90s player. I think Marcelo and Rodriguez are both good defensively. Rodriguez was, IMO, as good as any left back around last year.
Too short of a "peak", not proven against best attackers etc etc.
Peresonally I didn't think Rodriguez was a bad choice as there are limited amounts of 90s lads, but Marcelo at his prime is way better.
One and a half seasons playing at a very high level isn't that bad. Most 90s players will have only had short peaks, anyway.
It's not bad at all and Rodriguez is a great LB and a brilliant prospect, but I don't think it's comparable to Marcelo's peak which was great for RM. Provided a lot of width throughout the season and wasn't as bad defensively as some RM haters are trying to imply.
I can't believe Chivu has gone.

Why, sir? he'd complement Pepe as CB, or shifted to LB (as he played there in CL Final). He can also play as DM, as he did when captaining Romania.
I think he meant he can't believe someone other than him picked Chivu.
I'm sure many have Chivu in their lists.
Ouch. Tbh, I just recently found out that he's eligible. He wasn't on early list.

I had Chivu on my list, but don't rate him incredibly highly.
I just don't rate him. He was like Inter's O'Shea. Put in LB or CB when needed. That is if he was fit at all. Not sure what his peak is. It's just hard to paint him well. I mostly just saw him in Europe where he wasn't special.
I'm just saying I need convincing. At least with players like Verthongen, Koscielny and Song I know what I've got.

Interesting how the quality of the pool compares to other decade-based drafts. The top-end looks good, but the depth is patchy when compared to the 50/60/70s drafts, even when throwing in a few 90s boys. It varies from position to position with probably the greatest dearth of quality in defence and the strongest area in the plethora of neat-and-tidy-ball-retaining attacking midfielders.
Chivu was quite a decent player and versatile. He also had a quality left foot.
@MJJ can you PM somebody some choices for your next pick? That way we can keep going around.
There's a bunch of good players that won't be picked because it will be hard to fit them. A lot of good strikers and attacking midfielders but not all teams will employ an attacking midfielder and most will only use one striker. It makes the good wingers all the more sought after.

Its kind of a waste since no one really appreciate goal keepers but is the best keeper by far so had to go for him.
Absolutely. 4th keeper being picked despite being better than all of them, albeit two of the picks before him are youngsters.

I would say that it was his Ajax days. He was very impressive there, as far as I recall - I don't recall that much, though, but he was bought for 18 millions after that. Come on, he was picked after Koscielny, and we are questioning this pick?
Koscielny isn't even the best CB at Arsenal, imo.

I remember watching him in probably the last pretty decent Ajax team back on Channel 5. I remember being pretty impressed with his overall ability. We should also rememebr he has 75 Romania caps and he was their captain.
Yeah, but a keeper from 90s or from a odd country would give you better options. With good German outfield players available, Neuer will lock up a crucial country slot. This was why NM took Courtois. Cracking keeper anyway.
Yup, I only really wanted courtois or neuer, with courtois being preferred for the exact same reason. Still from the germans, I only really want boateng, schweignstigerthingy and muller, so not that big of a loss.
