even if he, by some sort of miracle, manages 4th its still a regression and he should be sacked.

That one year we lost the league to City on goal difference.

What are you even arguing? You do know our goal difference will improve as we pick up points, right? Do you understand how that concept works?

Why didn't Fred, Sanchez and Mata play today? Do we dislike quality on the ball or something?

Sanchez and Mata did play for 25 mins but don't remember them doing anything. In fact City started to keep the ball better once they came on.

Herrera over Fred is baffling, don't understand why we spent so much money on him if he's not used in games like these. I know he's bit careless on the ball but Herrera was doing that anyway without contributing anything meaningful going forward.

Shit result but let's move on, our fixtures look good post International break and we need to go on a run to get back in CL running.

Yes - the one time in how many years that goal difference actually mattered? I care about points, and our goal difference will improve as our points tally improves.

We also lost the title on goal difference.

Most sides tend to look clueless against City tbh. I think Liverpool were penned back quite heavily this season when they played em. Imagine taking out 3 star players on top.

True, but I'm talking on a pure basic level... Like for their third goal, someone should just go take a foul... Or we should be pressing... Or anything really, other then just letting them knock it around at will.

What are you even arguing? You do know our goal difference will improve as we pick up points, right? Do you understand how that concept works?
Are you even listening to yourself? You literally just stated that goal difference doesn't matter and we have now brought up two instances where it did matter.

Do you not understand the concept that our current goal difference could come back to bite us later on in the season? Just what are you getting at here? Do you think we're actually arguing that we're going to be -1 at the end of the season? No. We're saying that it's pathetic after this many games and that it's a big hole we need to dig ourselves out of. It can come back to hurt us where obviously the goal difference would not be -1.

Will it? We've picked up 20 points so far and our GD is -1. Why is this guaranteed to improve?

At this stage the goal difference doesn't matter. And I've explained why (i.e. as we pick up points during favourable fixtures we will see improvements in our goal difference). I said it mattered in the title challenge season and that's it. It's rare and we should focus on winning games first before we look at winning by big margins.

So by your logic Jose will need win the title to keep his job, and you think this team is capable of achieving it?

Those people have to be trolling. Nobody can have watched Juventus waste all those good chances and assume he planned for that.
They were serious, look at the poll. When you read this thread you find people who are fully behind him and scratch the barell for the search of 0.01% of positivity to back Mourinho.

Look at the teams we have to play in the toughest part of the season. I didnt' say anything is guaranteed, I just said we are on good form and have a favourable run, the points should pick up and our GD should improve. I dont care about goal difference more than points in November.

Oh god. Nobody is saying goal difference matters right now as it currently stands. What we are saying is that -1 at this point in the season could cost us later on in the season. It's a big hole we need to climb out of. Other teams aren't just going to stay static in that department.

We should be aiming for the top.

The gap between city is huge. It only looks to get bigger. We were absolutely schooled.

He has to go.

I posted in another thread. Mourinho's biggest impact is reducing expectations of the "top reds"

@VP89 is one of the worst posters around, genuinely clueless when it comes to football.

Why don't you explain it to me?

I don't think goal difference matters right now. It's November. I think we have a lot of favourable fixtures to pick up points and goals, and we can finish in the top 4.

I don't think the season is over, and instead of looking the broader point of my post you all want to bone goal difference to death for some bizzare reason.

Didn't Sanchez play? I'm pretty sure that I saw him coming in, I don't remember seeing him after though.
Sanchez came on late. Not that he's been great for us. Woeful signing but of late he at least looks a functional footballer.

