It should be binned off. At least for now.

It’s clear the hardcore match going support are behind him, it’s clear the lads are behind him, and there are signs of hope where the football is concerned.

He’s done well to ride this storm, lesser managers would have crumbled. It’s clear he’s one of the few managers out there with the balls and ego for this job.

While we all have reservations now is the time to be United. Threads like this on one of the biggest United forums going just gives more ammunition to those ABU tabloid scumbags.

Orrrrrrr, you could always use the ignore thread function

What the storm he's created ?

We've beaten one of the worst sides in the league 2-0 and people think everything's fine again.

The concerns with the playing style are still there and those things that Pogba said about being fined were still said.

If we keep playing like we did against Burnley than I'm sure all the critics will come round to Mourinho. But one game isn't enough evidence and those who cite victory over Burnley as proof of Mourinho's suitability are demeaning both him and the club.

I'm thinking about how after he shipped them of the club he won the Premier league.

This argument is really silly, and I'm being polite, for numerous reasons. First of all, De Bruyne and Salah were not the same players in 2013 as they are today. Before they joined City/Liverpool they had two seasons in Werder/Wolfsburg - De Bruyne and Fiorentina/Roma - Salah where they further developed and grown. Second, they had better players in their place - Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Schurrle who tore apart the league. And third, which is pretty much the most important thing for this context, Chelsea was never a developing club, they don't give a shit about academy players, all Abramović care is short term results and titles so Mourinho didn't really have time to deal with kids.

Also, he won the fecking league after!

You answered yourself here mate. Now he's at a developing club, he has a board that embrace the tradition of kids, a board that is willing to give him time as long as there is sign of growth, a board that gives a shit about academy players. Why is he still bent on using Abramovic template at Manchester United?

United board can stand few seasons w/o the league as long as they build a team that can dominate for 10years plus. This is a tradition all United fans should embrace not crucify Ed because he refuse to sign a 29yr old defender.

The press have created this story to maintain the 3 season narrative. It is in their own interest to keep this going as Jose sells papers.

I went through all the same thing when he was at Chelsea when the press had a field day. The problem was the results didn't come and there really was a problem in the dressing room. How this problem evolved is only speculation and if the press stories were true or if they had an effect on the dressing room is also speculation. We still don't know to this day.

The reality is that the real fans have to ride out the storm and make judgements on the team performances. It's painful I know, and the results haven't been great, and yes there seems to be a problem with a lack of identity in the patern of play, and yes there are a few dodgy players...… errr where was I? Oh yes. Your in for a bumpy ride guys. Best of luck.

to say LVG failed to fix problems is a joke. He didn’t get a striker? We brought Falcao. He then got rid of Falcao and RVP because they was over the hill and brought a talented Martial. What’s wrong with that?

LVG was very much a joke and there is lots wrong with it. He bought Falcao who was well over the hill by then and certainly not over his knee injuries as a player he used to be. So he basically got 2 old over the hill strikers for over 250k a week. Not the smartest of moves. Compare that to Jose who turfed out some OAPs and brought in Zlatan who banged in 28 goals.. I think it makes LVGs move pretty pale in comparison.

On top of that Martial was a big risk signing and not ready to be a consistent starter for a big club like United after what 11 starts for Monaco. Plus he was played on the left wing not up top.

So yeah, LVG didn't really fix our issues. The best he did was sign a good player in Martial, who wasnt even a number 9 so completely unrelated to the gaping hole we had upfront.

Blind at CB was a success and if we continued to play that B-tec tika taka way he would still be a success now. Mourinho got the best years of Valencia at RB so I don’t get how LVG doesn’t get credit for converting him into that position. Yes it naturally was going to have its ups and downs at first like the Arsenal game but other than that he’s been a top RB.

We never started to play a "tiki taka" way under LVG. Where on earth did you suggest we can continue it from? Blind suits a back 3 but never should be part of a back 4 as 2 centre backs. He has no central cover and would struggle massively unless he's in a defensive set up like LVG (who stunted his midfielders from advancing in the process).

There is a reason why Blinds best move ended up being Holland rather than a major league. So basically LVG didn't really massively improve the quality of our defence, he left a hole in the number 9 position and wasted funds on 2 flop midfielders and 2 flop wingers during his 2 years at the club.

In other words, he fecked up transfers and fecked up our style of play.

Jose came in and put world class quality into the team where as LVG was willing to coach the players he had, as you noted though.. some of them badly lol. However in hindsight I think we would have seen a better Luke Shaw, Martial, Rashford, Blind, Pereira and Borthwick-Jackson if he stayed. But it was time for us to move on. Only difference is this team was actually ready for Pep and not a Mourinho.

I have no idea why you keep comparing LVGs absolute shambles of management to what Jose is doing. LVG fecked up in so many ways. His progress was literally the definition of backwards.

Season 1- LVG took us to 4th with 70 points.
Season 2- LVG dropped to 5th with 66 points.

Win % after 2 seasons was 52%.

Now let's do Mourinho:

Season 1 - ended 6th but won Europa to get us back into CL. 69 points which was more than LVG in year 2 without any Europa League distractions.

