No way will he be fired on the basis of a League Cup game. Watch him get a few jammy PL wins to sort of steady the ship, before getting another disastrous result.

This latest diabolical performance against the might of Derby is just another in a long line of negative events stretching back to the Sevilla game last season. It has gone from bad to worse since then and is showing no signs of improving.

Zidane will be in for a shock if he comes here, I mean the technical level of some of our players will give him nightmares

That's why I don't want him here. Love him, so don't want his reputation shattered with our players imo.

We need to take the long route. Start rebuilding for once for a long term plan.

Sack Mourinho, get Carrick as a DOF and try to get Jardim next season.

Difficult to see beyond Zizou at this point, you would have to expect Woody and the board to be thinking along the same lines.

It's just a matter of time at this point, Jose will be gone before long.

I'm guessing Conte. I'm not sure Zidane is up for managing in England with language problems.

Fallen is the wrong word. Regressed a bit since SAF left, while most teams have improved significantly.
Whatever word. They have followed a structured strategy / plan of improvement over a number of years (and, in the case of City, spend a shedload of money) both in terms of player recruitment and, in tandem, tactical approach. We seem to have employed a scattergun approach to player and manager recruitment and play a different team and different tactics almost every game.

IMO, even with a clear strategy, plan, investment and careful implementation, it will take years to get back to where we need to be.

I'd rather give Carrick or McKenna the job on an interim basis than continue on the way it is. At least they won't alienate half the players and we can buy some time before we appoint someone. We already well on our way to throwing the season away at this stage, but I doubt Woodward has the balls to do anything unless we go out at the group stage and are hovering around mid table in the run up to Christmas.

Carrick and McKenna are coaching this side too. I'm not sure what they're done to warrant assuming the head coach or manager role, even on an interim basis.

I wonder who is chucked under the bus tonight?

Mourinho is running out of top players to blame. I’m thinking Lukaku is next.
As much as I want this to happen. I highly doubt he will ever blame Lukaku. Mou should go, and take his “wannabe Drogba” project with him.

There're surely loads of things that need to be made regarding Ed and squad. We shouldn't be deluded. I wanted LVG to feck off but always said him leaving alone won't change everything, but it's part of it. Same about Mourinho. He needs to leave, now not even by Jan, but him leaving alone won't need to change us to title contenders.

Sack him, bring a DOF and start planning as a football club for once.

A right winger, A Cb at most, I don't see too much of a change needed apart from the obvious tactics. We have a balance of youth and exp already. Better tactics can get the best of what we have already.

I can take a run of bad results. It happens.

I can’t take a year of a complete lack of direction. Incoherent performance after incoherent performance. A complete lack of consistency in approach and team selection. If you asked me to describe how United play football, I couldn’t do it. We go out there every few days and look like 11 individuals with a top shotstopper who bales us out, whilst the outfield players neither defend competently or attack effectively.

That’s down to the coach. What are we doing all week? What are we trying to work towards? We don’t have any real distinguishable strengths or partnerships on which to build. It was boring under Van Gaal, but at least I could see what we was trying to build. We’re closer to Moyes now.

I have been saying for months that second in the league flattered us massively and that we were likely to get a rude awakening this year. The metrics and indicators don’t lie. You can’t rely on a small supply of chances and unsustainable goalkeeping forever. We’re going to be sixth and looking over our shoulder at seventh unless things improve. 200/1 for the title is a truer reflection than a 100/1.

I’m sitting there in my seat after the game and not sure what to do. I want to always support the team, but we should be entitled to show our dissatisfaction. The standards at Old Trafford are not being met and we’ll have 20000 empty seats for every game throughout winter at this rate. Our first home CL game is on general fecking sale.

I don’t know whether sacking Mourinho is the answer, but I pray those in charge don’t need to have us mathematically outside the top four for the current situation to be laid bare.

It’s going to be the longest and worst season for United in my lifetime with only a cup run in the new year making it salvageable. I would love to be proved wrong. I would love Mourinho to prove me wrong.

Liverpool beat PSG at home, we lose shortly after to derby county. If that's not a wake up call at the way things are going then I don't know what is

I’m not particularly happy with him at the moment but at the same time is there anyone available who will realistically improve our situation?

I feel like it was only a few seasons ago we were in this predicament and begging for Mourinho and look how that’s turned out

A right winger, A Cb at most, I don't see too much of a change needed apart from the obvious tactics. We have a balance of youth and exp already. Better tactics can get the best of what we have already.

Several players bought by Mourinho won't even by favored by his successor. No chance in hell a manager wants to play fast fluid attacking football will love someone like Lukaku upfront for example. Mourinho is the only reason he's playing for us at the moment.

Vangle December vibe with a better squad. Uh oh.
And don't forget, LVG had massive injuries that December. Imagine if Jose had the same bad luck..? We'd be bloody bottom at this rate.

Outplayed and beaten by two of his former players. Both play better, modern football while Jose seems like a past it manager with outdated methods.

