Film The Penguin - Batman Series

just so Im clear as there are many timelines

Is Batman on active duty during the show?

Yeah. Sure I read that the next movie follows directly on from the first, so he's going to be tied up dealing with something else while this is going on.

Tbh, probably has bigger fish to fry (pun absolutely intended), but yes is the short answer - it's set after The Batman movie.

Had a feeling that was the case. On one hand I think it was great they avoided putting in any hints at all that he was around (apart from that final scene) but at times was he conspicuous by his absence especially with the drug lab explosion

This series follows directly on from the first film.

Also it's a very early incarnation of Batman isn't it? Only 2 years in so probably still finding his feet. I do think he would've shown up at that ground explosion though and maybe the Falcone poisoning so it was a bit odd but obviously the show was not about Batman so I can see why he wasn't.

Aargh good to know. Sort of assumed the second movie would follow on from this series and the penguin would be the main antagonist.

But yeah, i really enjoyed this show. I thought it was excellent.

those last minute escapes and him getting away in such manner in 3 consecutive episodes cheapened the overall experience. the ending was good, but I liked the first half of the show more.
That has been a constant from the very beginning and one of my major gripes with the show (see my earlier posts in this thread). Too many last second escapes for Ozzy Oz. The acting and the setting of the show is good. The plot and the story not so much.

I thought it got worse and worse as it went on, I had to fast forward when he wouldnt stop shouting 'ma'

Yeah I'm not sure that I bought the whole second in commands turning on their boss scene but it didn't ruin anything for me.

I doubt there will be a second series as there's no redemption for this character whatsoever.

Sets him up perfectly as a villain for the next movie or two though.
This leads up to Batman 2 and apparently, as per Farrel, he has 5-6 scenes in the movie. I think Batman will get rid of him fairly quickly.

I don't think they wanted to focus on Batman in this at all.

Bats has little interest in daytime crimes.

I genuinely didn't see that twist coming in the last 10 minutes. What a way to round off an excellent season.

I've always liked Colin Farrell. In Bruges is one of my all time favourite movies. He showed another side to his acting ability in The Penguin that I didn't know he had in him.

Brilliant finale, they saved the best til last.

Does the final scene mean he was always having his girl dress up as his ma when they... did stuff?

Jeez, the finale quickly reminded us that The Penguin is actually a villain and we shouldn’t have been rooting for him for a second.

Plenty of implausible stuff throughout, but all in all a very enjoyable series.

He's punishing his mum at the end isn't he? Because of what he said to Vic when he was talking to him at the end, the part about family giving you strength but it being a weakness too. Because of what his mum said to him before she stabbed him and because he saw the tear roll down her cheek right?

I think he is still obsessed by her and contantly trying to win her approval

Yeah I don't think he's punishing her at all. He's got severe mummy issues and him keeping her around in a vegetative state is just another nod to what a lowlife he is after promising not to leave her like that if it came to it.

I think he's just living his delusion at the end with his mother, what she said with Sophia didnt align with it so he pushed it to one side and carried on like it never happened. Very good show, just far too much havoc happens without fear, mention or an appearance of Batman.