Season 2 - 82 points and the best finish and goal difference since SAF.

Mourinho win % is currently 62%.

There is no leg to stand on to defend LVGs transfers or philosophy or results in comparison to Mourinho. I have no idea why you're even bothering to defend him or suggest he did little different to Jose.

I personally can't support Mourinho because of the amount of disrepect he's given to the club and players, referring to the 'football heritage' rant he had and other times he's called into question the quality of the team (he said that there were 'many' Sevilla players who would play in his team). I don't understand how fans would also defend those type of comments, it's like being in a bad relationship where the other person makes you think you're a piece of sh*t (football heritage rant) and worthless without him (getting 2nd place was the biggest achievement of his career quote). What he said about United's football 'heritage' as a way to defend his crap performance against Sevilla was absolutely disgraceful and an insult to the club, unforgivable.

That's just his attitude, when things go wrong he never blames himself but rather goes on to demean the club and players.
I never wanted him here and will never be a fan of him. I'm not in the 'Mourinho Out' campaign though where I want him to be fired immediately because he did come 2nd in the league and you couldn't expect anyone to beat that City team. But if he doesn't pose a title challenge this year with our rivals doing well, along with struggling in the UCL, then his position can be called into question.
All of this.

He completely lost me with the comments he made after the Sevilla loss. Total disrespect for our club.
That people still support him blindly is just unbelievable. He's shown he cares not one jot for United.

I guess to each his own..

Unbelievable that people have different views and opinions than you? Oh, the horror!

It’s not even been consistently bad to watch under Mourinho. In his first season we played a lot of nice attacking football but were hamstrung by our terrible conversion of chances. That and not getting the points we needed against the big teams. In his second season we started off ok. We only lost our attacking mojo after Christmas when we struggled to bed in Sanchez (and/or Martial and Pogba lost their way - for whatever reason)

That’s one thing I’ve found very unfair about the Mourinho criticism. This idea that we’ve been playing constant shit on a stick football, throughout his reign. That happened with the previous manager, but not Mourinho. He’s definitely been very (arguably too) conservative in our toughest away fixtures but we’ve generally showed loads of attacking intent in all our winnable game, bar a grim two or three months at the end of his second season. So far this season we’ve defended terribly but we’ve showed loads of ambition going forwards. So the “god-awful football” complaints really have to stop.

Completely agree. Its an incredibly lazy and naïve to just label Mourinhos football "awful".

Clapping him out to the dugout.

Idiots. Can’t stand sanctimonious gits.

I dunno, it's admirable that we continue to support our manager in tough times rather than break out the white hankies, even the clown Moyes. It would be interesting to have seen if the board would have pushed him sooner if the fans had turned at the ground. It's obvious he wasn't up to the job about 2 weeks into his stint.

It's annoying when people use match going fans as a reason to stick with Jose though, for the reason above.

4 paragraphs of excuses. Which players where old and over the hill? Rooney? We had one of the youngest squads in the league. LVG did the rebuild Mourinho’s job was to improve the quality which he has. To me this squad is better than Fergie’s title winning squad and our points tally and position last season kind of proves it. I don’t really care what City have been doing with spent a fair bit ourself and we have brought well.. we need to focus on how to get this title back by improving on the pitch we haven’t been good enough.

You'd take Jones Smalling Shaw Matic Fellaini Rashford and Lukaku over Vidic Ferdinand Evra Scholes Carrick Rooney and Van Persie? I'm sorry, but good lord you've lost me.

One win against Burnley won't change my mind. Want to see an attacking manager at United with a better mentality and vision for this club.

I feel like Jose will almost thrive off of some of the negativity lately and be out to prove a point.

I think he knows he has to prove to people that he is still one of the best managers around, even if he’ll act like he has nothing to prove.

He is showing some fight. I think we’ll be alright.

Clapping him out to the dugout.

Idiots. Can’t stand sanctimonious gits.

Did you attend sunday? Or sat on your mums sofa pontificating at people enjoying themselves?

Some people just don't get it and never will.

United's away fans are the best in the country in terms of the variety of their songs, but i don't see how it's top class to sing the praises of a man who's served up such dire football over the last few months and done us down in the press with his 'heritage' rants.

It's called supporting the badge, someone has too.........

I hope so, playing that way is much more progressive and will take us further. Keeping the ball away from our own goal is the best way to stop conceding.

Yeah I do think they'll have an influence, all i've ever wanted is progression with this team but the last 6 months I felt we were going backwards. I don't expect us to win every match but if we can play some good football and give it 100% every match i'll be happy. Doing that we will win 80% of the matches anyway. You could see the positive effect it had on the fans too, they didn't stop signing all game because they actually enjoyed it.

Maybe signing Joga Bonito made Jose understand what the fans want

I have a feeling Jose doesn't need us telling him what needs to be done:) Jose is pragmatic and will always set us up based on what he has available to him. Jose has mostly been at big clubs after the few initial jobs. Getting results is always going to be important in his jobs. If he has the players and resources available to him, he will play eye pleasing football. He would not have survived even in a short term at any of his big jobs if he went the way of results like Klopp and/or Poch. They are at clubs where the expectations of fans/board/media are not at the level where Jose has been at.