*shakes head* I can't. I can't. I just can't. How do you people make decisions in real life :wenger:

For those of you who still can't decide whether Mourinho is the one for this club or not. For those of you who are in that 5-10% who keep changing their votes in this thread in the last month or so. For those of you for whom achieving a fluky victory over an unremarkable (on the night) Juventus means Mourinho should stay and then losing 3-1 to this frankly excellent City team means Mourinho should go. I just can't. I have no hope for those of you at all. We're all fans here. We're not the old drunk guy at the pub who says he supports Man Utd but can't name 5 current players. And we're not the 21 year old girl who's trying to act cool and says she is a fan of the club but has actually never watched a single full game in her life. Most of us here have watched pretty much every game since Mourinho took charge. We've watched or read pretty much every press conference or important statement that he's given. We've sat around reading other people's takes on his actions, words, tactics, philosophy, mood, everything. FOR. MORE. THAN. TWO. YEARS.

But yeah. The next 5 games will FINALLY tell you what you need to know...

I hope to GOD that those of you who make statements like that are just like that when it comes to football matters. I certainly hope you think a little bit more deeply when it comes to things in your actual life. If not, then please consider thinking a bit more. Wonderful things may happen.

 This needs a degree of appreciation.

Top 4 still very doable. Not sure how the season is over. A very weird post.

Not impossible, but very hard now. It looks like being another 13-14 season with a very high points tally needed for the top 4. Even Spurs in 4th are heading for an 86 point season. Given the points we've lost, even 75 points for us would mean a dramatic uptick in form, starting immediately. Basically we're left hoping for a Spurs & Arsenal collapse. Could happen, but seems less likely than us continuing our poor form.

He wasn't fit. Jose mentioned the knock was part of the reasoning to not have him start today.

I'd rather we move on from this manager.

I'm his big supporter and I feel we should move on too but not at the moment, our club was in chaos and he managed to bring some stability post Newcastle game. It could have gotten really ugly but it didn't, players have also shown a lot of fight for him.

I want our next manager to start without any baggage, give him a full summer to bring his personnel rather than make do with what we have mid-season in one of the most competitive Top 4 race we've seen for a while. This is Mourinho's mess let him clean it up, he has until May to do it and then he should be binned.

Yeah... thanks for that little outburst.

The actual point of my post is simply that Mourinho isn't gonna get sacked after that game - especially after recent results.

If you think otherwise, I'd suggest you take your own advice and try to contemplate things a little more deeply than you're currently doing.

This club has a board that is doing an awful job of running a massive club, and a board that is incredibly slow to act...

If they weren't gonna back Mourinho, they should've replaced him in the Summer - yet they didn't.

They're now 12 games into a season watching Liverpool and City duel it out for the PL while Utd sit mid-table with a squad that needs improvement and key players contracts that need signing ASAP.

I actually feel that if there's a manager out there that would ensure the signings of Martial and de Gea, and would bring the best out in Pogba, then bring him in. But will the board do that...?

No. They will act in a reactive manner, as they have proven to do so for literally every decision since the retirement of Fergie.

You can stamp your feet and tap away unfriendly messageboard posts on your keyboard as much as you like, but the reality is that he won't be sacked at this time.

So, for me, the next 5 games are where I'll hope to see a continuation of Martial's form, a hopeful improvement from Sanchez, and some desperately needed improvement in the defense.

He wasn't fit. Jose mentioned the knock was part of the reasoning to not have him start today.
Okay. I suppose it wouldnt have made a difference given Sanchez himself has been a disappointment.

Agree with you.

This season is a lost cause anyway.

He's put himself in this position. This wouldn't have been a terrible result if it weren't for the shit served up in losing to the likes of West Ham. The way I see it is that the season is basically a write off (we ain't winning the CL) and we might as well part ways with him and give a new manager a few extra months of working with the players before next summer. I don't believe we are good enough to be winning the League but we certainly shouldn't be 7 points off top 4.

Next appointment has to be perfect though or we are going even deeper into the shit. Ed has to get his finger out.

Mourinho: Not a bad performance. Just a performance with mistakes.

Yeah let's agree to disagree pal.

I think the top 4 right now will most likely be the top 4 by the end of the season.

Is there really a point of keeping him only for inevitable to happen...