I can't see how Woodward can justify not sacking him while the season can still be saved. Chelsea stuck with him for too long and paid the price. We stuck with Moyes and LVG for too long and paid for it. I hope the board learnt their lesson.

Serious question. Would you guys take Wenger now (Wenger ball) over Mourinho?

As interim till the end of the season, why not, chance Sanchez Pogba and Martial play better. I have serious doubts on Mourinho achieving top 4 as it is.

Edit: Our defence is already bad, Wenger's achilles heal

Mourinho is cancer to our club. We need to be put on a plant-based diet. Bring in Zidane ffs.

There's no way the board are decisive enough to pull the trigger in September.

Atleast with LvG we were in a horrible injury crisis in that December debacle. This one doesn't have that excuse either, we just lost at home to a lower league side. If not now, there's a serious chance fans will end up turning indifferent to the club.

He needs to go. Enough is enough. Teams like Wolves and Derby are coming to Old Trafford and relaxing. We should have these teams pinned on the edge of their own box and throwing the kitchen sink at them. The players don't look like they aren't trying. They are but just getting outplayed by more organized and cohesive teams.

By virtue of everything you've just listed, the United job (at this moment in time) is a poisoned chalice.

I don’t think it is. The board should have bought in an attacking manager by now.

Woodward shouldn’t be making football decisions. We bring in that guy from Juventus to help with the transfer strategy, leaves within 12 months as we completely ignored his advice.

Spending a large portion of our summer transfer budget on one player so we can’t strengthen in key areas. Now the transfer market is so inflated it’s a struggle to bring in 3 players with £150m.

He's got ta go Robbie, I'm sick of this.

Until the end of the season? Given it's already a write-off?

Hell yes. Not likely to be the solution for longer than that.

A washed up manager for another washed up manager. Heck no

As interim till the end of the season, why not, chance Sanchez Pogba and Martial play better. I have serious doubts on Mourinho achieving top 4 as it is.

You'd be leaking goals probably but you'd be scoring goals playing free flowing football.

There's no way the board are decisive enough to pull the trigger in September.
It’s not that. There’s no way they’d consider the hefty payout until it was official we weren’t in the Champions League. We’ve seen it happen before. We’re heading for a Moyes season. Under LVG the team was shit but there was a little togetherness and when Rashford and Martial started playing something good. Now, the team are a bunch of strangers with everyone underperforming and unhappy. Mouriniho creating a toxic atmosphere is nothing new either.

I'm still Jose in, but the matchday squad made my heart sink. Darmian, Mata* and Jones have no future at the club. While several 1st years could have been potentially kept off the bench for academy players who could have brought something different to the team, not to mention putting pressure on the underperformers.

Also annoyed by the lack of ruthlessness displayed by the team, which I believe stems from the manager. Most teams would have put Derby to the sword after an early lead, while our reputation of old would have won the game for us after taking the lead. Our lack of desire to hammer teams when the chance is presented, is costing us wins of two levels.

*unless we go 4231 and play him as an attacking mid with plenty of runners around him

lol at 54.8% now, wonder how high it'll get. Was in mid 40s 10 days ago or so.

More than a "champions league place" in the league means the title man.
No, we're 8 points away, which is obviously bad, but at this stage of the season not final. Most likely we don't win the title this year, but we can still get close, a challenge wouldn't be that bad. But we must get max points from now on in the league. We score the goals, but can't shut up shop, so frustrating.

I think if you break down his transfers they've been largely positive. Pogba and Matic are good enough for most elite teams, Lukaku was the best available striker on the market (was between him and Morata) and Bailly is our best CB when fit. Miki only cost 30m which is buttons in this era and got us Sanchez. Lindelof has been a flop but I like the look of Fred.

I'm not talking about on paper, I'm talking about return for investment made in the player, or at least one player who has come to the club and been as good or better than they were elsewhere.

Bailly is now 3rd/4th choice CB when fit, if you haven't noticed.

Don't get me wrong, I want him gone. But realistically I just don't see it happening any time soon. I'm afraid we're stuck with him.

I don’t understand how we still look disjointed as a team and how there is no distinct style going. It’s so strange.

You add a good individual player like Sanchez in the team and he just disappears into the Utd void of nothingness like the rest of them. At best everyone plays like they’re an international team, where they kinda know what to do and sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn’t... but it’s never fully fluid and there’s no rhythm or understanding.

I've kept well away from this thread. But if Mourinho has alienated Martial, Pogba and Sanchez, our best players, I'll never forgive him.

Stripping Pogba of the captaincy is just petulant and unnecessary.

If Lukaku starts and we don't beat West Ham, I'm done!

The question is not whether you are in Mourinho in or not. The question is do you believe he can turn it around? There's no evidence of that happening so why delay the inevitable? Get an interim manager in whilst we can still save the season.

We beat Watford who beat Spurs. I wish life was this simple and childish.
Although Liverpool beating PSG has no reflection on how good or bad we are, you simply can't ignore that we are in fact very bad at this moment in time.

We don't even score enough. We're 8 points away already in September, it doesn't look good at all
