The open championship starts next week, and with it being the greatest and most saught after major there will be huge competition. Played at Links course Royal St. George's, it surely will give the British and Irish players a huge advantage.
I personally wouldn't bet against Rory McIlroy completing the secont of his innevitable many majors, nor would I like to rule out his fellow countryman Graeme McDowell from sticking another one on his trophy shelf. Both grew up playing links golf, and both have the golfing monkey of their backs being major winners allready. As for the English contingent it would be great for Westwood to finally get over the line in a major instead of perenially being in the top 5. Luke Donald is another with all the talent, but is yet to hold his nerve when it really counts. Casey and Poulter are also in with a shout, but personally I can't see it happening for them at the Open.
As for the European and American challenge, well it's wide open for a good few players to get a got score with no Tiger breathing down their necks. Phil Mickelson has never managed to do it at the Open, could this be his year? Schwartzel and Kaymer could be in with a shout also and wouldn't it be great if Sergio could finally fulfil his early promise. I do though think the challange of links golf will be too much of a handicap for them and the winner will come from these Isles.
Looking forward to it, and let it rain, pour, wind blowing and everyother sort of summer weather that's normal in Britian!
