The official 360 v PS3 v Wii fanboy thread

This thread scares me. How anyone could feel so strongly about a console that they get into a raging debate on the internet over it is beyond me.

I have a 360 but I don't go around saying the PS3 is shit or the Wii is for girls, I don't care which is better quite frankly.

Neither do, I dislike fanboyism in all its levels. Im fighting an anti-fanboy crusade here if you like, the enemy here being the dreaded sony-fanboys!

Well then, care to outline which console/brand that I, the hypocrite, am a fanboy for? :smirk:

The 360.

What gets me though is the fact you get labelled a 'fanboy' merely for pointing out that the PS3 is a much better console than people give it credit for. Every thread to do with the PS3 you seem to be there ready to give it a go and criticise it in any way you can. Fair enough if you don't like the PS3, that is your choice, I happen to prefer it, if that makes you think I'm a 'Sony fanboy' then so be it.

On your claims that Sony's 40GB model is 'watered-down shit', all the difference is between the 40GB and 60GB model is the lack of card readers and the lack of backwards compatibility for PS2 games. Are you really that bothered about it? Because if you were you would have paid £130 extra and bought yourself a 60GB model. I have always said SCEE treat us like shit compared to other territories so that argument doesn't hold. But what I will asay about Sony is that there products are extremely reliable, never have I had a product from Sony which has broken down, and on that basis I give them a lot of respect. Particularly when you consider the fact my 360 broke down twice in as many months.

Anyhoo enough rambling for now, I feel like I'm going round in circles with this.

I'd be interested to see the number of units sold for all three consoles.

Is the Wii really miles out in front? Shocking if true, if purely because people who want to play good games won't find them on the Wii.

I am a blizzard fanboy....there I said it

And so am I ;) But it's of no relevance whatsoever to this discussion. Go find the Diablo III thread.

The Wii is on around 26m, 360 on on 20m and PS3 at about 15m.

Oh, and don't let Redlambs read that last sentence, he won't be happy;)

once again you stun me with your superior reasoning and logic. You should be given a medal or perhaps and excutive position. Cause you are obviously soooo talented.

Just go away, you never have anything constructive to say or ever have anything to add to debate.

When you do come back and we'll talk, otherwise stop wasting my time.

Some people have made posts about how ridiculus this debate it. I was making that point, this is crazy.
What you are doing is pretty much saying my console/mascot can beat up your mascot. The fact that you are pouring so much energy into all this is insane as some people have pointed out.

The Wii has won simple as that. They have turned their console into a pop cultutre phenomenon, they make money on every console they, sell they sell gimmicky games which appeal to the casuals, they have AAA titels which appeal to the nintendo fans. Game over for sony and microsoft. they are no trying to cememt the 2nd position and find their niche/establish a bigger fanbase.
Microsoft ahs the advantage witht he superior online play, and games. Sorry MGS4 is not enough. Sony has only know released what it takes to beat microsoft and yet they have lost exclusive titles.
Time is slowly running out, each console generation has roughly 5 years although this one might last longer. How long has this generation been on the market 2? 3? years. It hasnt peaked yet but the time is slowly running out.

and yes I am aware of the ironi, me posting and yet claiming this discussion is absurd.

Thats bollocks, every 360 model is cheaper than the PS3, except possibly the elite which might be the same price as the shittest possible PS3 the 40gb.....hang on thats the only PS3 available in Europe, DOH.

40GB is will soon be the only model available worldwide, so again you are talking through your arse. No other motherboard model is currently made.

The only thing that the launch models had over the 40GB is 2 extra USB slots, memory card readers, hardware PS2 BC, and SACD support. Most people don't want PS2 BC (I've never used it - a software solution will be coming shortly however), and don't even know what SACD is. As for the other two things, I've never used more than 2 USB ports at once, and even then one was hosting a $5 memory card reader because I can't plug two memory cards of the same type in at once.

All current 40GB PS3s have Bluetooth, WiFi, and HDD out of the box. Adding the latter two of these is what makes XB360 expensive. You can get a PS3 up to 500GB+ for the same price as getting an XB360 to 120GB (which is the largest option because it uses non-standard HDDs).

I think that you have misread the thread title.

If this generation has not reached its peak how can you say the Wii has won? This generation will last alot longer then the previous generations. 10-15 years minimum I would say, I wouldn't even be surprised if the PS3 and possibly the 360 lasted 20 odd years. However I can see a new Wii being a possibility in the next 5-7 years as I have posted previously in his thread.

Edit: Also as Weaste has said, we don't even know if its in Sony's or Microsoft's plans to release a new console

what about the new 80GB Weaste?

I don't think that Microsoft will. They will try to go the old MSX route, or to give a more up to date comparison what Nokia is doing with its non-hardware based NGAGE. Basically providing a gaming "platform" that contains a feature set under a common API. They can then let others build the hardware and forget about it. I'd expect it as being something that could run the same games on devices from a mobile phone to a PC to an off the shelf TV. Their long term aim remeber is to have some flavour of Windows running on everything.

I'm being proper brainwashed by WeasteDevil and Co. (well done lads) and I now want to own PS3.

Already found in a store a 60GB model for ~ 400 GBP and I seem to remember someone mentioned they don't produce this particular model anymore. How's that?
Is there something wrong with it (apart from the price) or what?
It says you can play old PS and PS2 games on it which could only be good thing?

40 GB model = 320 GBP ... seems more reasonable..is it really? Am I about to pay 80 GBP more for an PS PS2 compatibility and 20GB+ hdd space?

I don't know the reason why theyre being ***-continued but what I do know is they are the better version

Orite i presume you didn't have a PS2 then.

They don't make them anymore because they can't produce them at cost/they are too expensive for people to buy. The reason is that they have PS2 bits inside, that's how they give backwards compatibility. All PS3s can play PS games, just as the PS2 and PSP can, all software emulation.

The European 60GB has PS2 BC (it has the PS2 graphics hardware in there), 4 USB ports (instead of 2), flash card readers, and also plays SACDs. It uses the Cell on 90nm, so it uses more power and produces slightly more heat than the 40GB which has Cell at 65nm.

I bought a PS2 on release day, It's still going strong, what are you trying to say?

Mine broke about 5 times and is still reluctant to play games. Didn't the early consoles have a massive failure rate?

PS2 BC sounds nice though...I don't know. Maybe it could be software emulated somehow in the future in 40GB models.
80 pounds more isn't such an issue for me so I'd probably go with this weird expensive overheating and power consuming model.

On the other hand usually the latter the model - the better.

Luckily my hundreds of PS2 games are copies because im a slimy PS2 chipping fraudster. I might have been slightly annoyed at no BC if I was'nt.

Not at all, dont get me wrong I dont do it personally. Just used to know a shop owner that did.

I shouldnt have to!

I want to play 3 games on the PS2, im not going to splash out on another console which I probably will never use again.

You seem to be doing a lot of moaning. At least they still make and support it, and at its price point I wouldn't exactly say you would need to splash out. If you really wanted, then it's not difficult to source a PS3 with basically full PS2 BC brand new.

My PS2 has lasted me since launch aswell...though i did have a time where it couldnt read discs....knowing I was getting a 360 soon I thought "feck it" and just whacked it where the cd bit is and after a massive clang and then other noises it worked again and hasnt failed me since
