The New Official Republic of Ireland Football Thread

Yep, we looked like a football team again there, 1st half like the old days, dogged, everyone working their hole off, very creditable 0-0 against a really good side, then played a bit when we got a chance in the 2nd. Kelleher would have saved the 1st without the deflection I think and I'll write the second off. Plenty of hope there and that's NOT something I could see myself writing a week ago. They're good guys who'll fight, just need a bit of direction. Which appears to be materialising.

Late shout out for Anthony Barry, the new England assistant manager. His job interviews must be gas.

“My biggest strength? I’d have to say…unstinting loyalty.”

Daniel Michael O'Shaughnessy on the bench for Finland. It’s not every day you get a great name like that playing for Finland.

They’ve hit the bar twice in 2 minutes, we’ve passed the ball straight out of play in response.

Both teams move towards Irish goal when they have they ball.

Ireland so slow and plodding about.

First cross that isn’t blasted straight into the defender and we score. Decent work from Ferguson to get up to that

We’ve seemed to have learned that having possession of the ball is good actually

Handball rule is so shit.

Questionsble use of var.

Good man Caomhin, excellent goalkeeping.

I know he’s a Liverpool player…but I’d love to see United getting Kelleher. I genuinely think he’s much better than most of the keepers in the league.

I feel bad for Szmodics. Every time he’s gotten the ball the closest Irish player is about 40 yards away