I thought this poster in the following summed it up pretty well.

Mourinho is pragmatic. Give him weak defenders and he will play a defensive team to cover them. Give him good defenders and he will play more progressively and more attacking. He still holds the record for most goals scored in one season at Real Madrid and his Chelsea team played attacking football the last time they won the league.

Your whole point is based on the myth that Mourinho football is always negative. It's only that way when he's not got the quality of players he needs.

It’s a suspended sentence and the deal was struck ages ago, IIRC.
Yeah I know, Spanish law allows the first sentence to be waived if it's under two years right?

The Spanish tax man gets everyone.

I like Mourinho and really wanted him here so it was all rather disappointing when it appeared that the shit would well and truly hit the fan. After the Brighton, Spurs games and the whole 'RESPECT' rant, I had pretty much lost faith that he would turn it around. The Burnley game was an improvement and I hope we can continue in that vein against Watford. I'm still not sure what way the season will go, to be completely honest.

This is how I feel - after Sevilla and his heritage shite I was done with him. That was exasperated after the Spurs defeat and I voted for Mourinho to go in this thread but I've since changed my vote to giving him this season to turn things around. If we get top 4, have a respectful CL campaign/cup run and most crucially, finally look like we have a definable attacking football identity then I'll be content for us to go forward with Mourinho but we'd have to start looking like an elite club in his fourth season.

Thanks for your effort appreciate the %. Had to hope you didn’t attach a PowerPoint.

On Falcao - you going to honestly right you thought he was over the hill when we signed him? Lol. He did go on to play for Mourinho the season after as well by the way. So two poor choice by two of our managers then.

Martial played the majority of the season up top and we shifted him to accommodate Rashford as LVG wasn’t scared to believe in the youth.

We played possession football if it’s not a variation of tika taka I don’t know what is. It’s certainly not Mourinho football. We went for 80% possession in most games to now hardly having the ball. You seem like the type of guy to say that down to the players regressing as your full of excuses.

Daley Blind played in a success back 4 the majority of the second season and held his own. Mourinho’s two CM don’t move like LVG’s so I don’t get why it would all of a sudden become a struggle. Yes no shock he’s gone to Ajax I hardly doubt your Barcelona’s are going to spend £17m on a guy who’s hardly kicked a ball for 2 years.

It's funny how people's minds radically change based on one game. That goes for both directions.

The play has been better in the last couple games, even if we lost to Spurs, and that's what the MOUTs have been complaining at, isn't it?
I don't think people changing their mind when seeing the changes they want, is much of a surprise.

It's not a surprise that football fans in general are masters of the knee jerk. This thread started immediately after Spurs , so yes the change of opinions is based on exactly one game. Against Burnley.

Mourinho was willing to allow Martial leave at the expense of Perisic/Willian. Think about that for a second. If anyone at Chelsea had the guts to do what Ed is doing now, Mo Salah and De Bruyne will still be playing for Chelsea.

And Mourinho has been back with over 400M pounds, If Mourinho found a decent signing, Ed will go for it. Toby at 60M? Get out of town. The rhetoric that everybody know Mourinho style is pure nonsense. He's 2004 Chelsea team was very young with only Makalele at 31yrs, same with his Porto side. Mourinho wants to win now to counter the competition, Ed wants to build a legacy. I'm still shocked with how United fans can have issues with Ed's logic to low point of flying a plane.

I definitely would rather have martial over perisic and Willian but I’ll come back to this point.

Other than Porto and Chelsea 04 (which was 14 years ago) his teams were players with experience, Inter, Real, Chelsea again.

Now back to martials point, what good is martial if he barely plays and one of the first players to get taken off ? If pep or Klopp were managing us then no question who should be playing here between martial and perisic/Willian, but Mourinho is our manager and martial is not his type of player (I do however think it’s messed up how he was dropped as soon as Sánchez came in).

Again I want to be clear, mourinho is not blameless but why hire someone that’s not going to do the job you want him to do ? Also he was backed until this season, why not sack him if you’re not going to back him anymore ?

By the way I don’t agree with the plane stunt, it’s very low.

I wonder if opinions being expressed here are broadly representative of the match going supporters....Over 50 percent of the folks on here want him out,I”m not sure if over 50 percent of OT wants him out...

Mate you must be seriously uncomfortable with your head up your own arse like that.

 Have a look at the post he quoted to look at someone with their head up their arse.

Clapping someone at a game is a show of respect and a nice gesture. The vast majority of match going fans wanted Moyes to go yet they still clapped him because he's someone that's working for the club.

You'd have to track them down and take a survey. On matchday (reasonable) supporters drop agendas to get behind the team and the manager. LVG, Moyes enjoyed this also even till the final days

But where the fans chanting their names ingame like they do now for Jose?

Yes. Here's LVG arguing the fans couldn't want him out because they cheered his song passionately every week

Think Moyes also has a similar quote but can't be bothered
