under the heading 'Method of Drafting', and yep next round is the DoF defender picks.

Bored, so looking at the teams so far. I have to say despite the hits I'm actually not too disheartened about my boys.

Then I bumped into this. How lucky can you get? @Raees didn't only avoid getting an unneded striker (which he would HAVE to play) but also got pretty much the best player available for his side. Not the best player, a cracker of a player who also happens to fit right in it, seamlessly.

Yeah but he might feck off to Argentina, so I'm preparing back-up plans.
